I don't see why so many complain about price point, the XB is the least priced bike in the bunch.

Amen, Spike.

add to that the fact that components for the jap/euro bikes are WAY higher than those on the buell.

less cost for maintenance and upkeep and less downtime after crashes. : )

i bought an '06 a year ago. i'd take a hit on it trading it in for a chance at takin' my BUELL to the track and not getting left behind in the straights.

the slogan "Own the Corners" is true. i handle corners better on my bike than any other. i'd just like to "own the corners" and still not be a slug in the straights.

if the ONLY change is more motor, i'm in and takin' a big a$$ hit on my trade.

There's gonna be some smokin' deals on used XB's if the 08 is half of what's been speculated.

"I don't see why so many complain about price point, the XB is the least priced bike in the bunch."

true, and it offers the least out of that group too in terms of performance. again, yes, they handle great, mags and people rant and rave about handling, but get on a short straight and youre in teh back of the group again.

also, heres somethign i havent see mentioned, but id like to see a new cluster on new bike.
nothing wrong with the one out now, but i love the clusters on pretty much every other sport bike out there
nice big tach with digital speedo, id like to see a factory shift light thats programable to whatever you want it to be.

id like to get a clock (they are very very convinient), have one on my s3 and love it

thats it. i love xb chassis bikes, love the looks of a R series, give it more power and cluster and ill be in love for years and years. even if no cluster ill still be in love : )

There's already smoking deals on Xb's and the deals are not hard to find. Approximately 4-5k will get you a nice R with substantially less than 10k miles on it. Deals aside, I can't wait till 7-8-07.

That is just a photoshop like the one of the XBRR with the rotax in it. I would seriously doubt Buell will introduce a completely new bike without changing the cosmetics too. Through all this speculation I still wouldn't be surprised to see bold new colors and graphics. The only thing that keeps me hoping is that Buell has not re-addressed the pure sportbike market since the introduction of the 12R in 04....

I just got my August MCN mag. It gave a lame “ report card ” on a long term, 06 ULY. Most of the details highlighted were the usual warranty issue items most of us already know about and were fixed w/ the 07. They (MCN test Uly) must have had like number two off the assembly line. What a drag. If I were to read that article before my purchase of the 06 ULY, I would have serious reservations about were to lay my money down. As it stands, I have almost 15k on my 06 and other than a flat tire from a nail and 1 (one) loose screw found after the first week of owning the bike, I have had 0 (zero) problems w/ the machine. Not even the warranty issues have come to light. I have been to the HD dealer only to purchase new oil filters and a T-shirt. I have been riding for 21 years and have had countless bikes (other than HD that is). The renegade, my term, style and the performance components of the XB line is what first caught my eye. Never before could I have imagined my self on a HD let alone, a Buell. After close examination of the components, the ease of maintenance and the simplicity of the machine as a hole, I could not help but compare and further research this little known bike company. As a former moto-cross racer, I was fully aware and appreciated the high end brakes, suspension as well maintenance. It took me nine months of careful consideration to fully commit and say goodbye to the big four once and perhaps for all. One can nit pick all day long about most any bike however in my opinion, dollar for dollar, Buell is a great bargain even at 12500. Parts are inexpensive, upkeep is a breeze and the mileage is killer! I commute to work everyday in Phoenix about thirty five miles and have never been let down. 115 degrees outside = 130 on the freeway. The heat issue of the bike (as MCN puts it) is a joke. My last ride (V-Max) had a radiator in front that billowed out as much if not more heat than the ULY and it hit both legs, not just one. Nit picking once again. Either way, the XB line is an affordable, reliable and well engineered piece of machinery. To a trained skeptical eye and informed consumer such as myself, I have to say Eric is on a roll with the XB line and by supporting Buell, we all win. A unique, American built product that every sassy young squid at the local Starbucks does not own nor would they understand. BTW, my latest MCN (just came last night) says they will look at the revised 08 Uly next month. Is this a sign that only the Uly gets the big change? Will the entire XB line see a big change as well? Was there really anyone on that grassy knowl in Dallas? These and many more questions will be answered after the 8th. Stay tuned boys and girls. Until then, enjoy your Buell and play nice.

Garret,

"i think everyone (mostly) has the same thought i had when i put the 10kish comment earlier. These arent Ducatis, dont price them that way."

These are Buells, some of the most unique and innovative sport bikes on the market; it's okay to price them that way, yes? :/

Maybe yet another eye-opening comparison of motorcycle performance versus price for the Buell market segment is in order.

Apparently some folks are stuck on the repli-racers of Japan Inc., unable to see any of the other models of sport bike manufactured by the likes of Ducati, BMW et al.

Here's some sporting models that you may have ignored, but which are in the same market as the current lineup of Buell motorcycles:

Bike MSRP RWHP Weight
Buell XB12S $10,500 92 HP 462 LB
BMW R1200R$13,000 102 HP 492 LB
Ducati S2R1000 $10,500 78 HP 459 LB
Buell XB12R $10,500 92 HP 462 LB
BMW R1200S $14,700 102 HP 472 LB
Ducati SS1000DS $11,000 78 HP 464 LB
BMW R1200GS $14,900 84 hp 544 LB
Buell XB12X $11,500 92 HP 498 LB
Buell XB12STT $10,300 92 HP 470 LB
Ducati MTS1100 $12,000 83 HP 486 LB
Ducati HM1100 $11,500 83 HP 462 LB

"Go to suzuki and get a gsxr 1000"
By all means please do. They are great motorcycles.

"and it'll handle probably just as well in most of our hands"
Highly doubtful. Having 150 RWHP on tap presents very real consequences.

"and have almost double the hp at the wheels."
Doubling of 90 RWHP would be 184 RWHP, more than 20 RWHP greater than the GSXR1000 puts down.

"Im sorry, but I cant justify 15k on a bike right now, and Im not going to pay more than 12 (hopefully much less) for a buell with 120 hp."
Such is the beauty of personal choice in a free market with so many wonderful alternatives.

"I love buell to death"
That is silly, really silly.

"but some of you are off the map, thinking its the greatest thing ever."
I've seen this kind of charge made frequently here. I've yet to see anyone actually express such a view in general terms.

Maybe you can tell me, cause I've always been curious to know, which motorcycle really is "the greatest thing ever"? Might that be a subjective matter, to each his own? I can tell you right now that as far as motorcycles go, I think that my cutomized '97 Buell Cyclone is "the greatest thing ever." Are you going to tell me that I'm wrong? LOL.

"Its not as 'common' as the big 4, but its not as elite as ducati etc "

Ducati sells a lot of different models of motorcycles besides their repli-racer lines. Are you saying that the Buell Ulysses is not as elite as the Ducati Miltistrada? The XB9S is not as elite as a Monster 800? Frankly the word elite outside of racing machines/repli-racers doesn't make a lot of sense to me for characterizing a brand of motorcycles. Maybe "exotic" would be more appropriate.

"price it right (10-11ish) and you'll sell as many as you want (if the rumors are true about the 120-130ish hp). overcharge like now (its sorta true) and well.....it'll be like now, just sitting around in the showrooms"
Where do you get your market comparison sales information? I'd like to see it. My local dealer has a few Buells on the floor is all. The Ducati dealership is packed with bikes.

"and i apologize to anyone who thinks im bashing buell, i love buell and its what i really want. i have a s3 now and am looking for a new bike, have a buddy with a killer deal on a cbr600rr for dirt cheap, but even with a great price im still leaning towards paying twice as much for a new buell with the same power. i love the brand. but i still see its flaws, im not blind"

Maybe not totally blind, but you sure do seem to suffer from a myopic point of view concerning what for some customers makes one motorcycle more valuable than another. Hint: There are many other factors besides HP that some folks deem important in their motorcycle.

Are you trying to tell me that you can purchase a current model new CBR600RR for half the price of a new Buell, or are you exaggerating again? :/ If you are willing to shop around, you can probably find a nice new 2006 model XB12R for around $9500 or so.

My 2000 M2 was the greatest bike ever.

And my 2005 XB9SX is even better. ;)

As will be the low milage TT that one of you jokers is going to sell me for $5000 when you decide you just have to have a the new liquid cooled model : )

Blake,

Check your numbers for the R1200S. That puppy puts out a bit more than just 102 hp. More like 120...

PS: If you want to compare other than MSRP pricing, like what your local dealer is willing to sell his left over GSXR's for, then you need to do the same for the Buells.

It really sounds to me like you are most interested in maximum HP per dollar. If so, then you should aim to get yourself a nice used 2006 model GSXR1000.

Now wait a minute. You have not seen my Uly w/ its new tires and GPS device. I'm sure it has got to be the best bike ever.

I'll give $5001.95 for the TT.

i didnt say it was new, its an 06 and its 4k. guy is ready for a house and looking to move it quick.

there are more factors than hp, youre right, but it is a nice feature and dont front like you dont care about power at all.

cool, your local place only has a few buells, same here. now, im assuming thats a hd/buell dealership. the ducati dealership, well i could see it being packed with ducatis cause, well, it IS a ducati dealership. ive yet to go to a hd dealership and see many buells at all. maybe its different where you are.

im not real familiar with the complete ducati line, but we all know they are more of an elite bike than a buell

"i love buell to death" apparently youre new to the country and arent familiar with expressions. welcome to america, enjoy your stay.

im decent at math, thats why i used the word "almost" instead of flat out saying it was double the hp, i knew that wasnt true

yes, that much hp could present some very bad consequences, but you missed the point, to most average riders the buell and literbike will prob handle close to the same.

"go to suzuki and buy a gsxr" great, you took one portion of the statement, what about the rest? i didnt say that i would or was thinking of it, i was giving an example of pricing etc

as for teh "greatest thing ever" - look at threads such as "xb haters" when someone says the reason the "rice burner" (something to that effect) flipped off the xb owner was due to jealousy. thats why i say things like that. not everyone feels they have the greatest thing and people envy them for their bike, but their are some here that feel that way and thats who i was talking about.

i cant wait to see what you get out of disecting this post.

and blake, its not about maximum hp per dollar at all, if thats the case i wouldnt be excited about a POSSIBLE 120-130hp buell coming out that im sure will be at the least 10.5.

but hp is important and id rather not pay ducati price for a 600cc japbike power.

Blake, don't take this the wrong way, because I swear it's not meant to sound harsh or rude.

If Buell is SOOO competitive in price and has so many technological advantages, why in the world does it lag so far behind in sales?

(not that I even know any sales numbers... just basing that statement off the lack of other Buells on the road, and hearing others talk about their rarity)

Handling is very much related to power delivery. If you are used to being able to twist the throttle existing a turn on your Buell and then jump onto a repli-racer literbike and do the same, well, it won't be pretty. It sure won't handle the same. Pull in the clutch, you may have a point. The GSXR steering sure won't be anywhere near as quick compared to an XB12R, but a GSXR is a good handling bike for sure, no doubt.

Elite means nothing to me. For those who are needing to impress others with their material posessions, I guess it may. I just buy the motorcycle that I like the best. The Ducati Monster series has been around since the early '90's, and some folks say that the XBs are getting long in the tooth. LOL.

thank you, exactly my point, they ARENT competitive in price and thats why i think it would be wise for them to stick with current pricing even with more power

Swordsman,

The word to understand is "market." Buell is not in the low cost motorcycle market. For that you have the SV650, the 600cc standards, even the Japan Inc middleweight repli-racers, and all the rest. Buell competes in the same market as the Ducatis, BMWs, Aprilias and the like. Semi-exotic, or at least very unique. See the table above. No one looking for max HP/$ is going to end up purchasing a Buell XBike.

But from what I've heard (just heard, mind you), most consumers wouldn't consider Buell to be in the same category. Whether it is or it isn't, the customer's viewpoint is law, and low sales on Buell's end would seem to confirm that.
