I think that part of the equation was successfully addressed in 1993. You've seen it, you just don't KNOW you've seen it.

Happy Thanksgiving to all.....

and you were all wondering what was going on in the "lost years" between Buell Motor Company and Buell Motorcycle Company

I'm thankful for each and every one of you, including Sean Pepper, and Greg P.

Gee, Im touched: D

Happy Roast day, since thats what we are having instead of turkey.

Didn't José Q. get some measurements on the V-Rod motor. And I recall someone who saw that V-Rod engined test muell on the road, or am I mistaken?

Jose measured it & it will fit & you all know I saw one in Mukwonago on the road. They have several mules but who's to say if they will ever be produced? I'd bet its going to happen eventually, but have no idea on a time frame.

As to the weight of the motor it was reported before that the V-rod motor weighs 15-20 lbs more than the present XB engine. Thats not including radiator, hoses or coolant. So you might be looking at an actual weight gain of 50lbs total. With a 9000+rpm limit & a minimum of 115 rwhp stock thats not a bad trade off. Plus the motor can very easily be made to produce 140-160 reliable hp.

BTW on a somewhat related subject, it was shortly after the 20th anniversary when I saw the bike near Buells old factory..actually their 2nd one which is right off hwy 83 in Mukwonago. They still used it at the time for various "reasons". I went back up their recently & its now in the hands of I believe a woodworking company. Buell no longer has anything to do with that building.

Was that in a tube frame? Or the current XB style frame?

I've tried to get my brother(the one who works in HD's R&D dept) to talk about the Buell projects. But the bastard wont say a word, and just smiles : )

>>> to do so is to sign your own pink slip

That's true. And the policy is quite clear, everybody understands it and it works very well as Mr. Eberle so eloquently demonstrated on day.

How else would you do it? I mean, let's be honest all manufacturers (I am assuming because my only PERSONAL experience is with Honda and Buell) purchase many comnpetitors bikes, swap some engines, peices, poke, prod and whatever. Like it or not, it's part of the "development" process. Don't let the similary between the 1987 Taurus and the Mercedes-Benz slip past.

My best is that Buell has fitted more engines that we could guess into various frames to learn things from simple packaging to road manners.

Trust me when I say...if they didn't want you to see something (Hi Paul !) you wouldn't.

Happy Thanksgiving to all...I just got done telling the story about the legend behind the turkey landing on the roof, coming down the chimney and delivering stuff....

: )

So I have seen somthing I should not have, I know nothing.

"note to Court: remind me to tell you to remind you to tell me sometime" what I have seen so I know what I should'nt know and then once knowing I will know not to talk about it I THINK.

The only thing worse than not knowing is not knowing what it is you actually know.

By the way this Thanks Giving thing you guys do in The US what are you actually giving thanks for in the historical meanning of the holiday.

I'm outta here until next week. My great friend and sorted dapper Englishman, now resident in NYC, is marrying his JAP girlfriend in Devon this weekend. It'll be the first time I've seen them both since I was in NY nearly 2 years ago. It's gonna be a good one.

Happy Turkeys my cross dressing cousins. It's a pleasure to know you all including Blake!

Paul,

I'll let George Washington's words explain it for me...

quote:

It is the duty of all nations to acknowledge the providence of Almighty God to obey his will, to be grateful for his benefits, and humbly to implore his protection and favor.

President George Washington in his Thanksgiving Day proclamation

The root of the celebration of Thanksgiving is traced back to the feast the Pilgrims and local native Americans held in 1621 to celebrate and give thanks to God for a good harvest after their arrival in the New World and after surviving a long harsh Winter.

From the article:

Erik's days of racing made him rethink what it actually was that he was trying to accomplish with the new Buell. He remembered the two-stroke racers as being difficult and even scary at times, whereas his Ducati 900SS was pleasant and forgiving. “Instead of focusing on more and more horsepower, I decided to look at having more fun on the bike. Anybody can get on one of these things and blast it wide open in a straight line, but what happens when you get to the corner? That, for me, is where the fun starts. People criticize the engine sometimes, but for this application it really works best. It's got a nice, smooth power delivery that lets you enjoy the bike instead of worrying about some wild power delivery kicking in.”

Could not sum it up better myself!

Ducati Motor Holding Streamlines the Structure of its Brands

BOLOGNA, Italy, November 26 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Ducati Motor Holding S.p.A. (NYSE: DMH, Borsa Italiana S.p.A: DMH), a leading manufacturer of high performance motorcycles, announced that its Board of Directors decided yesterday to sell the Ducati Corse brand from Ducati Motor Holding to Ducati Corse S.r.l on the same date Ducati Corse Board of Directors decided to purchase the Ducati Corse brand. The transaction will take place by the end of the year.

The main reason for the transaction is to rationalize management of the "Ducati" and "Ducati Corse" brands, allowing each brand to be developed economically as separate entities.

Ducati Corse S.r.l., fully-owned by Ducati Motor Holding S.p.A.(99% directly and 1% indirectly), is focused on the organization and management of the MotoGP and Superbike racing teams, the development and construction of racing bikes, as well as all related promotional activities which aim to increase the Company's presence on the international circuits and enhance its brand image.

The Ducati Corse Brand has been valued at Euro 23 million, and has been calculated on a discounted cash flow of Ducati Corse's brand royalties, related to the use of the brand by licensees and sponsors. The valuation was based on an independent appraisal commissioned by Ducati Motor Holding.

Payment by Ducati Corse S.r.l. will be made within six months of the closing of the transaction, and the Company will finance it with one or more of the following: bank credit, potentially granted by a pledge on the trademark, the sale and lease back of the brand, the factoring of sponsorship agreements signed by Ducati Corse S.r.l.

From a consolidated financial statement point of view, the operation has no financial or economical implications. Ducati Motor Holding S.p.A. will make a one-off gain of Euro 23 million, while Ducati Corse will register the brand as an intangible asset for the same value.

Mr. Federico Minoli, Mr. Enrico D'Onofrio, and Mr. Gianluigi Mengoli, respectively President and CEO, Chief Financial Officer and Technical Director of Ducati Motor Holding are all members of the Board of Directors of Ducati Corse S.r.l., of which Mr. Minoli is also President. Ducati Motor Holding's statutory auditors are the same as those of Ducati Corse.

It should be noted that the operation will not imply, for any of the above-mentioned parties, that objectives will be reached and that subsequent bonuses or benefits will be awarded, that they would otherwise not have been paid.

In addition, as of today, Mr. Minoli owned 500,000 shares in Ducati Motor Holding S.p.A., Mr. D'Onofrio 241,000 shares and Mr. Mengoli 9,000 shares. On the same date, the statutory auditors did not hold any Ducati shares.

This press release is issued in compliance with the Article 66 and the Article 71 bis of CONSOB Regulation for Issuers.

Founded in 1926, Ducati builds racing-inspired motorcycles characterized by unique engine features, innovative design, advanced engineering and overall technical excellence. Ducati has won thirteen of the last fifteen World Superbike Championship titles and more individual victories than the competition put together. The Company produces motorcycles in five market segments which vary in their technical and design features and intended customers: Superbike, Supersport; Monster, Sport Touring and Multistrada. The Company's motorcycles are sold in more than 60 countries worldwide, with a primary focus in the Western European and North American markets. For more information about the Company, please visit our web site at http://www.ducati.com

This press release contains statements that are forward-looking and are subject to a number of risks and uncertainties that could cause actual results to differ materially from those anticipated, as described in documents previously filed by the Company with CONSOB and with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.

Doerman,
There is one glaring omission in that otherwise fairly comprehensive history of Thanksgiving; there is no mention of to whom the Pilgrims were "giving" their "thanks." They also omitted George Washington's proclamation.

I sure am thankful. If I thought there were no God, to whom would I be thankful for life and bounty?

I know! Erik. : )
