Called up Progressive for the 1125R and my quote was $1100, the quote from Sentry was $300, full coverage, no points or accidents, location was rural PA. Anyone else check around? |

Steve, Dairyland/HD Insurance: Rural PA also (I'm one of your customers), no points, no accidents, tickets... clean record. $485.88 is a "guess". The gal I talked to seemed pretty confident. Dairyland needs a VIN number to give an "official quote". Kind of frustrating as Dairyland is "HD" insurance. The 1125r is "not in their system yet". |

Dairyland was not only the cheapest for my 'bolt but it was the best dealings I had yet w/ any insurance provider when making a claim. I would use them again with not even shopping around. |

"Kind of frustrating as Dairyland is "HD" insurance." Dairyland is actually Sentry Insurance. The company is based in Stevens Point, Wi. I used to work for them. They are doing business with HD/Buell, but bike insurance is a very small part of what they do. I just got coverage with them for my CityX, and was pleasantly surprised to get a better rate AND more coverage than I had with State Farm, who I am moving all my insurance needs away from! -roadrash1 |

Being I live in Wisconsin you'd think not but..... I have alot of policies with State Farm so that make a difference. |

Dana, In fact, you can't even get JUST bike insurance with State Farm. I have other policies with them too, and their bike rates were always so low. (It helps to be old and have a clean record.) I guess my big beef is with my State Farm agent is I don't think she really needs a job. (That's the way she treats you.) Also hacked-off that they raised my homeowner's insurance $200 last year. I have never had a claim with them. I am going to shop for homeowner's insurance, and see if anyone will give me a better rate. After this whole rant, I do understand that we flatlanders have to kick-in our share to rebuild all the coastal areas and assorted below sea-level habitats of others. |

I've had really good luck with Progressive. They will do a policy on just a bike if that's all you have. The rates aren't bad either. |

My rates pretty much stay level. I've gotten 10 policies with SF so if they even screw with one bad enough they lose them all. |

Sounds like you have an on-the-ball agent who knows what side their bread is buttered on! I had a good run with them, until they raised my Homeowners. But, who knows...maybe I won't find cheaper coverage for that. Gonna try though, since my local SF agent doesn't really try too hard. (Hey, she didn't even return my call.) -roadrash1 |

I've been with my agent/owner for 18 years now. He treats me pretty good and when something doesn't look right to me he explains it he'll fix it quick. |

I had State Farm for home, auto, umbrella and was strong-armed into switching my bikes to them to maintain my umbrella since Dairyland did not have high enough liability. Been with them for over 10 years and have no problems so far. Got a quote of $570 a year for an 08 'busa. Just $30 more than my 9R was. |

Geez, the cheapest I found for my XB9 was 850.00 a year and I'm 46 with no tickets on my record. I wish I had looked for a house somewhere besides Dallas county. |

Just out of curiosity I looked up my rate on Progressive. Background... I'm 26 single male with a clean record (no wrecks, no tickets within the last 3-4yrs) and I own my own home near Mobile, AL. So what do you think my insurance would be? $3140/year for bare minimum coverage($20K/$40K/$10K) with $500 deductibles for comp and collision. (no uninsured coverage, no addt'l medical, no roadside assist) What the Hell? The only way I could even afford to have one would be to pay for it in full and hope to God that I don't wreck or get robbed. Well I guess I could afford comp coverage for theft but over half of the cost is for collision! The same coverage on a '08 XB12R is $1007/yr |

Hmm, there is a God of graying hair and "dunlops". I don't dare to say what my insurance for my 3 bikes. (FWIW, Not_purple your rate would pay for 2 years for full coverage on all 3 bikes!) Time4Sleep Neil S. |

I had Progressive for 3 years. Finally did some shopping around and got Allstate for less than half of the Progressive rate. |

I think that where you live in terms of parts of the country make a huge difference. California seems to be extra screwed (add insurance to the long list). Not_purple, I would suggest on shopping some more. Collision is the heavy hitter as you have found out. I will probably drop collision as I am expecting the worst for my 1125r. |

Notpurple, check with Dairyland/Sentry. For me nothing else comes close. Some of these companies are unbelievably greedy. |

I will be switching my policy from my 99 X1 to the 1125R. USAA insurance is only raising my rate by like $75 a year. The only reason it is going up is the value of the motorcycle. They explained they have three rates. Cruiser, Japanese sport bike and all others. And since I am really old (32) i get the old rate. No more discounts for me until I am 60. Of course theft rate of the motorcycle, being married and multiple policies all matter. I think I am right around $300 a year now. |

Notpurple, check with Dairyland/Sentry. For me nothing else comes close. Some of these companies are unbelievably greedy. See that's what confuses me. I have heard that Sentry has some great rates, however I call them and they quote some unbelievably high rate for my XB9--something like $2,000 to $2,500 a year. I don't recall specifically cause it was so ridiculous. I have a clean record and I think the only thing I am guilty of is living in California. It sure is crazy how companies are all over the board on premiums. I wish I understood it. I might be saving some cash. |

'03 XB9S is $252/year with Gieco. Had progressive on several other bikes before, very good prices, excellent driving record and all, they wanted $3000/year for the XB (that's why I went with Gieco). Don't know what to expect for the 1125R. I plan on just getting the 1125 then calling the ins. co. to remove the XB and add the 1125. What I don't know is...will the ins. from the XB automatically cover the 1125 (at least for the ride home) like a car policy does after a trade in? |

Talked to Progressive yesterday. They don't have info on the 1125 yet, I told her it was comparable to the XB12R. Told her the displacement and answered some Qs, the quote was, for 1125R and 1982 FXWG: 250/yr for liability for both 1300/yr for 500 ded on 1125,plus liability on FXWG. ouch Sounds like full coverage for the first year only. SB - better ask your agent; I already dropped my XB and just renewed my Shovelhead's coverage. Will add the 1125 when it arrives, or when Sun HD gets me a VIN. Might look into Geico. Z |

I called Progressive today. My policy has the Uly and the 2004 12R with full coverage. If I trade the Bolt on a 1125R my insurance will increase $800 per year. Semi-rural PA,I'm 50 years old and have a clean record!!! Maybe I should post this on the 'Why I'm not buying an 1125R' thread |

A lot of it is due to the value of the bike. In the second year, after the blue book value drops 3-4K the ins rate should drop a little. There was a near $400 difference between my brand new 05 12Scg and my one year old 05 12Scg |
