I thought that buying a BUELL would get me a HOG membership, since BRAG is no more, but my dealer told me that it is not the case.

Can anyone comment on this?

I am wondering because a HOG or BRAG membership represent 10% off on my insurance.

Nope. No more BRAG, and no HOG unless you buy into it. I've never heard of a membership in either organization giving you an insurance discount. By that token, joining the AMA should get you a discount.

I got a discount some years back from HOG membership.
I bought lifetime HOG back when they started for 300 bucks.
Money well spent.

I bought a used Harley last year from a local dealership, they included a 1-year H.O.G. membership. Talk to your dealership.

Oh, OH, OH, ME, ME, count me in!!!!! NOT!

But the benefits are worth the $'s Most H-D shops will even give 10% discount for HOG members. The roadside assistance is probably the biggest benefit.

We used to terrorize (at least from the H-D riders view) the rides when I lived in EVV. We just could not ride along at posted speed limits, much less below the corner posted limits. We would start off with the group and then about 10 mins we would blast by at XXX digits.

Brew City Thunderbikes, formerly Brew City BRAG is an official part of the largest HOG group in the world. They've been a GREAT bunch to deal with. I've joked with many of 'em in respects to us looking like power rangers, and them looking like a Village People reunion.

And they cover our asses, and the dealership when it comes to official and unofficial organized rides.

HOG is about promoting the H-D lifestyle... A totally different lifestyle from Buell riders. I was a member when I purchased my V-Rod. I let it expire.

Ride to Live - Live to Ride?
More like Ride to Shop - Shop to Ride; Ride to Drink; Ride to Gamble...etc.

Buell Riders actually have fun riding their bikes.

MSF course completion usually gets you about 10% off of insurance. The course for experienced riders is only about 5 hours long.

I was a member for 6 years and let it expire a few years back.

Now I got a free year with my 1125r purchase.

I wonder if I get another 1st year patch or a 7th year?

Oh well who cares at least I can get my swell little pin at all the big events / races again.

I don`t remember the discounts for national HOG, I thought it was for local. Anyway I kinda think that my AMA membership is more valuable. I guess thats why I never let mine or both my boys` expire.

Steve Mackay-thanks for the plug! To Dalton_gang and Garrett2: I would check with your dealers again about the HOG membership. Unless the dealership was paying for the membership directly, they were not included with the bike purchase. That is until a week ago when I arranged to have the Motor Company co-op the first year with the dealerships. This program will not be widely publicized but it is available to any Buell dealer who makes the request. There is special paperwork to be filled out and slightly different procedures for this program. If you have any questions or want me to check on your memberships just give me a call at 262-814-8685.

Not sure about the dealer paying for it but I distinctly remember the dealer explaining HOG to me as if I didn`t know what it was. This was after I was told about my new subscription.

Dalton_gang,
When did you take delivery of your bike? I just ran your name through h-dnet and did not find a HOG membership for you. If your delivery was in the last 4-6 weeks it may not have been registered yet. Let me know.

"Ride to Live - Live to Ride?
More like Ride to Shop - Shop to Ride; Ride to Drink; Ride to Gamble...etc. "

No stereotyping here.

Folks, cagers and the media label all of us too much already, why add to the fray?

Before my first Buell I put over 70,000 miles on each of two Harley's while maintaining a respectable career and raising two kids. My wife put 28,000 miles on a rigid mount Sportster. I ride with guys who have won HOG chptr mileage contests with 20-25,000 miles per year.

I have done a good portion of Run to the Wall to DC for Rolling Thunder - for many from the west coast this pilgrimage is a 6-8,000 mile round trip annual journey. Them big touring Road Kings and Electra Glide Classics area as numerous as Green Bay fans at Lambeau Field on Sunday. Sport bikes and Buells, not so much if you can find them at all. But those vets and supporters don't begrudge sport riders for not being on the run - why must some sport riders ignore motorcycle heritage and criticize that which they don't ride?

Beulls and sport bikes are great, a different ride all together from a big touring bike. Are guys who bought Eriks last Harley (FXRT) in 1983 & 84 aging so they now do more local puts to the eateries? Hell yes. Don't worry, you'll get there one day too - if your lucky.

Two thoughts to leave you with...

When I was 16 I was appalled at how ignorant my father was,
When I was 21 I was amazed at how much he learned in five years.
- - Mark Twain

A young bull approached an old seasoned bull at the crest of a hill over looking a vast meadow loaded with young and healthy cows grazing.

The young bull nudged the old guy and said: "hey, let's say you & I run down there and nail us a couple pretty cows?"

The old bull, unimpressed, looked over and retorted:
"let's walk and bag them all."

Stereotyping...only reporting what I see. I am no youngster and I will ride sport bikes until I can't.

I watch the majority (not all) HD guys roll in to the local dealers, buy stuff, hang out, and go home. No long rides. That's ok - just not my idea of motorcycling enthusiasm.

Of course, HD knows its customer base and capitalizes on it very effectively. HD sells bikes AND most importantly, a lifestyle.

Buell is different... in every sense ;)

All I can say is that in 1990 I was a member and got into a accident and my wife did not make it, my son was 8 month old at the time, they had a benefit for my son and raised money for him, while I was seeing bad things going on, like people stealing money from it, and there was so much bull shit going on it just made me not want to be part of the hog chapter and that type of people. Plus not one person asked if I needed any help of did anything for me, I had just ruptured two lower disc in my back, lost my job, then lost my wife in a accident, then had to raise a baby by myself, with no car, and not one person asked me if I needed help or did anything for me. I wish they had no benefit for my son, all it did was piss me off and I did not need that, I am still angry from it and probably why I am writing this? Now I do not like those biker type guys who are suppose to be there for there brothers. I was able to raise my kid and did it with out anyones help, I had a real bad time and now over it, but now I do not associate with those biker type guys, I am a motorcyclest, not a biker, I do not own a car, I ride at all temps, and ride alone most of the time, and think this is true freedom, being out on the road all alone and doing what ever I want when I want and going were ever I want, with out worrying about anyone else trying to keep up with me, or slow me down, just me and my bike weaving in and out of traffic pissing cars off and not caring, except now my son is learning how to ride and he knows all about RUBS and wannabie bikers that have these bikes that cost more than a house and just ride to the bars to talk about how fat there tires are, I guess they are trying to make up for something. lol. Baggermike...
You are much more than just a biker, motorcyclist, whatever label you want to put on the act of riding a motorcycle.
You are an unsung hero in our everyday America that endured injury, loss of spouse, raising an infant on your own and still enjoying life and making success of what was dished out to you. You have my full respect.
