I'm harking back to the days I owned my 3 SHO's. . . the Yamaha motor was the best thing Ford ever did.

I'm definitely not a Harley guy, although I have no ill will toward their bikes. The tens of thousands of posers who ride on their Harleys with their doo-rags, chaps and leather vests festooned with Harley patches...well, them I can do without.

It looks like many of the body panels from the Firebolts will fit on the 1125..am I right? I mean the airbox cover, seats and rear tail.

Different in no more sense.

A shortstroke,dohc,4 valve watercooled engine?

Why should I buy/ride that?
The difference, the uniqueness that was the trademark of Buell,is not available anymore.

Out there are more than enough engines/bikes of that kind already.
Japan makes them for more than 20 years, probably much more reliable, and definitely cheaper.
Cagiva from Italy did it as well.

I´m stunned and more than disappointed. They should close the Buell factory down.

Is it just me or am I posting on BizarroBadWeb? All the naysayer(so-called)-bashers have now become the naysayers. You guys crack me up. I guess it's time for all of us to go order our Road Glides. And while were at it, I demand that Buell bring back those leaky paper head-gaskets!!

Buell has finally come unto their own and all you guys can do is b@tch? Hilarious.

X1devil.......I agree with you if you show me an 1100 V-twin with 146 HP and a straight torque curve from 20 years ago, if you can't I'd suggest not posting in this forum. Just my 2 cents and not meant to offend. Just tired of hearing about how the japs have done this. The only thing Japanese even close is the Honda RC51, which is about 25 hp's away from 146 hp and weights about 80 pounds more than the new Buell, and that's realitivly new jap stuff.

Hey, guys, ease up here.

The 1125R is not here to REPLACE the air-cooled Buells, its here to supplement them. Its the top dog in the Buell lineup, but it doesn't mean the end of the line for the lump. I love the lump. It has more character than a hundred water-cooled motors, and tough? I have the feeling that the lump will still be running strong when my grandkids are grown.

The 1125R deserves respect and will be a strong seller for Buell, but as long as there is demand the air-cooled line will continue to be built as well. God if I hear any more whining I'm gonna smack somebody...

my 1st thought on viewing, "hey nice suzuki!" in the pics the scoops do look big and the mirrors ..blah. But it has its Buell styling in areas.
I'll take Court's advise and wait til i see it in person for a final view on looks.

maybe for 2009 there will be a 'streefighter' version.

"I´m stunned and more than disappointed. They should close the Buell factory down."

I'm not too disappointed, but I can kind of see Ralph's point. In my mid 40's, any new superbike just illicits a passing fancy and not a burning desire for me to be at one with it. But the future is coming and Buell needs to be a part of it.

I thought the Arms Race was over for me... but this new Buell just made me contemporary... AGAIN.

I'm with Xldevil, and I am a Harley Davidson kinda guy (wanna see my Shovel?).
Water cooled trillion hp bikes are a dime a dozen, kinda like fat guys on Fat Boys, but given the choice, I'll take the Harley.
I'd rather order the Road Glide with the leaky paper rocker box gaskets.
I bought tubers and XBs because they were Harley Davidson motors and "Different in every sense" not "me too Jap race replicas"
Have at it lads

I agree: design wise, the scoops look weird, the muffler horrible and puny, and the front too massive for the bike. Technically, I love the idea of a modern engine.

Somehow I do not get that "love" feeling that I had when I saw my first XB on the road, and which made me look at the report where the XB was the "top cornering bike" in the world, which in the end finally caused me to buy my 12R cash from Liberty (love those guys!).

I was afraid to post my comments as I don't want to be seen as a "Buell hater", which I am not. I think Buell bikes are beautiful, but this model looks like they attached mismatched parts to a 12R! I love the high tech panel, the engine, the LED signals, etc, but I'll pass until they make some revisions to the design, or come out with a new model with the same engine.

I love my 12R too much to trade it for this model. Maybe in person it will look better.

One question: who is going to perform work on this engine? Harley mechanics?

I think the new bike is absolutely AWESOME!

I've NO criticism whatsoever. Now i feel i wasted that ten grand on upgrades for my 996 Ducati.Oh well, the note will be paid off within 3 years.Looks like an '11 for me.
Maybe once the Duc is back together i'll sing a different tune.

It's hilarious to hear the guys' here dissin' the new higher performing Buell.

How in the hell can a "superbike" not have a full fairing? Is it a street fighter or a superbike? Hopefully the swingarm looks better in person as well. Also why not just use a real slipper clutch instead of a clutch that has "slipper action"?

146hp equal about 125 rear wheel hp, which is about the same as a GSXR750 hardly in World Super Bike territory. I would love to see the hp and torque curves.

I guess I was expecting performance on the level with the 1098 since that will be the kind of bike it will be classed with in CCS and other racing organizations. Hoping for something competitive right out of the box like the other manufacturers. Instead it looks like you will have to spend plenty just to get close.

A lap counter with a half fairing, belt drive and prewired heated grips....that is some funny sh*@ right there.

Bummer.

i'm with Ted on this. some of us have been asking for a better motor for some time. i'll take one in black. the 5 other Buells will have a new roommate! 92rs,2 95s-2, 97s1, 98s1w. i hope it doesn't need as much maintenance as the s1's. i was planning on a 9r after the first of the year anyway so i've been saving some cash.

"The difference, the uniqueness that was the trademark of Buell,is not available anymore. "

What? I thought the new bike had the ZTL brake, fuel in frame, mass centralized design, and the legendary Buell handling? THOSE are the things that make a Buell a Buell...not a highly modified Harley Sportster motor.

If you want the paint shaker motor, it's still available.

Erik said it best when I spoke with him at the meeting. "People used to say we used the other motor because it's all we had. Now we can tell them that we use it because we like it".

It's a fine motor, but it doesn't define Buell.

Wow, Buell adds another bike, not just suspension and plastics and so many of you are still whining........

They are simply expanding their lineup to sell more bikes to build better bikes.

For all of you who dont like it, go start your own MC company and lets see how you do.

And I will be flying by on the back wheel as I pass you coming out of any turn on any given track.

By the way, Love my 12R, parting her out so I can get a 1125R. I am not worried about the tech who will work on it, it will be me and me only since the warranty will be void the first weekend I have the bike.

I will have another 12R but for now I want to race and this is the bike to compete.

I would love to see the hp and torque curves.

They are on the mini site. The torque does not have a curve, flat from 3500 to 10,500!

Buell has already proven that there is a market for an American made sport bike. And we all know that market wants the bike to perform better. A lot better. And that was not going to happen with the air cooled, push rod, OHV, V-twin.

So Buell responded to the market in what appears to me to be the best possible way. It is still a V-twin, using an engine that puts it on the market at a price that is not off the scale, it looks like it should both handle and perform, it is still an American motorcycle, and it looks like it may be able to survive and prosper.

And, on top of that, no matter which Buell engine you like best, you can still get one that way. I just don't see any losers in the picture here, it is a winner all the way around.

I'm a guy that loves the air cooled push rod twin, I don't need the extra 80 HP, and sports bikes are now a spectator sport for me. I've officially outgrown them at age 65. My next transition will be to a bagger with foot boards for my 75th birthday. And that will be another air cooled twin I hope.

Jack

Uhm, HD does have a liquid cooled bike in their line-up don't they?

All this does is make the Buell line-up all that much more appealing to ALL buyers.

Off roaders....Uly
Race Enthusiasts...1125
Sport Enthusiasts...R
Street sport...S
Beginners.....Blast
Motard........TT

What's wrong with covering the market? I don't see Harley or Buell rolling over and dying just yet. Some of you guys are beginning to sound like the chap, do-rag, chain wearing guys who said Harley was dead when they intro'd the V-Rod.

I'm not an "R" lover, but would love to see this motor offered in the S....at least give us the option to have the 1125 or a 1203.

I believe some are under the misguided impression that Buells are Harley Davidson sport bikes.

For every "this is my last Buell" person, there will be 20 "this is my first Buell" people.

What the hell is Buell Thinking?!?

If I wanted a sport bike I'd buy one of these.

instead of one of these

And seriously Harley is just as bad.
I mean really if I wanted a air cooled cruiser I'd get one of these.

instead of one of these

And if I wanted a power cruiser I could get one of these

instead of one of these

Damn Buell and Harley for copying the japanese!!

do we have a "dripping with sarcasm" smilie?

You didn't catch my "dripping with sarcasm" bit?

I was just poking fun at the "that 1125R ain't 'merican/aircooled/unique so I ain't buying" folks and those that compare it to a cookie-cutter jap bike.
Specifically this one:
Xldevil : "I´m stunned and more than disappointed. They should close the Buell factory down"

That's about the dumbest thing I've read about the new Buell. Ralph, did you say that Harley need to close shop after they introduced the V-Rod?

The only part of my last post that was truth was if I wanted a cruiser I'd buy a V-Star (same looks and comfort of a softail at half the price) but I'm not looking at getting a cruiser anytime soon. My wonderful Buell handles long hauls with comfort, style , and performance.
