Sorry if this has been covered before, but I couldn't find a clear answer on it....

I had a 2000 Cyclone M2 whose clutch hand lever began to engage the gear about mid-position (that is, when I began to release the clutch hand lever, it would begin to engage the gear when it was about half-way out).

On a new 1125R (built in May-2008, all recalls and updates done) with about 200 miles on it, I notice that the gear doesn't begin to engage until the clutch hand lever is almost all the way out. Is this behavior normal for the 1125R or should I take this bike to the dealer for service?

My bike is the same way. It only has about 1inch or less from when the clutch starts to engage to completely engaged, and the lever is almost completely released before anything happens.

Change the number on the dial from 1 up to 5 and see where it engages. Pull the lever away from the bar, turn the dial, release the lever and test for it's action. The #1 position is the most extended from the bar. Also, it's a hydraulic clutch, so it will engage different than a cable type clutch, ie; more abruptly.

I think this might be intentional. I know a lot of the guys at the track use 2 fingers on the clutch like they do on the brakes. If the clutch doesn't engage far out then they can't work the clutch that way. It took me a little getting used to but now I don't even notice.

Thanks for the assurance of proper operation guys! I was just afraid that the clutch was mal-adjusted from the factory. Thanks again for your patient responses!

Not only do they disengage/ engage further out than your M2, the friction point is not as obvious to your fingers. The best part is the force is GREATLY reduced.

My ST1300 was my first Hyd clutch linkage. After 5 Buells and messing with the adjustments and cable lubrication, the hyd linkage is very nice and consistent!
