Thank God EBR is no longer affiliated with HD. That's a 500cc tonka toy (and not in a good way).

Like it or not, it's closer to the core Harley customer market than the Blast was. That's almost exactly what I was envisioning in another posting I did last June. http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/348 043/629723.html?1339197046
It looks to be styled by using as many Blast components as possible on a Sportster based tube frame. I'm no fan of the cast peg mounts and rear sub for this style bike, and it needs more chrome, fringe, and lace wheels before MY biker girl will want to ride it, but I actually like the concept. Even made in India, If they can keep the MSRP under six grand to compete with the other entry level bikes, they should sell a bunch of em based on the badge alone.
"Screaming Eagle" fringe handgrips anyone?

Its the new H-D or maybe Hero Blast. Made in/for India.
If Royal Enfield can sell way-underpowered bikes designed in 1955, why can't Harley?
I like it. I want a successor for my former bike, SR500.

That's a little misleading, brother. Not being able to give away a discontinued bike from a discontinued brand is one thing.

The Blast was Buell's best selling bike for the near-decade it was around. It is a very practical entry-level machine.

The Blast is one of very, very few motorcycles out there that a shorter rider (5'0" to 5'4" or so) can comfortably handle right out of the MSF course, as they can flatfoot it (or come very close) with the low seat.

I have no idea what Harley is currently pushing shorter new riders to. Probably the 883 SuperLow with the "And don't try to corner..." warning.

Our Blast still gets ridden more often than the other bikes. It's a great little city bike, especially with a bit of intake & exhaust work.

OK all,

I am sort of a "Blast" expert if there can be one. That frame is a Blast Frame with two down tubes added on. From the picture and what I can see I am willing to bet that the backbone rear mount and remainder of the frame, front forks both wheels, brakes and pegs front and rear are all straight up Blast parts.

My only interest is if the bore stroke and cases are all Blast parts also and if it has fuel injection. It's for "Riders Edge" the motor company made a good sum of money on that bike, while Buell had to take the loss.

Just My Humble Opinion

Douglas

Go the the archives in the Thumper Forum and search for Terry Parsley, buelldyno_guy, or worlds fastest Blast, it' all there somewhere. About the bike, it's a 647 cc long stroke, under square LSR bike. Holding 5 of 8 records in the 650 push rod class. records are with and without body work and in the modified as well as the altered configuration. It makes 80 HP at the rear wheel with 50 lbs of TQ top speed in the modified class with body work is 138.4 MPH. top speed in the new altered class is 126MPH while being stuck in 4th gear. (Shift linkage) issues with the longer wheel base.

That's about it. Remember "LSR is a Blast"

It looks like HD tried to do what it does best, make it heavier make it look like everything they have made since 1970. I wonder if it will get 69 mpg like my blast.

It would be very interesting if it was fuel injected but the photo seems to show the same carb, at least to my eye. Too bad because the carb is the weak point of the blast adding to its oil consumption, warm up time, and factory flat spot.

The Buell losses on each Blast sold is a very important point. It solved, for me at least, the mystery of the blast crushing and financial self inflicted injury of HD's murder of Buell.

I have worked in Corp. America and the impact of the Blast crushing video put in context of Corp Americian culture can not be overblown. He must have known he wasn't just slighting the company or poking it in the eye but kicking it in the balls. He must have known it was over. I'll bet there was some financial reports pressuring Buell right before the crushing was done.

Take a look at this. The first picture is from the article linked above, and below that is an error level analysis of the same picture. The bright pink areas indicate higher levels errors, which is indication of photo manipulation. In laymen terms, the photo is a Blast with some Harley bodwork pasted on top.

I don't wanna talk, I want to see the dang thing built. HD oughta throw a chrome & fringed overkilled one, bags and all, and a bobbed, blacked out version on a couple show turntables just to see what the reaction from the show crowd is. The hardcore may dismiss it, but I'd bet the ladies would love it, and a lower price than the sportster could get the HD name on the tank of a lot more new riders machines.

I don't necessarily want to debate the build or not but am interested in seeing it built. The Mrs. and several of my friends learned on Blasts and I think they fill a niche that is needed. If given the option and I were interested, I would rather buy American.

Sure, let's talk about it some more.

I personally think that the technology used in this rebadged Blast is a little too advanced for Harley Davidson. How will Harley riders know it's a motorcycle if it doesn't weigh 600lbs? We need to figure out how we can add another 500cc's of pointless displacement without breaking the 40 horsepower threshold, at minimum 200 more pounds of unnecessary weight, and then neutralize the braking effectiveness before Harley can begin production.

On the other hand there is an actual USA built motorcycle "M1030M1 JP8/Diesel Military Motorcycle" 95 mpg. Cool green color. Unfortunately I am too old to re-enlist in the military to ride these bikes. I wonder if we will ever see them sold used by uncle sam.

I am not a Photo Shop Guy so who knows, but if the body work has been pasted on and the lower figure shows something I don't understand, what about the cylinder pushrod tubes and head? It sure looks to me like an updated front Sportster head and that make sense. At the start, the blast did not use an XB Head, and all the Blast I have seen use the standard Buell XB push rod tube tubes. If this bike is coming in the new line-up, the original Buell only engine parts will need to be retrofitted with Sportster pieces.

So Let's just wait and see.
