Well, the cat's out of the bag. Here's the new Buell motor:

http://thekneeslider.com/archives/2007/06/17/desmo harley-a-real-ducati-harley-davidson-merger/

And you thought this Harley/Ducati merger was just a bunch of bull....

Seriously, that is a pretty cool idea for an engine, but unfortunately that appears to be a big twin and not a Buell/Sportster.

I would like 6 valve heads with that please.

Does anybody have a lead on Frank Romanelli?
He use to be the Bimota / Ducati distributor in Canada years ago and has a patent on the 6 valve heads.

I recently read on "another forum" that someone is saying that there may be a new even lower suspension available for the ulyssess. We'll see if this turns out to be a bunch of bunk in a few weeks, but the most common complaint I hear about the Uly is "the seat is too high for my short legs."

A Uly Low may sell well. I also would like to know what the XR1200 ended up looking like and if it will be sold in the states!!

Did I kill the thread, or have we all just decided that there will be no more news before July 9th??

You can't get past post 666 without resurrecting what is dead or making a deal with the devil.

You obviously have to start a new thread about the same thing to keep the spirit alive. That 's what I did. It's all fun.

The valve geometry in that engine above isn't right for a Buell... It's alright for a big twin though...

I saw his desmo 6 valve heads bolted onto an 888, he was just waiting for custom length belts. I lost track of what he was up to after that.

Mndwgz, that link is to a Harley motor for the Dyna ... its a nice grunt block, but it is very heavy. I have never seen a Dyna pull the performance that I get out of my Buell. I really hope that is not the new motor for E troy.

Something is completely backwards...The closer we get to the big day, the less activity and rumors. Isn't that backwards?

Nope, that's reality. People realizing that all their speculation is just that: speculation.

OK, here's some good speculation/rumors I just found on a Suzuki SV forum:

"For people wondering, I keep seeing rumors about 2008 Buell mills. Here's a few:

-New rules for Formula Extreme (the AMA series the XBRR races in) have a provision for a 4-valve pushrod twin of 1250cc. Could the Buell mill see 4 valve heads?
-Rumor has it that HD is working on a liquid cooled version of the Evolution motor.
-Buell/HD is rolling out a new dirt-bike with a 450cc Rotax powerplant. Rumors are that Buell may getting a large-twin Rotax powerplant to play with.

It's all speculation and hearsay now, but we'll have to wait and see."

From what I see, Rotax power for a new XB model seems to be the most consistent rumor, for all that's worth.

I've said it once and I'll say it again. I don't like seeing other manufacturers motors used in a Buell street bike. It reminds me of OCC or backyard hackers welding up bikes in their garage, which proves that just about any ya-hoo can assemble a motorcycle. Give me American iron or nothing in my Buell.

Well I think like him and the answer to your why for me is I love the harley motor feeling. I was going to buy a superduke and it didn't have the nice character of the buell so even if it got the power I want I'll stick with getting a buell.

If the entire bike is going to be engineered to such a high degree and continuously tweaked as it has been for about 5 years the only logical step is drivetrain improvements. I really do not see any other gaping holes in this bikes package as far as being a legit superbike chaser. Honestly I do not care how they get an extra 20 or so Hp out of it as long as they do (be it a rotax water cooled lump or a road going version of the RR motor.)

Just out of curiosity, why?

because they outsource just about everything else to China,Taiwan,Japan, etc. that with a foreign engine it'd no longer be an "American motorcycle".

I heard a rumor where Buell is going to buy MotoCysz and gain access to their proprietary/revolutionary I-4

Buell sources parts to the best supplier, period. It has a preference for American suppliers if possible, but not at a sacrifice of quality, and is actually bringing some big parts back here. Very, very few high-value parts are bought from China or southeast Asia, though some parts (swingarm and suspension components) are bought from Japan because that is where the technology currently is. But we're finding American suppliers who can do some revolutionary parts you'll be hearing about someday.

I was googling around and found an old post that stated that the XB platform will only comply with EPA requirments untill '08. If that is a fact, what changes will have to be made to comply in the future? (Water cooled seems an obvious answer.)

Lots of bikes have already added a catalytic converter. Buell could always do that and get at least another few years out of the existing engine.

EPA changes every 4 years to what understand. The 04 XB12's were 08 EPA legal. Thats probably the post you are referring to. Water cooling doesn't mean cleaner emissions. Take the smog devices off a inline and it runs filthy. Our air cooled twins run very clean virtually next to nothing smog control devices in comparison.
