So many high powered sport and sport touring motorcycles subject the rider to irritating intense heat coming off the engine/exhaust and/or the cooling system.

What have you done on the 1125R to ensure that the rider remains cool, and what happens to the hot air exhaust exiting the radiators?

Shouldn't they really be called "convectors"? : )

Would be cool err hot... If the hot air could be routed towards the rider -- during winter months.

There was a huge amount of work done to address the issue of radiator heat, and it is part of the decision matrix that led us to the split radiators. What we have done is to duct the air between engine and frame, with a special frame design specifically to accomplish that. We also combine ambient air with it as it heads into the ducted exit region in the frame. The rear crossmember is shaped like an airfoil for good reason. We also spill some out the bottom rear corners of the pods where it swirl-mixes with ambient. The CFD work here was really "cool". Sorry, couldn't resist.

I think buell needs to really explain why the radiators were placed were they were to the general public.
they are there for a good reason but to the general onlooker it just looks funny

Does the bike have electric cooling fans?
No discussion about fans...

Just noticed that, I wonder if that's what the new piece blocks on the right side.

To Anony.....

I noticed that the Ecm is mounted in the left Pod...does it really get hot enough to require this placement or is there another reason for this?..Thanks!

Room to fit it? Where else will it fit that will minimize length of wiring and such?

No mention of fans in the manual... where are they on the bike?

I'm hoping there is a way to direct the heat back onto the rider (me) while riding in cold weather. Does anyone who's looked the bike over think this is a possibility?

Buellnick.... if you go to youtube and search for "1125r Laguna 3" near the end of the video you will see the fans (well one of them anyways) if you pay close attention. Too bad they couldn't keep the camera still. Here is the direct link too...

And you know, now that I think about it, having walked up and down rows of 1125r's that had been flogged on the track, I don't remember hearing fans run. Maybe they were and I was otherwise distracted... or maybe you don't hear them as much now...

I didn't catch the fans on the YouTube links but I really liked the cut-away bike.

Too bad Buell hasn't posted some high quality pics of the cutaway. As for the fans, I believe the folks who tell me they're there...

Thanks for the info. ...and you factory guys out there might consider putting the cutaway pics (or a really good walk around video) on the Buell website... eye candy for those of with money down and waiting patiently; or those who are thinking and not sure...

On a properly designed water cooled bike the fans aren't going to run unless you're stuck in stop and go traffic. If the bike is moving at a steady 15mph+, that ought to keep enough airflow through the radiators to keep the coolant temp below the setpoint for turning on the fans.}

"What happens to the hot air exhaust exiting the radiators?"

Inevitably some of it will end up on BadWeB, heating the place up as usual.

Blake, Blake, glad to see you haven't lost your sense of humor. By Thursday we will need some of that hot air up here in TN.

Rode 175 miles on the ST today and the air ducted thru the radiators, over the heads and onto my knees felt REAL nice!

Later

I've had more than a few rides over the years where I've reached down and lightly rested my left hand (in glove) upon the rear cylinder head for warmth.

+5 Blake. That's the one thing that drove me nuts on my XB9R. Couldn't find a warm spot, but I found the header a few times and melted my gloves.

I have the "heated grip kit" ready to be installed on the 1125 when it arrives.
