I'm going to let my dealer figure out what my trouble codes are sense I don't have a manual yet and the bike is so new. Besides other than the two times the light came on the bike runs great. They could be anything.
If I understand page 120 of the owners manual right the voltage regulator will not hold the system voltage steady anyway but raise or lower the voltage according to the battery's charging needs. If so then that makes what I found with my meter reasonable.
I'm not all that worried about it yet.

LOL, it's manual, not manuel! I can't believe you guys didn't hammer me for that one.

Latest update on the factory troubleshooters. They pulled codes and diagnostic pages from both bikes, and have spent the last two days analyzing same. My dealer says that they are shipping parts to arrive ahead of them, and will be back in Pensacola on Thursday. They did not know what parts, or what diagnosis has been made. I'll post more when I know more.

...Although I've had no problem like this thread addresses...I offer this, while wiring in some additional loads tonight on my 1125, I checked the battery screw connections and the chassis grounds...all were needing a good half a turn to be considered mechanically right. No problems though in 1100 miles and three plus weeks and I do not mean at all to rub that in! Production #524

I hope this gets sorted out soon...

Mine has been in the shop for 1 week and they can't tell me a damn thing. They claim that Buell Tech Services hasn't got back to them due to a snow storm which basically shut everything down... Not sure if I believe that.

Anyway, I'll keep an eye on this thread and chip in any info I receive that might be helpful.

Add me to the list of no problems. I had the original battery die after I let the bike sit for a week. Replaced it, and haven't had an issue since. I've even let the bike sit for a week, came out and fired right up.

Buellgator did Buell give you a new battery or did you just buy one? if you bought one which make and size did you buy, also I would check your voltage regulator it can harm the battery and that maybe why you had a bad battery, I also think my battery is bad and have a new battery to try when the bike get back from the shop and will get them to give me a new battery if I see a differences in batteries. I am thinking of getting an Odyssey battery for the bike anyway a little larger but I can get it to fit and a 2 or 3 year warranty and they last allot longer like 8 years or more and need a special charger. mike

Here is my history thus far with the battery...

Jan 8. - Took delivery, rode about 50 miles, no problems.

Jan 12 - Battery dead. Jump started and rode another 50 miles. Purchased battery tender and put it on.

Jan 20 - Rode 50 miles no problems. Did not put battery tender back on.

Feb 12 - Checked on bike, did not ride. After sitting for 3 weeks, I put it into diag. mode but did not start it. Diag mode reports 11.7 volts. Put battery tender back on.

There has been no riding between these dates. Is 11.7 volts low with bike in on position not running?

yes but you should buy a volt meter at wallmart and test the battery at the post, also charge the battery up and disconnect the cables and let it sit and see if the battery discharges, there is info on how much the battery discharges with out being hooked up to anything. Mike

Andella, after sitting 3 weeks, 11.7 isn't that bad.
Try Diagnostic Mode in park, then the headlight isn't on and you get a tad below open circuit voltage.
When you run DM from the "ON" position, the lo-beams will add a 5-6 Amp load, dropping the voltage a bit.

At 11.7 in "run" you'll probably see 12.2-12.4 open ckt in "park".
Pop the Tender on and she should go green in 30-60 minutes.

Warranty covered the battery, so I am sticking with those for now. I believe the bike had less than 600 miles on it when I replaced the battery, it now has 1400 on it with no problems.

Thanks, I have been keeping the bike at the in-laws since I don't have a garage. The weather has been pretty lousy for the past few weeks and I haven't even thought about looking into it seriously. I checked in on it yesterday out of curiosity if the battery held the charge since I took it off the battery tender and it was 10-20 degrees out mon-tues. I guess I may not be in bad shape, will have to wait and see.

I guess I must be one of the lucky ones. Mine has been sitting for 3 weeks (snow on the ground this whole time : ( ) Checked voltage today, still at 12.7, haven't touched it the whole time, still on the original battery.

How long should a battery tender take to charge a fully discharged battery? I have had it on for about 26 hours and all get is weak running lamp lights and no ODIS at all. IS my battery toast?

Fresno
According to the owners book it takes 4 to 5 hours to fully charge the battery with a 3 amp charger. A battery tender puts out somewhat less than that but 26 hours should have done it. Did you disconnect the battery though? Tenders are not intended to "charge" dead batteries. One, the bike's systems still has a small current draw when "off" which might be hard for the tender to overcome with such a low battery and two, the problem might not be just the battery but in the bike too and still present even with the key "off".

I got to play with DM mode for the first time tonite. Now that is nice! Had to hunt down how to do it from past posts and found it in one of Zac's, so thank you Zac.

There is about a .7v difference between park and on in the ODIS display on my bike. And with a meter across the battery also, however the meter was always .2v higher than ODIS.

Talk about a lot of information! Easy to see the codes too. Mine were fuel pressure and front O2 sensor. Real time monitoring of their states! Just too cool.

And it seems that the DDFI 3 has a MAP sensor! Didn't know that. Interesting.

Fresnobuell, after a three week vacation trip one time, my 2002 M2 battery (a little bigger then the 1125's) went to about 4 volts. It took about three full days on my battery tender to bring it to 12.7v. I made a mistake by pulling the garage breaker shutting down my tender, opps! I did not want to use my 10 amp charger and had time before the next ride. Its the original battery from HD, now six years old, and still holding strong. Stays on tender when not riding. Bob

What if I just jumped it and rode, then put it on the tender until Buell figures out the issue? This is going on 2.5 days now and im getting a little antsy to ride!

Go ahead and jump it and have some fun................ The lights will flicker a bit until the battery gets a little charge in it. Don't stall.... That's no fun either. Don't shut the engine off until your back home.

Well, the team has finished with my bike. They replaced the stator. Sounds pretty simple, but they spent a lot of time documenting the performance before and after, running the bike on a dyno so that charging and batttery-condition traces could be run over extended periods at different rpm settings. Both stators performed well when cold, holding 14 volts from idle to high rpm, but the original stator would hold barely 12.5 volts once the engine was hot - at any rpm. The new stator drops off in voltage as the engine heats up also, but will hold better than 13.5 volts when hot. This is sufficient for now, but I don't think that they are yet finished. I know they have carried a lot of data home with them - the laptop and diagnostic gear attached to my bike was quite impressive. I told them that I suspected that a stator re-design was in our future, but they were not willing to confirm that - but I know that they were not content with the 'near normal' condition that their efforts had brought to my bike. As things stand now, initial charge rates following engine start are quite good, but charging margin is reduced when warm. Expect a fix for this.

I dropped my bike off at the dealer yesterday. Got lots of attention. I had the general manager, service manager, some techs and the wash boy hovering around me as I explained my problems. It is the first 1125 to come back to them to be worked on and I left with my fingers crossed.
I'm impressed with my tech, my dealer and the support staff back at Buell.
I had a phone call from the tech when I got home from work today. The guy spent 30 minutes explaining in detail what's going on.
The front O2 fault never recurred for either of us and won't be replaced for now as the sensor checks out fine.
My bike threw the pressure fault on me the one and only time I had to hit the starter twice to get it to start. Apparently it was a bit more reluctant on him during one of his test rides and threw the same code. But the pressure tests out fine.
This tech spent all day tearing into my bike, calling Buell tech, putting it together, test ride and then repeat. He went to the point of chasing all the ground connections involved to make sure they are tight. Nothing to fix here for now either.
Sounded like he enjoyed the challenge. Almost no tech info on the bike so there was a lot of phone and fax time. Only one of their two Digital Techs would talk to the bike. The bike cleared the trouble code he caused on it's own. He read it on ODIS but it cleared before he could put the DT on it. That's interesting.
I knew my bike had too much oil. He received B070 today, did an early oil change and inspected the filter and throttle bodies for oil or other problems.
None... except there was a part missing from the rear throttle body. Some sort of small "clip" that when missing could make the bike hard to start! Now on order. When I know more I'll post it. It'll be awhile for the part. He wants me to call him Tuesday eve for an update as he's not done looking at things.
Said it took him half an hour to get a good oil check. LOL.
Over a time span of two weeks to two months the dealers are supposed to get their tech manuals, new software for the DTs and the ability to reflash the 1125 ecm.
Oh yes, it is normal for the fuel pump to keep cycling for up to a half hour after turning off the key to keep from vapor locking on short stops.
Never touch the throttle when starting...
Except that if the bike gets hard to start you...
Turn off the key
Hold open the throttle wide.
Turn on and off the key a few times without hitting the starter.
Then try to start the bike in the normal manner.

Got mine back today.

They changed the oil (again) to correct the level. Said it was very much over-full, but said he didn't expect it to cause any problems.

At Buell tech services request they let it sit for 2 days to measure the rate of discharge. Afterward they replaced the battery.

I'd be the first to raise hell, because Anony told me it was unnecessary to use a MAP and that DDFI was flawless without it (despite my experiences to the contrary).

There was an elegant simplicity to the DDFI on my XB. It did its job, and was easy to understand. I liked the manual setting of timing and idle - as a connection to the past. The AFV learning function worked well with my bike, but was definitely a limitation to the system in mountainous areas. (MAP and density altitude sensors are both included in DDFI III.) The constant TPS resets were a pain. Bottom line...DDFI has progressed from I through III. Newer bikes, better systems - the normal progression of things. I'm really looking forward to studying how the new system works, in detail. The Buell techs confirmed for me that it is pretty much a completely closed loop system, other than at WOT. I am curious how adaptive that makes it for minor changes to intake and exhaust - should allow for automatic adjustments of Fuel-Air, as long as O2 sensors are retained. It's going to be cool learning the secrets of this bike.

Good luck. In the past Buell has refused to provide any really useful info on DDFI, which is what is so frustrating with DDFI2.
They act like someone would actually want to copy it and letting us know the basics of when it updates would give away some top secret algorithm.
