I got this PM regarding my remarks in the thread "Help! bike won't start":

You have received a private message from the following discussion board user: Blake

--------------------------------

"There is no excuse for a brand new motorcycle that will not start.

I am reminded of the starting drills that one had to use to fire up British singles & twins 40 years ago!"

----------------------------------

If the above reflects is the type of commentary that you are intending to contribute to BadWeB, then I'd ask that you rethink your participation on the site.

I hope you can see where I am coming from. We appreciate all constructive contributions, negative or positive in nature, with constructive being the operative word. Posts that are naysaying, antagonistic and unhelpful nature are entirely unwelcome.

Thanks,

Blake

Why are you sharing this with the rest of us Dave? Seems like an issue between you and Blake. BadWeB is a private board, he is the "owner" of it and as such, set the rules.

I wonder why they call a private message PRIVATE?

Ah more politics and heavy handed tactics.

There needs to be a realization that the deny and dismiss approach is counter productive.

At this point it's obvious there is some degree of reoccurring issue with the charging systems. How reoccurring and weather it's a quality issue or a design issue is unknown. It should be obvious at this point that continuing to deny the problem is only making it worse.

I ask the powers that be "What's the cost of doing nothing"? This is the side of the equation in these situations that is often over looked.

"Your either part of the problem or your part of the solution". Right now it seems there a perception delusion for many as to which they are contributing to.

This problem certainly well not go away as long as it remains unaddressed. In fact it will most certainly get worse.

Tell me about the word "obvious". What, and I'm serious, because I also think there is reason for concern. But, I'm not tuned in enough to know about the "obvious" component.

Where are you getting your data?

See, I have been reading all these posts about charging systems... bike failures... etc. etc. and the word "obvious" would give me the impression that "ALL" new 1125r's would have the problem. Fact is, I have only 2 small problems w/ my bike neither of which results in my not being able to ride it. (little rust already on exhaust/chip in mirror)... I DO have a problem keeping the front tire down... and DO have a problem keeping the S#*T eating grin off my face... THANK YOU Buell for a gorgeous bike

Anybody have a COUNT of the number of people (as in discrete bikes) that have had charging problems?

It would be helpful if we knew that number. It's easy to look at hundreds of posts and loose sight of the fact that it may represent 4 bikes.

I do not know what the numbers are. I know there have been hundreds of posts.

It would also be helpful to append each one with:

Have you made electrical modifications to the motorcycle? Yes____ No_____

If so, how many modifications?_______

Again. . . I don't know but seem to think the number of folks on badweb is less than 10. Anyone recall?

I think that's close, Court.

I've tried to keep track, and it seems like 1-3 instances of each, of 5 or 6 "root causes".

I recall:
bad battery - 2
Low Charge out of box - several
Bad stator - 1 maybe 2
Bad VR - 2 or 3
Loose grounds - several

Lots of "onesy-twosies", not a lot total tho.

I'll probly get flamed, but Kudos to Blake for sending you that PM.

We all get "emotionally" attached to these boards, etc., etc., blah, blah, but here are the known FACTS:
1) This is Blake's "house"
2) He doesn't "censor" constructive criticism and open dialog. He asks politely, as evidenced by that PM, that instead of harping/whining/crying about the sky falling that we be CONSTRUCTIVE when discussing "issues" that may or may not be an actual ISSUE with Buell's product.
3) Court & others have been trying to help isolate remotely on FACTS that they can use to help determine CAUSE. That’s a hard freakin job without the piece of machinery in front of you. And it doesn’t get ANY easier when folks keep changing things around before any baseline testing/isolation can be done.

So, having said all of the above, we ALL agreed to “Da Rulez” when we signed up here. Have some respect for everyone else, don’t get so emotional over written words, and lets all try to work TOGETHER instead of pi$$in in each other’s cheerios, ok?

p.s. My 1125R was 'sposed 2 ship to my dealer on the 25th. It's still @ the factory on the line. I WANT MY BIKE!!!!!

So say something good and that's OK. Say something bad and thats OK also as long as it's not that bad? My guess, and only a guess, is that there is more to this story.

I didn't think the post was bad, but I'm not the judge and it's not my website. Actually the starting drill thing made me laugh.

Darn, my 25r has to be the problem child that breaks the Camel's back! I start it every day (for the last 11 days), I ride it 100 miles (round trip) to/ from work, play with it on weekends and evenings and then have to wipe that SH!T-EAT'N grin off my face every time I stop!

The upside to the grin part is my chubby checks keep my helmet from flying off my head.

900+ miles and counting, farkels away!!!!!!

Neil S.

Oh yeah, what's my problem????? My Honda ST1300 is getting so lonely that she cracked her radiator to get some attention. Poor girl after 80,000+ miles and 4 years of dedication, she gets up staged by the new kid on the block. Don't worry Indigo, there is still a very warm place in my heart for you when Debra I ride together. You still are my LD 2 up Sport-Touring machine!

Let me "clarify" a little more for everyone, based on MY "beliefs" (YMMV) in relation to this board and the 1125R specifically:

“We” (the ‘tribe’) “think” there have been ~11 “issues” that we know of based on the input given here on BadWeb. Zack was good enough to attempt to keep track and grouped them as follows:
-Bad battery - 2
-Low Charge out of box - several
-Bad stator - 1 maybe 2
-Bad VR - 2 or 3
-Loose grounds – several

Folks on here that we all rely on for various & sundry reasons have been attempting to help when & where they can. Their efforts have been hampered by distance and conflicting/confusing information & ever changing parameters.

I can understand “venting”, but PLEASE, if you are going to vent, on a written medium, be CLEAR that you are venting. If you are asking/looking for help, then attempt to be CONSTRUCTIVE in helping those you are asking to help you.

CinCHouse of BadWeb asked a member, PRIVATELY, to consider what they had posted. Said member then publicly posted a Private Message from CinCHouse of BadWeb. Do you REALLY expect sympathy/support when you take actions like this?

BadWeb is NOT an “official’ Buell sponsored site/organization/business/entity. If you have a problem with your bike and are peeved, take it out on BMC and work WITH them to help resolve the problem. Don’t drop your drawers in public & show your @$$ to a group of enthusiasts and expect us to “rally to your cause”.

IMHO, you sir owe an apology to Blake.

‘Nuff said, I’m done.

There's 1000's of posts all over this board about XB problems. Issues directly related to the factory...bearings, oil gears, belts, loose nuts and bolts...etc. I've also read hundreds of posts alot worse that this about XB issues.

Why is the 1125r an exception? Because its new?

I love helping Buell owners and do so whenever I can. But I confess that lately I've been reduced to just skimming, shaking my head and going back to what I was doing.

I'm sure I've missed some folks who need/warrant/deserve help.

Thanks to those who can understand or at lease accept my point of view. I sure appreciate your support, more than you can imagine. Thank you!

I cannot read every post, not even close, probably only about ten percent is all I am able to cover on average, so I may miss a lot of similar type "commentary."

Here's the deal. We didn't create BadWeB for that kind of chatter. We created it for folks to share constructive information concerning Buell motorcycles and related events and stuff. If you aren't here for that, then you shouldn't be here.

If you are here to belittle and denigrate Buell motorcycles, you shouldn't be here.

It's that simple.

Bogus Dave,

You've been on the radar for your useless little hear-yourself-talk kind of comments for some time now.

Here's a summary of some of your contributions to BadWeB:

This forum bans members who post "unhelpful commentary"? That policy should thin out the ranks in short order.

If free and open discussion on this forum is limited (censorship by administrators), it's a negative for every Buell owner.

Wow, this pretty much kills an 1125R purchase for me. ... A belt failure would be devastating on a Sunday ride........perhaps a hundred miles from home.

I like the concept of a belt drive, but it seems that Buell has a history of belt failures. I sincerely hope that this belt failure at 2100 miles on a new 1125 will not be the weak link in the Buell chain.

I do not recall any issues with chain failure on the Bandit, FZ-1, ZX12R, SV1000, or ZX-10R forums.

I want to believe in the "infant care" program that Harley-Davidson Buell CLAIMS they have. Based on your experience, it seems like it is just advertising propaganda.

Those of us who have experienced the high quality and reliability of Japanese motorcycles may have to pass on the new 1125 Buell.

The Japanese make a lot of motorcycle for the money and they are reliable.

There is no excuse for a brand new motorcycle that will not start. I am reminded of the starting drills that one had to use to fire up British singles & twins 40 years ago!

What is being done to alleviate the excessive footpeg heat mentioned by many 1125R riders on the pre-production bikes?

Regarding the excessive heat on the right boot, I don't believe we've heard the proposed solution from Anonymous.

I do Sunday morning group rides: experienced riders, the best roads, dress code. Email me if you are interested.

Maybe BMC will issue the 1125R with high tech insulated boots.

Byan (Spectrum):

"Ah more politics and heavy handed tactics."

: ? You totally lost me with that insulting accusation. Some folks prefer to always assume the worst possible intentions in others. That is an unfortunate way to approach people.

We may have the good fortune of meeting in person some day. I probably won't recall this insulting dialogue or who was involved, but you may, and it will color our meeting, negatively, which is unfortunate.

"There needs to be a realization that the deny and dismiss approach is counter productive. "

I agree. If you think that is what is happening on BadWeB then you may start your own forum and take whatever approach you like.

The truth is that at BadWeB we prefer to deal in factual information. We try to avoid rumor-mongering, wild assumption and unsubstantiated generalization; that kind of commentary is entirely unhelpful and in fact misleading and potentially harmful.

The truth is that no custodian or valued contributor here has ever denied or dismissed any factual information or sought to do anything but aid and assist any Buell motorcycle owner who seeks information or assistance here. If you can show otherwise, I'd like to see the evidence on account of I need to have words with whoever is doing so.

No worries, you can shake yer head at my new bike when it finally gets here! lol

Until then, for those of the "uspoken majority" thank you for all of the help you have given.

Blake,

If no one else will say it, I will, "Thank You" for give us Buell owners who "may" be internet "sophisticated" a place to visit.

As for the "problems":
-My deposit is in
-I've seen ~11 bikes worth of issues on here
-We ALL need to get a life

Censorship sucks.

Sharing a private message sucks.

If e let the forum develop naturally I think it would find its true level of fairness and honesty. It seems as we develop two extremes as some areas that are so rose colored that some try to balance with a heavy hand or word.

Yes these pages are privately owned, so are most things in life. The decision to keep it a forum vs a blog is Blakes call. I Vote for a Buell Forum vs a blog of worship as there is so little information on the web we need this place, but it must also be open and honest to be of the most value. Keep in mind I'm a huge Buell fan. I don;'t want to hear negative things about the only American Sport Bike manufacture so let the products speak for itself through the posters. No drive to improve and get better will destroy a company. Nothing improves without discussion. Look at the American automobile manufactures troubles. I don't like it one bit.

WOW!

First off Blake, THANK YOU for this site. I have been a member for a while. I love this site. I have many close friends that have met through this site. It has been a source of information, education, and at times like this, entertainment.

Members of this site have saved me thousands of dollars and hundreds of hours of "trial and error" mechanics. I have gotten real, first hand reviews of new products and services from people that ride the kinds of bikes I ride and are (for the most part, anyway) of a similar mindset as me.

The sponsors have sold me products at prices often better than I could source on my own - and almost always had exactly what I wanted/needed in stock.

Oh - and I was one of those posting a problem about my charging system. I captured the relevant data and took it immediately to my dealer. My dealer was able to diagnose the problem in less than 30 minutes as a faulty VR.

I also posted about not being able to go into setup mode after the new VR was installed. I was supported by the good folks here that a "reset" was in order (and no - my dealer did not know about that one).

So whether it is 1000's of charging issues, or (and far more likely) 2 or 3, I am one of them and my problem is fixed 100% to my satisfaction.

Oh - and I do my very best to give back - share what I have learned (usually with a skinned knuckle or two).

Blake - this site is awesome. Pishaw to those that want to use this as a forum to be a jerk. The rules are pretty simple here - and if they can't be abided by - please, do those of us that truly love this site a favor and kick-em out.

Dave_bogue, would you welcome yourself into another man's home, and then complain to that man's other guests about the treatment you've receiving from our mutual host? If the host has broken the law, then surely, you have a case. But short of that, what do you expect of us, Blake's other guests? If you're looking for advice, then I'd say, if you feel wronged here, the wisest thing to do would be to withdraw. It seems to me the issue rests at this point on a very simple point of etiquette.

TAKE HIS BRAIN! "Hitch Hikers Guide to the Galaxy"

I really like this site. Like other's have said it's very useful.

Once in while, people get a little aggravated and that's normal. But you read peoples posts that are written just to Dig, just poke or provoke. It gets in the way. It's annoying. It frequently distracts from the subject at hand. They build up as you see someone doing it over and over on different subjects. Some don't even have Buells. What are they doing here? I couldn't be bothered to be over on some jap car site dogg'in their products. I don't have one. I couldn't be bothered. I guess I don't understand the need, or the motivation for such a thing.

I think some get some great felling sitting with their weapon (their computer) all alone. The leave some little stinging comment and sit back and saying to themselves.."That'll get em!". Why? Get who?

Call me incorrect or call me late for dinner but does anyone else see that there is more of this going on in the 1125R site? Does this bike bring out something in a few of us. Is it a new client base?

Thanks Blake and company for trying to keep things positive and constructive. Keep smiling everyone. Thanks for helping me with the problems that I've had, and reading about the good times I've had as well in these long winded posts of mine.

I think you hit it Bearly. I never once uttered anything remotely negative about Buell until the bike I waited so long for was a bit more controversial in styling then anticipated.

It could be deliberate as they have a great engine they needed something else for people to talk about, lol.

I know I my let my emotion get to me on this one as I really really really wanted to own what was to be the first modern engined Buell.

The point, made over and over again, is this site is for Buell enthusiasts.
We come here to:
a) ask questions for help or information
b) post answers, sometimes guesses, sometimes known facts.
c) pass on interesting, cool, funny whatever, tales about our bikes.

Complaints go to the dealer, then Buell CS.

Major faux pas Dave.

I had stopped visiting BadWeb and occasionally posting precisely because it seemed the discourse had devolved into uninformed and inflammatory sniping from a select group of doggydoo-disturbers. In a moment of nostalgia, I drop by and discover......well, discover that it's still going on.

I vote for Blake and whatever he deems necessary to control this stuff. If anything, it appears to me he is overly reluctant to quash unhelpful or self-serving bashers. It has nothing to do with restricting 'free speach' [what horse-hooey], but rather insisting on good manners. Y'know, like your mother should have taught you.

"Posts that are naysaying...."

So in otherwords don't say anything negative about Buell?

Sharing compalints with other Buell owners on this board (vs. sending the factory an email) helps find reocuuring problems and allows others to see how problems were solved by other owners.

If people don't want to read anything negative...don't read it.

I don't agree with sharing PM's, but he's right..there is no excuse for a brand new 12k machine not starting. I see nothing wrong with making that statement on message board for Buell owners. It's not off topic, its not using profain language..it's not even argumentative.

There's more posts on this thread that are argumentative than his original one!
