Just found out today from the owner of my dealership... California 1125r's will be released later than the rest of the country due to our emission standards. I'm first on the list and he said we'll be lucky if we get them by mid december. bummer

No big. We may get ours later but we'll be riding ours sooner than most of everybody not in the southwest.

Thats ok as we will be trying them out at Laguna about that time!!
That way I won't agonize about a bike I can't get hold of for months after the test ride like the XB-9 I had a deposit on for almost 6 months.

Word I got from someone that you can bet would know is that the Cali emissions testing is complete and that it is just in the paperwork phase. Considering that the production doesn't start for over a month anyway, I don't think that there is any problem with timely Cali deliveries.

None, whatsoever. Buell did a smart thing.

Since the bikes at the journalist test didn't run well under 4k rpm, wouldn't Buell have to recalibrate and re-test for certification?

The bikes the journalists rode were pre-production bikes.

Pre-production bikes are what you certify.

The fueling is not supposed to change for production bikes without additional testing.

Am I incorrect, or did I read somewhere that 1125Rs are 50 state bikes?

I think almost all California bikes these days come with BBQ fuel (charcoal cannisters).

You are incorrect.

The CA bike will be equipped with a "mini-cat". The Helicon motor LIKELY would have passed "as is" but that was too great a risk to take and possibly delay CA shipments.

The mini-cat has NO IMPACT on power or performance. CA bikes will not be delayed.

I may not have the details right and would happily yield to those with superior knowledge. . .

All of you guys doing your ride at Laguna, just STFU until we've had OUR turn in the saddle. I don't CARE how much fun you have, don't spoil it for us, OK?

Guys, the cat is completely hidden in the muffler collector. There would be no visual clue as to whether an 1125R had one or not, other than on the ID number on the frame saying it's a California or Europe model. And it takes away no power. Why go to all the measures to have one without??!!

Anony, is it true that the new Euro specs are so close to CA that Buell would make a model for CA/Europe and one for the 49 states. Or is the bike essentially the same for all? Or do I have it all screwed up (which is very possible).

Uh you'd have to cut it out not off and I'd be willing to bet that if I didn't tell you it was there that you'd never find it . . . at least without a cutting torch . . . it'd never show up on a dyno.

Ride the motorcycle and enjoy it.

I remember hearing the same delay rumor for CA bikes when the XB's were due to ship back in '03. As we've already heard, there's no truth to it.
The bummer about the cat system is that we can get nicked on federal charges for tampering with emission systems rather than just getting a ticket for noise or a fix-it ticket for a modified exhaust... Been more than a few smart ass riders on the crest who've had their bikes towed and impounded after mouthing off about getting stopped for aftermarket pipes.
Good thing Buellers are a polite bunch!

Don't try to read anything into this, it's just a question.
Some of the test riders at Laguna Seca reported a "hot foot" issue.

Catalytic converters on automobiles reportedly get hot enough to start grass fires.

Is it possible that the "hot foot" was the result of heat from the catalytic converter equipped bikes?

Matty, the Xb's were delayed in CA, I know because I waited for months after the original release date for them to be okayed for CA. Ended up buying another S-2 instead.

The bikes they used out here looked like they were 49 state bikes. No cats. They had out of state plates anyway.

A catalitic converter should only get excessively hot if it is partially or completely clogged.

A good flowing cat shouldn't get much if any hotter than the header pipes.
