Found a great website...
http://www.pashnit.com

Hootowl, go to the bottom of the Pashnit home page, type in "Lake Isabella" and hit the SEARCH button.

the first five roads that come up -- Kennedy Meadows (via 9200-foot Sherman Pass), Breckenridge, Caliente-Bodfish Rd. (the Lion's Trail), Hwy. 155 (the Ben Bostrom Hwy.), and Hwy. 190 (the Mighty 190/Western Divide Hwy.) -- all begin at the end of my driveway.

welcome to Ferrisville :)

That doesn't suck.

Hoot, we need to pry you away from Texas and get you back out here to the coast for a coupla weeks, say for AMA/WSB at Laguna Seca, Four-Play, SPLASH (you could revisit your Favorite Ride whilst in the 'hood), and AfterGlow.

now THAT wouldn't suck. :)

You wouldn't have to pry me away. I'm looking for an excuse to go back. I love the west coast (hate the left coast politics). Spent a few years in San Diego during my stint in the navy. Didn't have the X1 at the time (1996) I was putting around on an 83 shadow 500, but I was still beating my buddies on their 600's in the canyons. (See, it IS the rider!) I made that bike do things Mr Honda would have never dreamed of. Flat out rode the piss out of it. Aww, I'm getting all nostalgic. I traded it to the Bent Bike 50K miles later (where I bought it years earlier) for a rain suit and a pair of gloves.

Ferris,
those are some great roads out your way. Maybe me and my baby will have to come out there for a romp on the roads after I get it back and broken in.

Hoot, you should have at least driven down to Woodland on Friday and partied at Horseshoe Lake with us. sorry we missed you. :(

Bartimus, you're welcome here at the 'Dome anytime. the pix and write ups on Pashnit are cool, but they don't begin to do this area justice. :)

For those who thought the last Cycle World comparison featuring the XB12S was "uncomplimentary", get your pencils/pens/fingers ready to write after you read the next issue of Motorcyclist.....

Jose, they should have subtitled it 'Bustin the Buell'

Actually, I read the whole article and in the end, I'm not sure that they should have even included the XB. It was the same old whine about the motor, the finicky suspension set up. It's not like they haven't had track time or road time on the XB12 and were surprised, more like they were looking for a public forum to do some more whipping with. It's like Buell is the Rodney Dangerfield of motorcyles..."hey, I can't get no respect..."

Ferris,
I did try to work it in, but I spent most of the time in Sequim with kids and their g'pa and g'ma. No time to break away.

Randy, geez, it's been forever! i THINK the last time we rode together was one of the Border Raids up in Canada? or maybe Old Highway 40 Motorcycle Days at Donner? anyway, it's great to see your name pop up on here. where ya been??? :)

Hoot, Sequim ain't a bad place to hang out, for sure, and it woulda been a plenty gnarly drive from there for you just to come play with us for a bit on Friday.

still, wish i'd known you were in the area. after SPLASH i hung around Kitsap County for three days (Port Orchard, Bremerton, Poulsbo) visiting family, and i would have enjoyed a sprint out the Olympic Peninsula to meet a fellow BADWEBian :)

When converting an 883 to a 1200 it has been suggested to me that I could just bore out the existing 883 cylinders. The question is, is there any down side to doing this... instead of just getting new 1200 jugs?

Did you go to the bakery in Poulsbo? It's a regular stop for me (used to live in Silverdale)

Jimjib,
Make sure you use an experienced shop and they have torque plates for the job. The upside is the cost savings, the downside is if they screw it up.

Have 'em put in PigTails while they're at it.

I was under the impression that the 883 jugs just have thicker sleeves in them. If that's the case, I don't see why you can't bore them out.

btw, my brother Doug is part-owner of Liberty Bay Auto Center there in Poulsbo if any of your family up that way is ever in the market for a good used car.

The one thing I cant sacrifice is dependability as I am going to be way out in the boonies with this thing and I dont want to be walking.
I am also told that boring gives you a better piston fit.....which sounds more like marketing hype to me.

Here is an article I have been looking at. Which shop and conversion would you choose?

You don't need adj push rods and I never felt the need for cams (I bought a 101HP Buell when I got to that point <IMG SRC="> )

I would order new jugs, gasket set, KeithBlack pistons with Total Seal rings and do it myself. (Assumming I already had the SE aircleaner and CycleShack ie original SE slipons plus an SE or Spyke ignition)

The after-sales support and labor warranty is the most important, so check with locals as to the best shop.

Jose read the first couple sentence's and walked away.It just seems like if its not made in Japan it's no good. They didn't have much good to say about the Ducati either it seemed.Maybe I'll read it later.

Dana...Don't let it bother you. You are an individualist like the rest of us Buellers. Heck, if you didn't like the attention, you wouldn't have bought another Buell.

The one guy called it the "worst bike he had ever rode"
Called the engine a "lump"

Yeah, whatever.
Of course they loved the KTM
What an ugly motorcycle that thing is.

Ride to the edge!
I still like my Buell!

I swear if you compare the most current to the very first article ever written about a Buell, you will see a common plot, theme or whatever. Nice thing is at least in the last year or so the motojournalists are tossing some kind words all having to do with in Erik's ingenuity. Then they go back to beating a dead horse (the powertrain) and even that is getting better as time progresses.

Hi Dave,

Long time since I've gotten around. I know its been since earrrrly spring when I came out and rode the B-trax you had and all the other great stuff but I still have not got that video which myself and a few others prepaid for. If by chance you could help in this matter it would be greatly appreciated. Sam are you still waiting too?

Thanks Ryan
