Iamike,
Good to hear you made it home safe. Being comfortable going down hill quickly in the mountains is not for everyone. It took me awhile to get there. I first started riding fast in the flatlands while Cheryle learned out here. There are some down hill roads that she is much more comfortable on than I am. What kind of bike does you friend have?

Great pic.

Any ski trips this year?

There is yet another Bueller just heading out of Boston today and going west for a five digit loop of America trip. If you see my brother Scott on the road, give him a wave or offer him a place to stay, he will appreciate it. He is riding an S3 with flat black bodywork contrasted by polished AL just about any place it is visible. He did a 5,000 mile warm-up run last year with no mechanical issues whatsoever, but did watch a small runaway mob of people try to push his bike away in GA one night only to give up after discovering the NY chain. He is not connected to the Net on this trip, but I will try to connect with him every few days and post any problems should they arise, in case there are any fellow Buellers willing and able to assist. He and I bought our 97 S3s together after both owning a 96 S1, but there is no way I could join him on this trip so he is riding solo (I will just have to dream for now).

Factory Recall Question

If I buy a 1999 X1 lightning, and it does not have all the factory recalls done, can I still get them done by the factory?

Yes. Take it to your servicing dealership and their computer can check the recall status of your bike, and they will order the parts for you.

" Buell Customer Service: 1-414-343-8400 "

Your question can best be answered by BCS and by your most local Buell dealership. The answer should be yes, and it probably is a yes, but call anyway as they'll be the ones paying the bill.

Yes, all factory recalls are completely paid for by the factory, parts and labor. Recalls do not expire. If they have not been documented against the VIN, they will be installed by the dealer, and paid for by Buell.

There are some parts you should invest in to save yourself some headaches down the road.

Updated chain tensioner $15

Updated metal rockerbox gaskets, not sure what they cost, but it can't be much.

Updated rear isolators (if you still have your originals, you'll get these as a recall item, otherwise, you should update to the 2001+ version, and they're easy to change on an X1)

and these are just nice to have...

2001+ shifter mechanism

2000+ footpeg springs

2000+ front brake rotor when yours wears out.

Thanks Henrik. The BMW riders that gather at the Motomart Cafe (great little Euro style motorcycle cafe and gathering point) often talk about the great network they have (and they do), but I think Buellers tend to be just as like minded and supportive of each other. If you were riding Buells eight years ago you had to be.

"2001+ shifter mechanism"

Is that the shorter more precise external linkage?

Court has mentioned it started looking for it and spent the next hour and a half showing me a heap of other stuff, but will keep on his case,

Normal in NYC takes on a whole other meaning to most other parts of the world I have seen and Motel-de-Canfield is even more out there at this time.

Hey yeh almost forgot how is the guitar.
Awsome.

Someone did a swap like that, can't recall who, had to remove the fuel pump I think, don't think the carb's like the fuel pump pressure, not sure how they converted from pump to Pingel but it may have involved an adapter plate. Probably no help at all.

You could always add a fuel pressure regulator inline between the pump and carb. Try Jegs or Summit.

Sleez. I would suggest you just find a carbed tank instead of trying to convert a FI tank. Its going to be a big hassle to run a FI tank. there are always carbed tanks on e-bay available for reasonable prices. Heres one that would work:

don't want to go through the hassle of repainting one, but may have to.

thanks

Sleez, I found a way to use my stock FI tank on my X-1 when I converted to carb. But if you are already carb'd, you'd be better of finding a cab'd tank and just repaint. But if it does come down to it, pm me and I'll let you in in the tips and trick of keeping that tank and what all I did to mine.

Jose, Glad to see you back home and that the new v-rod is home as well.

I have seen the Buell tractor-trailer (I wonder what wonders are inside.)

Great music.
Dyno drags.
And I, when not on the S3, will be escorting a bevy of HOOTERS Girls to, ahem, promote.

Come visit!!!! Wings are on me for any Badwebbers!

Jose,

What's up with Buell sales these days?

Over the weekend I heard that SB HD and Ventura HD have both dropped Buell bikes, parts and accessories (don't know if this is true or not).

But that's the word on the street around here.

Just curious to see what's up.
