Hi everybody! my name is Luis and I live in El Paso, TX. I recently traded in my firebolt (XB12R) for a brand spanking new 1125r. Very happy with the switch. Been looking for accessories for the new bike and found this great forum. After reading several posts for weeks now, decided to join in! I'm looking forward to contribute and share experiences with you guys and please excuse my english if sometimes I mess up. Still working on it. Thanks.

Hi luisemilio how many miles have you ridden the bike?

I am asking because I believe in changing the oil allot during break in,

I used regular Castrol 20/50 in my bike and changed it at 50, 200, 400, 800, and at 1200 when I switched to synthetic and now have 1600 miles on my bike and will do my next one at 2000 miles and consider it broken in at that point,

there are many ways people say to break in the motor and I will not confuse you with all the different ways but believe in changing the oil allot as the motor breaks in,

I will be changing my oil at every 2000 miles.

I wish you the best with you new bike and there are allot of good guys here that will help with any questions that you may have,

you can see my bike at baggermike farkels,

I am turning it into a sport tourer and have allot in plans for it and will be adding more photo's next month,

enjoy and ride safe the bike is awesome.

Mike

thanks for the welcome! I have around 650 miles on it and I'm waiting on the dealer to have the parts ready for the first service. it seems they don't have anything for this bike, i guess is still to new to them. Also it might be that El Paso TX is no a big town and there are not enough 1125r owners yet to stock parts for it.
How much did you guys paid for the first service or did you did it your self? thanks!!

I did my first service and if you look in the back of the owners manual you will see what to do and just check everything off after checking them,

also there are two drain plugs.

Hi Luis,

My name is Toby Trujillo and I am from El Paso as well but I am currently in Augusta, Ga. You just have to get Barnett on board and have them stock parts. When I purchased mine on February 14 with a Vin# of 0214 I found this forum and read a tip about informing the service department to start ordering my service parts early so they will be in by the time I needed the service. Just talk to Javier in service he take care of you.

Thanks Toby!! great advise. I'll do that. Today I got the oil filter and I will change the oil my self. 199.00 for an oil change and a general check up seems to be too much. What kind of oil do you guys use on your 1125r? thank you.

great to see an El Paso rider on here. I'm being stationed out there in May. I pick up my 1125R May 23. Maybe I'll see you on the transmountain.

Transmountain : ) That brings back some memories. I used to live just off of George Dieter. Got caught exceeding the fun quota a few times going across Transmountain and walked away from the biggest bike crash in my life at the corner of Montana and Lee Trevino. Good times : )

Wow, didn't think I would find somebody that knew El Paso, let alone 2, being such a small town. I know I'm changing the subject here but what do you guys use to jack (lift) your bike? And what would be the jack points on this bike?
I bought an universal motorcycle lift at checker auto parts
(60.00) but I don't feel safe using it because of the shape of the muffler.

Luis:

In terms of service, read and follow the instructions in your owners manual and you will be fine. Going beyond that may provide peace of mind, but little more.

Be aware that the oil level checking procedure has changed and that Buell (why is yet to be determined) had not been corrected on the owners manual on Buell.com. You dealer has access to the proper procedure via hdnet.

All service items are readily available and anything your dealer orders for an 1125R should be delivered in a matter of days.

Welcome aboard.

luis your muffler is your jackpoint...there should be marks on the underside....the easiest thing to do is get a couple of 2x4's and cut them in the shape of your muffler and attach it to your lift.

What kind of oil do you guys use on your 1125r?

Luis welcome to the board and congrats on the new ride. By the way, the recommended oil according to the service manual is HD Syn3 20-50. Buell recommends synthetic but any SG and JASO MA rated oil in the proper viscosity range should do. See page 99-100 of the owners manual. I'm using Amsoil 20-50 motorcycle oil.

Luis, El Paso is not a small town but a large city. Its one of the largest in Texas. There is some nice riding areas you just have to find them. Take care when riding transmountain as sometimes there is gravel and dirt on the road. Since March and April are upon you remember on windy day to stay in lower gear in the power band of the bike which starts at about 3300 rpm. That will keep you from wobbling to much, but the best rpm would be about 4000 to 4500 rpm. You might want to do the pecan grove trail out in by Anthony. Also the roads from Ruidoso to Capitain is a nice ride too. As for service I purchased my bike with the Army Gas and Go. I only pay for tires and brakes for the next 4 years. Its an extended service warranty about an additional $1,800 but worth it in the long run when counting on the service visits. And it comes with towing that you call the nearest H-D or Buell Dealership and they pick you and your bike up. I had my service done Saturday and they put Synthetic as that is what Buell recommends since the next oil change is quite a ways away after the initial 620 mile change. I should be in El Paso for a few weeks in August maybe we'll go ride together. Happy riding and be safe as I know the people in EL Paso concentrate on their phones and anything bigger than their SUVs or minivans. Happy motoring.

Thank you Tijuanajack. I guess I consider El Paso small compared to larger cities like Dallas, San Antonio etc. But your are right, is not a little town. Ruidoso and Capitan would be great for riding and as soon as the weather allows it, I'll probably take the bike for a quick trip over there. Today I performed the first oil change. The bike had 720 miles on it because I was waiting on the oil filter and it is hard just to park it and wait. Hope it does not affect it in the long run. I used AMSoil 20w50. It took more than 3 quarts of oil to take it to the right mark on the dipstick. See you around in August and I take your invitation. Thanks you guys you are very helpful.

Tijuanajack

Whats the Army gas and go? I'm buying my bike through exchange new car sales and I'm getting the buell extended warranty. I'm thinking it's not the same as the gas and go. Being I still have time to change my deal a bit, the gas and go may be a better way to go.

Check with the dealer or it may be a Harley-Davidson Credit deal. I'll check with my dealer hear in Augusta. On Tuesday as they are closed on Mondays.

Luis - The bike should only take 3 quarts during an oil change. There in an error in the oil check procedures as documented in the owners manual. It should be checked up-right instead of on the sidestand. See this thread for the correct procedure:

on a different note. are you on of those guys with a 25 in front of their job title? I happen to be one of those guys.

"It took more than 3 quarts of oil to take it to the right mark on the dipstick."

Probably because you checked the oil level with the bike on the side stand, which is not the correct method.

Please see the procedure as outlined here.

Welcome to BadWeB. : )

I did use the correct procedure and still is short 1/2 quart (just a guess). When draining the engine, I tilted the bike as much as possible, first the left side then the right side. Also replaced the filter. After pouring the oil, started the bike and waited until temperature was around 172f. Then I shut it off, waited 3 min. and checked the level while someone else was holding the bike straight. The oil barely touched the tip of the dipstick. To make things worst, I only purchased 3 quarts of AMSoil and went to the parts store to get another one and they run out of it! Called everybody in town and no one has it. So now I have to wait until they (Barnett Harley Davidson) get more (probably a week or more) The other option is to drain it again and switch to screaming eagle oil. I was told you are not supposed to mix them.

If you did in fact put only 3 quarts in, then it should be fine. My guess is your not getting it warmed up enough or holding it upright long enough. In other words the Oil has to be hot and it takes a while for the oil to level out on the side where the dip stick is.

1. 10 minute ride.
2. Hold upright and let idle for 3 minutes.
3. Hold upright for 3 more minutes (engine shut off).
4. Check Oil while holding upright.

Three quarts on mine with a warm engine, brings the level up to between "Max" and "Overfill" lines on the dip stick.

If I don't follow these four steps exactly. Mine reads just barely touching the stick also.

Every time I see the 16 minute oil level check it makes me laugh. It just puts a picture in my head of a guy with a stopwatch making sure his bike is exactly upright.

Nothing to do with you personally Spectrum. I know it's the procedure. I do thank you for posting it because I was having a bad day and it made me laugh. Hopefully it helped him.

Yes, the oil also lubes the tranny, so if you didn't follow the instructions and ride the bike in gear for ten miles, then you didn't, well, follow the instructions.

So now your engine is overfilled with oil. :/

Just do a cold check.
Wait at least 4 hours after running the bike.
Stand it up straight for a minute.
Check the oil, keeping the bike up.
It should show on the stick, but lower than the HOT level.

If you add any oil, do a hot check.

That info is from the Feb Svc manual release.

Cant they just issue a new dip stick that would measure hot and cold marks with the bike on the side? Do not expect people to check the oil level if it becomes and event.

I haven't poured any more oil after the 3 quarts. Is just that I didn't feel safe riding the bike for 10min when I checked the oil and it was barely touching the dipstick. So I guess I didn't overfill it. The oil light did come on for like 5 or 6 seconds after I turned it on (they felt like 30 seconds . Any way I guess I'll try the procedure again but this time I will ride it for 10 minutes, wait another 3 min. while idling, shut it off, wait another 3 min. while keeping it straight and then check the level.

Luis, as I posted in the "oil check procedure" thread with exactly 3 measured quarts of oil cold will read just at the very bottom of the dipstick. With the engine hot after a nice ride of one hour it read about midway in the "proper zone". This was done both on stands and vertical. Overfilling is the worst thing for these new bikes and a fond "greetings" my friend. Bob
