Finally, a nice Polish name on a superbike.

Czysz = "chish"

Not to discount Buell, but I find it rather curious and distressing that we, the USofA, are 20+ years into the superbike age and yet "we" don't make and sell any.

Then again, I don't see the majority of our car products being stellar. There are exceptions, don't get me wrong (Mustang, Corvette, GTO, et' all). But on reflection, I would not be in any hurry to buy a Ford motorcycle (ala Honda, Suzuki, etc. who have multi vehicle development).

I am rather thankful to be alive, of riding age, and physical & financial ability to own an XB. With new, [re]energized Buell fleet, we've finally stepped up to the plate, and with both feet. But it sure took long enough. On the surface, we might easily be viewed as behind the curve, but as everyone comes to understand [the XB's (and it is happening)], I think we might trump "them" in the end.

Ok, I'm wandering into winter, non-riding, existentialism thinking... Counting down... Dec... Jan... Feb...

I think it has more to do with Japan's ability to shift production quickly, spread engineering costs over a larger amount of corp revenue, and the fact that for a very long time, the sole US manufacurer of motorcycles had no interest in building sportbikes

one could rationally argue that the only true market leading sportbikes come from Japan, who worked hard on that market segment, while the rest of the industry foocused on other things

...and the fact that for a very long time, the sole US manufacurer of motorcycles had no interest in building sportbikes...

hehe, I find irony in the possible fact that the only reason they are now anyway is to shore up earnings in lower age bracket sales, they end up doing (in my personal opinion) such a kick-azz job. Think of what could have been accomplished if they had thrown in their backing in earnest that 10 to 20 years earlier.

I don't dwell on it though, because we would not have the Buell that we do now, and that could as easily be worse as better.

Since we're all a big family, thought I'd let you all know that as of a few hours ago, I am a graduate of Kettering University, formerly GMI, with a Bachelors of Science in Mechanical Engineering. Hopefully the first step in a long life of education and work.

I also picked up an XB12R from Dave to celebrate.

I'll be off to John Deere in Dubuque IA in Feb, great start to a career as well.

Bedtime and a huge party tomorrow are on the horizon...

FMJH:

It **appears** not to. There are two differing cables shown in all the parts books I have consulted.

There were actually 3 parts manuals for 1996. There was the original, an update and a 1996/1997 combination. You will recall that this is the same year that Buell did the CD of the service and parts manuals.

I am putting in a photo of a page that was stuffed in one of my books listing some of the early updates to the book, just in case this impacts you. If you can't get an answer let me know and we'll sure find out....

Hi Jim, Stock sportster clutch is the same as the S2 if you are still using the 1in. controls...7/8 controls have a different barrel type end on the cable as opposed to the 1in. loop at the lever...

Too,bad as there was a cheap new one on eBay.I know a Sportster one fits, but the price recently did an "adjustment" and went up astronomically, was about 12.00 now is like 45.00.Guess I'll go aftermarket.

Not sure on ALL years but 94-03..The S2 1in. setup is basically the Sportster 1in. controls..

Jim, I have switched my bikes to 7/8 bars and controls and I have a ton of good clutch cables you could get..Cheap/Cheap..

Dubuque, Iowa - went to College around there - if I remember rightly - one of the facts they are famous for is that they are second only to Munich , Germany in the consumption of Beer - probably why my collage days where always a little foggy - lol - Winter is definately winter there and hitch-hiking in the snow was always risky - but I always got a ride! - lol
