I thought if I posted to an archived thread it would bring it into the current bunch. nope.
Sooooo...

My latest mod -

I put a piece of black plastic over the wiring mess and added a DashBuell.

Most of the day Saturday was picking up a very old GE Atomic Hydrogen Welding Torch from a retired aircraft machinist.
I can't wait to get it hooked up and start playing with it.
He says with some practice I can weld anything from tin-cans to frame members, out of almost any metal.
It has the weirdest hand-piece I've ever seen.

You might lose your dash ornament if you do a big wheelie!

It's hot glued on; heated the fairing support, die-cast Buell and plastic sheet with a hair dryer, then hot glued it.
The XBR is there for a reason...
Shows it's heritage.

Where some see the 1125 as fragmented in design, I see it as an evolutionary step.

This IS what my XB9R always wanted to be when it grew up.

Z

BTW, the 1125 looks really mean if you take the fairing off.
It's not hard to imagine a "Street Fighter" without it.

Where'd you score the toy?

How about some photos of the welder?

I ordered this one online, don't remember where.
I also have a white one, like my old 9R, that one of our designers got at a seminar by Erik, in Aspen a few years back.

The Welder

Front Label

Torch Head

Any info would be appreciated.
Was afraid it was 3-phase but it's not, and I have 220 in my garage.
I will be able to play sooner than I thought.

Got the solution to a black, cool heatshield.
Thought about it after reading a few posts on the thermodynamics of black body emissivity, yah, here on BadWeB.

I painted the outside with black 1200˚ BBQ paint(just in case) after a coarse black bead blast.
The inside, I hit on the cotton wheel at work with some rouge to a high polish and finished any missed spots with a dremel.

Checked it right after riding and the top was warm, mid to bottom was cool.
Don't touch the screws tho, they'll sizzle spit.

The Tail-end is done, for now anyway.
The signals are sent off to a fellow BadWeBer in New York.
The aluminum plate is finally fit, sanded and polished and I got long enough screws for the force spreaders on the license plate mount.

Key on -

brake on -

Hey Zack I went to welding school in 1982 and never seen that kind of welder, I would like a tig welder, I miss welding, but have a mig welder I bought from haber freight tools, may be down the road I will get on but for now my money is going into the bike. Mike

The tail-light is a sealed LED custom from
Robert Hall at XB Lights.
I also took off the passenger pegs and cut some aluminum channel for caps.
The back end is very clean now.

Only thing still on the agenda is a louder exhaust.

Z:

Your rear end is really cleaned up (on your 1125r that is )

I like the license plate bracket, clean lines and simple.
