My opinion: If the batteries are delivered filled and sealed, and there is no way for the dealer to know how long they've been in storage, they should be load tested at the dealership. Not voltage tested, load tested.

Well I seem to have my squeaky front brake issue resolved...a little brake cleaner and a good rinse seems to have quiet it down.

I am still having some "surging" at around town cruising speeds. My battery seem to be properly charged and providing correct current. I don't think the mapping of the bike is optimal(I'm sure its an EPA thing) but I definately would like a fix...maybe a Buell race tuner.

I have also discovered another issue and have been able to dupicate it. If I roll off the throttle then go to WOT the bike does absolutely nothing (sounds like its choking) for a few seconds and then kicks in.

Finally, is anyone else having starting issues??? I start the bike and it fires right up & then stalls out. The second time is a charm.

On the stalling - it gets better as you get more miles.

The WOT thing, yeah, I've seen that too. She bobbles a bit if you WOT below 3k-3.5k rpm.

gotta ride to work now.

Hey guys, just went out to start my blast at 12 degrees and cranked over slowly but no go, so I tried to start the 1125R and the lock is frozen, now I put my 500 watt shop light against the blast motor to warm it up and am thinking of a way to get the 1125R's lock un frozen, I want to ride so bad, guess I will call my dealer and see what those trouble code are while I wait. Mike, you are quickly becoming my hero.

At least with the 1125 you can use a block heater.....

Mike , if your lips don't stick to it, gently breathe into the lock. A couple of breaths oughtta do it.

DAMHIK about the sticking part.

Mike:

Warm up the key or, get your hair dryer out and heat the lock. When you get it unfrozen use a good lube (not WD-40) to keep it from acting up again.

For coldweather starts on my FLHP (10.5:1 1340) I have a block heater blanket that I attached to the bottom of the case with some ultra-black RTV and a couple zip-ties. Anything under the freezing mark, it gets plugged in overnight, and keeps it nice and toasty.

On the Buells, the trickle charger seems to handle it fine; I always use the charger when it's below 45 just to make sure they start. Especially running heated gear....

Alcohol is a deicer. get an eyedropper and put a few drops on the lock and it will free up in seconds. I keep a small bottle in my lunchbox so i don't get stuck at work. I park about 10 feet from the missouri river and the humidity is terrible on carlocks.

Thanks guy these posting bords are really good, it was 12 degrees and my sons blast cranked over a little but did not start, so I put my 500 watt workshop light on the blast motor, then I tried to start the 1125 and the lock was frozen so I rememberd that I had winshield fluid deicer so I heated it up and pord it in the lock and that worked and the bike started let it warm up and then tried the blast again and it started so I figured the 1125 was not insured so why take the chance and rode the blast which ran great with all my heated gear on, my eyes froze and my heated first gear gloves did not do so good but then again I was on the hyway doing 75, so I go to the insurance co and then the regestry, I find out the insurance agent put down 07 instead of 08, so back to the insurance agency and back to the regestry, and got home at 2:30 now out again to get oil my oil filters are being droped off tomarow and I want to change the oil againn. I want to thank all you guys with your really good advice so thanks and HAPPY AND SAFE NEW YEARS TO YOU ALL. Mike

Mike- glad you got in a ride. I'm jealous. I hope you put the 1125 on a charger after you started it, idled it to warm it up, and didn't ride it to recharge...

Just funnin' ya, I wish I could have ridden today but the honeydew list is waay to long and the 150 year old log cabin isn't any closer to being liveable, lol.

it was a little to cold out today, the air coming in the helmet was giving me brain freeze from around the eye's, and the blast charging system was not good enouph to keep me totally warm, alltho it did a really good job for the tempeture, and my fingers got a little cold, seen some snow mobile grips that had a extra piece of heated pad that went on the thumb throttle and think this would be great to put on the brake and clutch levers I ride with two fingers on the clutch and brake and the metal takes the heat out quick, I am broke after buying this bike and insuring and registering it, so that will be on next month list heated grips and HID lights, and maybe I can figure out how to heat the levers. Ducxl you do not like the xb headlights try HID lights I have 35 watt hid's in the ulysses and they light up the road to really good, and now they are coming out with 50 watt hid's, now the 1125 has four bulbs and thinking of two 35 watt hid's for low beam, and two 50 watt high beams, you can find the 35 watt kits at hidfoglight.com and not a bad price for a kit that has two, they had a christmass special think they were around eight dollars, and if you want to pay more there are digital ones on another website that has small boxes, so mounting the box is not a problem, if anyone is interested email me and I will find the website for the digital ones. Loretta flooded on me for the second time, today.
First was Dec 31st.
Spent a half hour in the parking lot, plugged into a Civic to keep the battery up.

Other than that, I'm loving her.
Only had to take shit from a half dozen co-workers.

Hopefully the Elves are still optimizing the maps.
Flooding sux when you're ready to go home and have a beer.

Hey mike - now I know what happens when you get a trouble code.
Mine's a PO also, think it was 059.
Wouldn't reset from DIAG MODE, held the button for 10 or 15 seconds, must be the reset in the SETUP menu.
I'll try that tomorrow.

After tending the battery all night, charging at 1.5A, looks like that may be the culprit.
When I ran DIAG MODE for Baggermike, my static voltage was 11.9, now it's up around 13.
The battery itself is quite small, with odd specs.
12 AH and 200 CCA; depending on the current draw for the starter, that's not a whole lot of revolutions before the battery's dead.
But it will sure push hard for a little while.
I think the short rides to work, running the heated grips, just doesn't give the battery time to fully recharge.

Just ordered a Tender Junior from Deltran.

Zac,

Do you work the throttle when you start the bike?

Yes, I needed to at first especially when real cold.
Now she's loosened up enough, and I'm keeping the garage a little warmer, I just push the button without touching the throttle.
Old habits are dying fast.
I think I'm acclimating to that slipper too.

Hehehe. Blake, I made the mistake of cracking the throttle as I pushed the starter when showing the bike to my Dad. Got a little pop out of her then nothing. Ran the battery down in very short order. How freeking embarrassing is that? First thing he said was (jokingly) HAHAHA what a piece of shit! Had to jump it from his Isuzu. Even more embarrassing!! He has 2 yamaha's that often have trouble starting, it's kind of an inside joke amoungst my 4 brothers and Dad.

I know from the look on his face he really likes the 1125R. Smiling ear to ear, just like I was. When I finally got it started I gave it a couple little gooses, I think it scared him.

Zac,

I think best practice may be to leave the throttle completely closed. Let us know what specifically you figure out in that regard.

Blake - at first, she was so tight, she'd stall if I didn't give her gas at first.
Rough idle for the first minute or so.
With almost 900 miles, she's looser and starts without tickling.
You were right to ask that question.

My Firebolt would ALMOST start without any throttle.
Looks like BMC may have it with the 1125R.

I'll keep on trying to subdue the urge to give her any gas at start-up and see how it goes.

I'm sure that the battery level is the biggest culprit in my flooding woes and adding throttle just compounded the issue.

The total solution for now is to keep the battery topped off and don't touch the throttle for a few seconds on start-up.

Wow!
I had to get my glasses, I thought you got a hold of my High School picture...

Access to the plugs - If I take off the front seat, you can see the coil-over for the rear plug.
Only have a rough idea of where the front one is...
Thought about pulling the plugs for less than a second since I don't know where the front one is and didn't have a plug socket handy.
All I know to do at that point is time for the gap to dry out.

Zac, does your bike still rev a bit after starting? I have 369 miles so far and every time I start it cold, the engine revs a bit before it settles down. I'm thinking it must be a sensor calibration for altitude or something. I've noticed it doing it less as I get miles on her. Just wondering what your thoughts were, having more miles than I on your bike. I'm surely not worried about it, just curious.

i went to shenandoah hd/buell in staunton,va to see if they had received their 1125r sat. they had, but it was still in the back. they had to order another battery. they let me go in the shop and look at it, but i didn't ask any details about the battery. i didn't tell them that some of you guys had trouble with the batteries being low. can't wait to demo one.

I read this tip for getting air out of the brake lines, you take a plastic tie wrap and pull the brake lever in, and use the tie wrap to keep it pulled in over night, or intel you are ready to ride, I just did it to my front brake, my rear brake which is a little bit complicated but can be done, and the clutch lever, the air, if any, will rise up and out, and is sort of like bleeding the brakes. I just got back from my dealership and it is my voltage regulator that is bad, I knew something was wrong, and now I know what it is, should have it in 3 or 4 days. Mike

Sheridan_bueller,

Remember, it is water cooled. The Rotax motor prefers a nice hot operating temp, and compensates with a higher rev until the right temp is reached.

Just went out to the garage, pushed the button and it started up and ran at 1500 rpm for about 20 seconds, didn't touch the throttle.
Just as I hooked up the exhaust snorkel to the outside thru the "kitty door", it revved up to about 2k rpm and stayed there for 3 or 4 seconds, then dropped back to around 1200.
I let her run for 4-5 minutes, checked the oil after a 2 minute wait(good) and put her on a one Amp trickle for the night.
I doubt I'll ride tomorrow, it's supposed to snow a little bit tonight.
But, just in case, she'll be ready to go.
