This is what I'm talking about.....

The few press mentions of this scoot in the past week or so have described it as a Hybrid diesel electric, which would be an awesome thin in any bike. Never mind a small capacity scooter. But it's NOT a Hybrid at all. A 1 HP electric motor in the front wheel is a bit of a stretch to claim Hybrid status.

FFS.

Otherwise, yeah it's a scooter. Looks pretty functional to me.

I believe the optional electric assist is from a hub motor which is quite different in appearance than the picture.

I have an electric scooter with a 3 KW hub motor. It is quite handy for jaunts to the grocery, and errands around the neighborhood. A recharge only costs about 14 cents.

The article estimates 3 HP for the 150cc Diesel engine. Another 1 HP via electric motor would be then be significant, a 33% increase in total motive power.

As it was put, in a sidebar I missed last week in MCN but saw yesterday (I take a week to read it all), the worlds first two wheel drive scooter.

When you put it like that, and calculate the power deliver, it does becoming interesting.

Wonder if we'll ever get to ride it.

Seems like it ought to have an option for rougher road duty, at least some more aggressively treaded tires.

It reminds me of half of a four wheeler utility vehicle.

I think that 3 HP figure is wrong. I've read ~13 elsewhere, and twice that for the turbo model.

here it is: http://www.gizmag.com/hero-motocorp-turbo-diesel-h ybrid-electric-2wd-motorcycle/30768/

13.5 HP, and 1.3 HP for the optional front hub. Front HP being 10% of rear, based on research about optimal power delivery in two wheel drive motorcycles.

"Research on two-wheel-drive motorcycles done by Yamaha and Ohlins suggests around 10 percent of the rear wheel horsepower is ideal for the front wheel in a two-wheel-drive motorcycle, so the 1.3 hp hub motor seems to reflect that Hero has been keeping up with the Joneses (and Yamahas in this instance)."
