Looks like a nice day tomorrow, so I will head from Michigan on the S3 to East Troy to tour the plant Thursday morning. Anyone know a good hotel in the area?

Wish I was going with Alex to Newfoundland.

"...to East Troy to tour the plant Thursday morning."

Is this part of The MilwaukeeRally apparently going on this weekend? Or is there some other event taking place at the Buell factory? I thought they only did tours in E.T. for certain events, but what do I know.

There are several hotels and motels in the area around East Troy. If you have any trouble finding one then check at the west end of Brookfield where I-94 and hwy-18 intersect near the intersection of Bluemound and Barker roads. There are several hotels/motels in that area like a Motel6, SelectInn, and others.

According to the receptionist at Buell, factory tours are being given again. No special events going on at Buell, just wanted to take advantage of some decent weather and ride. Thanks MikeJ and Court for the info.

Dan, your Buell collection proves your wife loves you more than my wife loves me. She puts her foot down at 3 bikes.

Shotgun,
My wife tolerates my obsession, she doesn't encourage it. The fact that I make approx. $4000 a year teaching motorcycle safety in addition to my regular job also helps calm her down. In reality motorcycles do not cost us any money since I make more than the cost in extra pay. At least thats the logic I have used on her!!

But in all honesty my wife is one very special woman. And the yellow blast and the pocket bike are hers!!

Admin Announcement

BadWeB will be taken offline at 8 PM EDT this evening (about three hours from the time of this post).

We are getting a brand new bigger faster server and a new/upgraded operating system. The site should be back online by 11PM or tomorrow morning at the latest.

Thanks to all for making BadWeB such a great and interesting place for Buell enthusiasts online.

Cheers,

Blake

Jumping from 1/2 GB to 1 GB RAM and from 2GHz to 3GHz processor. Should make a significant difference. Next step will be two servers, one for the database and one for internet server.

I need to do some more marketing. The bills are mounting.

Funny you should say that, Pete (Torqer) and I are working on SMHD/Buell to be a sponsor. So far they've been real supportive of all our suggestions.
Good work here Blake, hats off to you and all the Admin type folks that have the thanklessness type work that goes into a project such as this.
I keeps getting bigger doesn't it?
I've noticed a lot of new names in the short time I've been around. BadWeB has been a big help to me and others.
Thanks!

Blake do you find with a single large processor you get excessive vibration and are unable to handle high RPM usage? Personally, I prefer 2 processors, of smaller displacement. I've tried the 4 processor inline configuration, and found that at high RPM loads it outperforms the twin, but for overall usage the twin processor configuration delivers the best low to mid usage grunt.
Just curious. Computers are a hobby of mine.
You still using that commie free software? : D

Free software? Don't think we've ever used free software.

I'm not the sysadmin and am far from knowledgeable on computers/servers. But yes, traffic and processor demands are pushing the limit of our server at some points during the day. The new higher speed processor and additional RAM should cover us for another year or so.

Thanks Glitch!

Let's see, as of this moment...

We have 4,976 registered users,

are pushing out over 50 GB/mo consisting of answering over 2 million individual page requests/mo comprising a total of over 6 million hits/mo.

The operating system you are running under (linux) is free software, as is the web server (apache) your BBS software uses.

Free as in speech (you can modify it or do most anything you want with it), and free as in beer (as in you don't have to pay for it). It is actually copyrighted, but the only right reserved is the right to keep anyone from reserving any rights on it.

There are actually various GNU utilities and facilities in use for your operating system, but I try to avoid mentioning them because the authors are for the most part annoying primadonnas, and its fun to tweak them by calling "Linux" the name "Linux" instead of "Gnu/Linux". Long story...

: ) that's gonna get me another death threat : )

Reep, just threaten them in return with a 9V battery and some paperclips. If nothing else, it'll give you time to run!

...I'll second Glitch - it doesn't get said enough, but to everyone that makes BadWeb possible - thanks and great job!

I can't find this info in the KV, anyone know which primary gasket is best? I here talk of the paper one vs the metal one. I need to replace the gasket on the S1.

5,000 registered users $10 / year subscription = $50,000 per year.
5,000 registered users at $50 / year subscription = $250,000 per year.
Then you can start using some real computer power.
I for one would not complain at a subscription and I think it's about time you considered it.
