Is it my imagination or is the plastic piece next to the exhaust melted?

Mine has the same cover that is molded. Yes it does appear to be melted, but its not.

Sport Rider concluded the same thing. "Boy that engine runs HOT...look at the melted plastic next to the header pipe...Jeez.

Also, they found out about the solenoid and of course blamed the throttle cutout on faulty fueling...Wonderful.

Not melted. Mine looked like that when I picked it up with 9 miles on the OD.

For the record, it is NOT melted. Anybody can look and see that it is molded into that shape. Now the top is scorched on my bike, but certainly not melting.

I wonder why Buell selected a melted look for the piece?

You cant blame people for that interpretation Fresno. Most people would say it looks like heat damage vs an intentional shape. The welds on the muffler are another example of interpretations by the public that could from the manufactures intent

Not sure what the take is on throttle cutout. I don't think anyone should have to diagnose that but the manufacture. If someone guess wrong, then just take away the reason to guess.

Sorry I was away to answer questions. Doerman's right on about the kit. I'm running Catalyst upper and lower pieces/the cut-out street style version. You have to run both because they bolt together to make 1 big fairing. As of this pic I hadn't run it yet, so it's definitely not melted. Have 20 miles on it so far (one round trip to work and back) and nothing melted/distorted. Today I lined the fairing with some self-adhesive heat-shielding just in case. So now it's on for good. I'll keep you posted.

You cant blame people for that interpretation Fresno.

I am not crazy about the design either, and if you are looking at pictures, certainly you can make the mistake. But take two seconds to examine the piece and it doesn't take a rocket scientist or moto journalist to see that it is molded into that shape, not melted.

IMO, there is no excuse for the SPort Rider author to make such an accusation. He was simply trying to make his case and add drama to his article by pointing out the melting piece on the 1125r. He either outright lied, was too lazy to examine the piece or too stupid to realize that is wasn't melting. However you chalk it up--it's not right.

Well mine didn't come as pixelated from the factory. But yes that is how it came.

So are we done with this or does the conspiracy theory still live on.

Good God man there never was anybody on the grassy knoll, there isn't anybody there now, and there won't be anybody there in the future.

mine looks fine ....... i just put armor all on it. Sounds odd and I was worried it would burn but it looks fine at over 2000 miles.

The top of mine is scorched...but it doesn't bother me--it's a heat shield after all. Better it than my leg...although on some days I would swear my it's my leg that's burning.

I am more concerned about my scratched left pod after my total lameness this morning....I had some long laces on my left shoe that were just dangling as I pulled into work. I looked at them as I shut off the bike and thought "man, that could have be dangerous...", along with "don't get 'em stuck anywhere as you get off the the bike"...well I managed to forget the "put the kickstand down before you dismount" thought.

Needless to say, I was quite surprised as the bike continued to descend towards the asphalt. I tried to set the bike as gently as possible on the ground. End result--left pod on order.

Oh well....nothing I can do about it now. I guess I should be glad that the pods are relatively cheap compared to virtually every other manufacturers' plastics.

Well I looked up close at the picture on the Buell web site of the 1125cr and it looks almost just as "melted" as the ones I see here. I guess that is a factory look, but it is pretty cheap/ugly.

It REALLY isn't that big of a deal. Take it from someone that looks at it on a daily basis.

....never mind....not worth getting worked up over someone who hasn't ridden one for themselves & bases their opinions upon the written word of the mainstream moto journalists.

Suffice it to say, it doesn't bug me on mine.
