today was the first time i have let the new bike get down to the point where the low fuel light has come on. i thought to myself that it was no big deal to run around town and do some things for a bit before i had time to get gas. well that was a mistake. the bike had 146 miles on the trip meter. 14 of which were on the counter for the low fuel. i thought i would get some in just a bit. figured it was no problem since i have gone over 40 miles on reserve on my 9. well it was sitting there in the parking lot on its kickstand when i tried to fire it up. it was the first time it didnt start right away. i cranked it over a bit and it still wouldnt fire. i thought there is no way this thing is that low on fuel it wont run, but thought what the hell and sat it up straight. hit the button and it only to a couple cranks for the motor to fire. i put it back on the kickstand for a few seconds while i put my helmet and gloves on. aparently that was enough for it to die again! needless to say i drove it right across the street to put some more fuel in the tank. 4.8 gallons later it was ready to go again. guess im not going to be able to get to far after the light comes on on this bike... | ||

I was riding home from Austin,Texas to Killeen when my light came on. I made it 28 miles to the gas station and was just fine. My average mileage is like 34 and I have 1100 miles on my odo. | ||

Isn't the fuel pump on the 'high side' when on the side stand? I once had to put 5.1 gallons in mine with no problems other than when I tried to start it on the side stand, I noticed the fuel pump running until I tipped it up straight, then it pumped up and stopped. Started right up and rode 10 miles to the pump. Really glad the station wasn't ANY further!!! Don't know how much more I could have gone. JJ | ||

these numbers may change as the mileage on the bike increases. I was stranded on my XB12 after running out of fuel with 10 miles on the fuel gage and I was under 1k miles. By the time I hit 5k miles I was able to go 30+ miles. | ||

Funny you should ask... I ran out of gas yesterday and I had 26.8 miles on the reserve odo when it happened. I got 162 miles on the tank and put in 5.2 gallons. I ran out 100 yards away from a gas station. | ||

Man, that sucks when it happens like that. Done that once on my old FZR. Got over the bridge and rolled down to the other side. Had to push about 100 yards to the station. Sigh. | ||

Naah.. no suckage here. I was just really lucky in spite of being a dumb ass. 100 yds is a short distance to push. I noticed the low gas light coming on a while earlier. I just spaced it out and rode on. | ||

I was wondering what the reserve distance was too. So far I have gone about 15 miles into reserve. I guess I am just spoiled. I really hate not having a fuel gage. I guess pretty soon I will be doing something about it. I am also kind of hating the fact that I'm not getting between 200 and 225 miles per tank. I am sure after a while I will get used to it and then it won`t bother me so much. I guess 30mpg / 150ish mpt(tank) isn`t bad though. | ||

I got to admit I am really surprised at the low gas mileage numbers being talked about with this engine. 30mpg. That is car like on a super light bike that has some nifty aerodynamic qualities. For some comparison a VFR get about 35 to 40 with a heavy hand. The new concours group is saying 35 as well on a 650 lb bike. Hayabusa owners regularly claim 35+ mpg. What am I missing here??? | ||

After owning five XB Buells I think there must be a variable from bike to bike. I had one bike run out of fuel after 10 miles on reserve and one that was still going at 30 miles. None of the bikes delivered less than 40 mpg. The Ulysses never less than 50 and on a solid highway run would do 60 mpg. I will own another one of those too some day. | ||

The biggest "variable" is the rider. I think that my "poor" fuel economy is due to the fact that I ride the snot out of it every time I ride it. In other words I`m having some serious fun with it. | ||

yes, i realize the fuel pump on the 1125's is on the high side when the bike is on the kick stand instead of the low side like the xb's. that was got me to think about tipping it to the right a bit to see if it would fire since i did know the fuel light was on. i was just surprised that it was doing that with only 14 miles on the low fuel trip! i do figure when riding i could make it a ways farther, just wondered about how much farther. | ||

I have learned in my miles on a motorcycle that the decrease in MPG is directly related to the increase in Smiles per Mile. |
