I just got a copy of the new Cycle World today.
I almost shed a tear of joy reading it.
It's was strange reading such praise for a brand I've believed in for so long against and despite the masses.

It must be very emotionally overwhelming for Erik and his team.

Looks like our day in the sun has arrived : )

Court, Thanks for the advance notice. It gave me goose pimples to see that cover on a respected mag like CW. I've been a subscriber to CW for many many years and I can't wait to read the article to see if they give Buell a fair shake. It sure looks like it from the cover.

I don't think so. Squids are followers and IMO probably wouldn't get over the sticker shock. I think we'll be seeing more seasoned guys/racers interested now.

I have mixed feelings--I want Buell to have a hugely successful mainstream bike along with all the recognition it deserves and at the same time I want to keep the exclusivity of Buell (which one of the main reasons I bought a Buell in the first place!)

I would welcome the seasoned guys and racers, but squids can stick to the Jap bikes. MAYBE the side pods will be enough to keep the squids away--one can only hope!

Uhhh, I am thinking that Buell would want every squid out there to buy one of these 1225R's...that is the idea. If you have been watching SPEED lately you will see a commercial starting out with Erik talking about how the other manufacturers not considering the rider like Buell does while a couple of 1125Rs are flying around a race track to the tune of some head banger rock'n'roll. Very squidly stuff.

Why are you hoping for Buell's marketing failure to attract squids too? Buell could give a crap less about your desire to limit sales to only cool guys like you so that you can feel exclusive. They are in the business to sell motorcycles and make money, and they don't care who buys them.

Uhhh. Jimidan...did you bother to read the first paragraph of my post? Here it is...

"I have mixed feelings--I want Buell to have a hugely successful mainstream bike along with all the recognition it deserves and at the same time I want to keep the exclusivity of Buell (which one of the main reasons I bought a Buell in the first place!)"...simply stating my feelings.

I never said I was cool. And by the way, a TRACK and ROCK AND ROLL are NOT things associated with squids. Sorry. Squids to me are guys that go fast in a straight line, have massive chicken strips and probably most listen to Hip Hip these days. Showing your age there, Jimi.

Whoever has the desire, money and/or credit will buy the bike, period. I wish nothing but the best for Buell and I think virtually all my posts support that claim.

So twist my post, Jimidan if that makes you feel like the genius you think you are.

Uhhh, I am thinking that Buell would want every squid out there to buy one of these 1225R's...while a couple of 1225Rs are flying around a race
Oh, by the way it is the 1125r unless Buell came out with a special model for ol' Jimidan.

Actually THAT one is a typo but I am, at present, writing about the "special Buells", the ones built by the factory that technically "didn't exist".

I expect to find about 3 but am closer to two dozen. . . fun stuff!

Buell is in business to make money and does not prequalify buyers . . . if so, I'd have been out in 1988.

Also squids probably aren't attracted to slogans like "Built from the rider down" I think it would take them to long to figure out exactly what that means.
They more attracted to terms like "Fastest" "Most Powerful" and "No payments until June"

Why are "squids" going to going to eat crow and buy a 1125R when they can get a Busa or 1L Jap bike with more hp and higher top speed for the same or lower price?

Thanks for correcting my typo...is that the best ye' got?

But seriously (if this can be construed as a serious conversation...which it is not), that is not what you said in your first post and you know it. If anyone is twisting your post it is you...I have no reason to do so as I was just pointing out what you seemed to be saying. Practicing revisionary tactics does not alter the substance of your original post that is there for all to see. Actually, I am just breaking your balls a bit since you seem to delight in busting others.

I never said I was a 'genius', but you did say you were "exclusive" (and if that ain't the same as saying you are "cool", what is?).

So we disagree on what constitutes a squid...showing your age (immaturity) a bit too? I have seen plenty of squids at the racetrack, and I know what a squid is. Your definition is hardly the consensus, but you are entitled to it, for sure. Let's see what others think, shall we?

Wikapedia:

"A squid is an irresponsible motorcyclist. The term is derogatory and common among motorcyclists in North America. It is generally associated with a new or reckless motorcyclist seen riding erratically and/or beyond his or her capabilities, often without appropriate riding gear.

The origin of the word is varyingly attributed:

A contraction of:
"Squirrely" and "kid" (possibly taken from California surfing culture), or
"Squished" and "kid", or
"Squished" and "idiot"
An acronym for:
"Stupidly Quick, Underdressed, Ignorant and Dangerous", or
"Stupidly Quick, Underdressed and Imminently Dead"
Note: both of these are likely to be backronyms"

and more:

"You Might Be A S.Q.U.I.D. (Some Quick Unimportant Immature ) If ...

Here's a handy guide to SQUID spotting. Are YOU a SQUID? Could you be considered a SQUID by other bikers? Take the following test and find out ... If you say "Hey! That's what I do !" to more than a few of these statements, you're in serious trouble! Rehabilitation isn't out of the question, it just takes a lot of effort and a lot of maturity on your part.

SEND SUBMISSIONS TO BLACK ECHO. Yes, I do update this page, not often, but now that it is in an area with similar items, I will probably update it a lot more. If you 've sent me submissions but don't see them, I may have lost them. Please resubmit. For the message line of your email, type "SQUID IF submission" so I will be sure to sort them properly. Now, on with the mirth.

You might be a SQUID if:

Actually saw this one the other day, SQUID on a CBR600F4i, wife beater muscle shirt, cut off jean shorts, sandals, and his helmet was resting on top of his head. Not ON his head and secure, just stuck on top of his pumpkin like it was a hat rack or something. I kept waiting for a good gust of wind to come along and take the helmet off. -Christopher T. You tell anyone you have gone 160 on the street

Your "racing" jacket is from Wal-Mart.

You think Arai is Jamaican for OK

You don't have a clue what a Buell is

You bought a Sport bike and put saddlebags and a sissy bar on it so you can go to Sturgis.

You keep fouling plugs riding with the choke on

You have Harley stickers on your car and ride a Rebel

Your Mom and Dad won't ride with you

There is a crack in your helmet

You helmet is the wrong size

You ride with ANY safety features on your bike not working

You have a cup holder duct taped to your handlebars."

I'm wondering how many of these bikes they can actually make. They made 12 thousand bikes last year. If they sell 10 thousand 1125rs this year I imagine that would be successful beyond their wildest dreams. If they need to sell 20 thousand, I suspect there would be some growing pains.

If 20,000 units is the pain of growing, think of $2,400,000,000 cash on hand as the analgesic to help ease the pain.
