The nice thing about the win was that it was against a WSB spec Ducati 999 piloted by a good rider with close ties to the Ducati factory. We have a ways to go, but the best XBRR lap turned so far was a 1:45.0 in traffic by McWilliams -- and there's a lot of very specific things that can be improved between now and the 200. But it's still a tough battle ahead: Rico's XBRR had almost the same straight away speed as the Ducati he beat; in an earlier practice session, DiSalvo's Yamaha was faster than the Ducati! |

hate to be the one to say it, that was qualifying and not the race. The race is tomorrow.
They also declined the pole because they did not wish to put the RR on the dyno
publicly at this time, It is a hp/weight formula class. I don't blame them.
FWIW McWilliams looked even faster than Crevier when he was running in the team/solo
challenge on Friday. I think the 200 will be a happy time for us Buell fans. |

Just look at the photo of Rico and his XBRR. I can't help but note that poor little stock ZTL disk, nestled there within the magnesium ZTL wheel, not knowing any better. Just doing its job. No one told it that it was supposed to whimper and concede to Ducati's finest, a 999RS, a faster bike, a bike equipped with Superbike dual disk brake setup. Poor silly little ZTL disk. <sigh> It just doesn't know any better.

I think DiSalvo just said that the Daytona 200 is his race to lose...

Great showing, and Anony indicates there's a good bit of tweaking yet to be done. Sounds like some pretty serious potential, there. But that ain't no way to win a race in my book. You don't want those T shirts saying "Ya better not let your visor fog up."
Save some exuberance for the real thing, young fella. |

The problem with the traditional dual-disc is that it produces lots of heat and tends to fog visors. |

I hate to play Devils Advocate, but those races were in CCS. I race in CCS. That's the equivalent of the XBRR beating guys like me that bank roll their own effort.
Most, not all, but most aren't sponsored by anyone or maybe a few small businesses. It's not the AMA. I'm not saying that CCS is not competitive. It is. But we'll still have to see how they do in the AMA. My fear is that if they don't do that well in Daytona, that the excuse from people here will be the Money and sponsor issue as the defense. It goes both ways people. Off to a great start, but in CCS, and I don't mean to offend anyone (including myself) or take away anything from Buell, but they're kind of a big fish in a small pond. I don't have anywhere near $31,000 invested in my WHOLE operation.
I love my Buell and hope they do well. I'd like nothing better than to be at Homecoming this year and see a Buell win. |

Ducati rider Marchetti claims to have slowed down and let Penzkofer's Buell pass him because his visor fogged up as he slowed for slower riders.
Am I the only one that finds this tale a bit hard to believe?
According to the weather channel, it was 65º Saturday afternoon in Daytona.
Ever fog up your visor when it was 65º outside? I haven't.
Maybe Ducati riders have ice water in their veins.
Personally, I have found them to be more likely to be full of hot air!

That's true. Let me ask you this, does Ducati run a "dumbed down" version of the WSB spec Ducati 999 in the CCS races? Say a "watered down" version of the one that Marchetti is accustomed to riding?
Frankly, the "fogged up visor" thing may or may not be accurate. But, if it were me, I'd be so embarrased, at having had the lead and lost it, I'd find a much better excuse. Did the folks on the other WSB spec Ducati 999 offer up reasons for the Buell being faster? |

Where is this information coming from that the Ducati's are WSB spec racers? Form Anonymous? CCS and ASRA have restrictions on bikes. Little to none on 2 Cyl., air cooled. Very restricted on water cooled motors. Ducati 999's are liquid cooled. No real restrictions in Supertwins, but there are in Thunderbike.

My bet is that we may be "reading it into" this statement from Road Racing World.. I, personally, have no idea what it was but am confident that Ducati entered with not once gram less effective hardware than the rules would allow.
To their credit, Ducati did not wimper, whine and run to mamma. . they stayed, fought the good fight and simplt fell victim to a fogged visor. Hey..shit happens.
Frankly, I've listened to so much "Buell doesn't stand a chance against real motorcycles", that I don't need a lot more material to enjoy a good gloat. I'm assuming that Buell was not the only team entered that came prepared to do their best.
In all candor I am just as excited about the XB in 5th place beating the Aprilia. The Aprilia, as has been pointed out time and time again, is no slouch. |

SUPERTWINS - SuperTwins are four stroke, two cylinder motorcycles, which meet the
standards of Section 5, free from all other restrictions. SuperTwins are unlimited in
displacement. (Amateur & Expert Divisions)
According to the rules, the Supertwins are NOT restricted. Unless I missed something. Also the press release says "Dario Marchetti, a former World Superbike regular ......"
I think Rico and Buell have a lot to be proud of. |
