My M2 started doing that, ran real rough for 2-20 miles, then would clear up, ran like it had water in the gas or something. Whacked and twisted the sidestand switch wires and the problem went away.
Could also be a stuck tank breather line ball or pinched vent line.

Danny, I had the same exact problem on my M-2. I was going home one weekend from college on it, it started sputtering and backfiring once in awhile. I stopped and topped her off, when I put it and gear and let out the clutch, it would shut off. I ended up taking the bottom of a chew can, folding it over as a kind of spacer, and putting it between the kickstand, and the switch. It worked, I managed to get home with no problems. When I checked the price the other weekend at the local dealership, the switch ran like $30 bucks. I am going to see if I can just skip the switch and direct wire it.

RenoH, MikeJ just put out some 'good-stuff.' He's right and I got a pro-rated refund on my 2001 FLSTF (breathing on everything and knew the warranty was useless) just by asking my dealer. They asked for not one thing? I believe you're getting jerked around a bit. Maybe one of our dealer types will jump in and spread some enlightenment for all to see? Don't submit fraudulent receipts -- bad news.

It took about 6 weeks and got a check in the mail -- it was about $600.00 I think? I was gone and the loving wife spent it for me ;)

Good luck and please do let us know how this turns out.

Thanks for the response MikeJ, but on the registration form section #6, which they kindly pointed out to me, "it is necessary to perform the recommended maintenance and retain verifiable receipts showing the dates and mileages the services were performed. Failure to produce will result such receipts will result in cancellation of this guarantee and it shall be completely void." This is directly from the terms and conditions so I am kind of in a pickle here. I have gotten all the receipts form my dealer that were linked to my account, but I have also purchased at various dealers that just sold to me as a cash sale, so I have no way to get those copies. Hence asking for help on this forum and others.

I may try to call the original dealer and see if they can offer any help in getting this resolved.

If the guarantee is void then the refundable portion comes into play and all unused funds due should be payable immediately. They may have just catch-22'd themselves. Any legal eagles about care to look into this?

I think I'll call down and get a current status on mine and ask specifically about this issue.

Reno,
Goodnews/badnews: Apparently there was some little registration postcard that was supposed to be filled out and mailed in by the buyer that the dealer was supposedly not allowed to fill out for the buyer, this card was also supposed to be mailed in by the buyer and not the customer. If this postcard was not filled out and is not on record then apparently there is not a Money Back Guarantee on the warranty.

They are checking to see if one is on record for me. If not then the world will know about it.

I'll let you know. I've specifically avoided using the warranty for the piddly stuff such as the speedo sensors specifically for this reason. If what I was told by various employees at the dealership does not remain valid then I will have a little sitdown with the owners and get the matter resolved in short order.

Mikej,

I also avoided using the warranty for the same reason. I remember getting the card and sending it in. I also think that if they try to deny your claim on the money back, then they should be willing to reimburse you for all those repairs that you didn't use on the warranty. That is if you have your maintenance receipts of course. I called HD of Edison in NJ where I bought the X1 and I am waiting for a call back from one of the girls in the financing/warranty department. I'll let you know how it goes on my end.

JQ,
That is frighteningly impressive growth. I'm wondering though if there might be some factor involved other than consumer demand that might account for such a HUGE increase in sales of Triumph bikes for August thru October 2003 compared to the same period in 2002? Curious that the press release doesn't report the number of units sold. That might reveal the bigger picture.

I sure am glad to see Triumph doing well. They appear to have firmly re-established themselves as a world class contender in the street bike motorcycle market.

Thanks for posting the link.

All my work/parts/supplies receipts are resurrected and in the file cabinet thanks partly to a demand from a questionable insurance company and mostly thanks to Jen at Hal's. If it comes down to needing documentation then I should be covered, and if so it will be the last Warranty I add on to something.

Do you need the actual physical receipts, or would a personal service record log suffice, complete with dates and work performed and mileage at time of service (if you get what I'm hinting at)? Apart from that I'm thinking one receipt for two cases of oil and one case of filters should do it. The rest of the service items would mostly be labor and inspection as would be noted in an owner's logbook.

Also, if your bike has had any Recall work done on it, like the rear shock for example, that would have been a good time for a dealership to do a goodwill service for you as well, as for their service records for Recall work you've had done. If the authorized shops don't have the records, then have them re-write one with all the work that was done at the time the recalled item was corrected.

Wierd Triumph news there. The head guy in the US and 3 sales people left about a month ago. Hard to believe 46% growth wouldn't get those guys a bonus. Oh the joys of corporate life.

You're right Mike. Most of it is inspections and labor. But according to the terms, you must provide the receipts as well. All the recall work was done and I have those records as they were able to re-print them for me. It's the cash purchases that aren't linked to my name at the dealer here in Reno that I need. Still waiting for a call back from the original dealers warranty person, will update later on our discussion.

WarrantyShit:
This is lovely, apparently 5 out of 6 people did not send in their "Money Back Guarantee" paperwork, and this figure is apparently common nationwide, which to me sounds like a major communication error on the part of the dealerships staff members and could become possible class action fodder should someone have the resources to pursue the matter.
As explained to me:
1. The paperwork for the money back guarantee had to be sent in by the customer. If the dealership sent it in then the money back guarantee was invalid.
2. The paperwork was supposed to be sent in with the original warranty paperwork. So if the paperwork was lost in the mail or misfiled someplace along the way then not only is the money back guarantee invalid, now the customer does not have their original paperwork to prove any claims with.
3. The refund of any remaining portions is a refund of the unused portion of the time remaining, and has nothing to do with the money back guarantee refund amount. So if the customer went in with 3.5 years left on a 7 year contract they would be entitled to 50%, but if they wait another 6 months then they will get back less than 50%.
4. The dealership claims no responsibility in their lack of communication of any matters in this. If while checking for the available refund amount, if the customer does not specifically ask if their money back guarantee is valid then apparently the warranty people and the dealership have no responsibility to tell the customer about it.
Right about now I'm feeling a little knee to neck deep in scheisterville. The matter has been escalated to dealership upper management for a fair resolution.

From now on I'll take the damn thing in for any little thing it needs to determine if it would/will be covered under warranty. And if so I will get that in writing before any chargable work is performed. Amazing how a goodwill feeling can get totally changed when a customer gets screwed by a third party vendor of services and guarantees.

If anything changes today I will follow up, but right now I think my speedo sensor is failing on my perfectly stock Buell M2, and my participation in the recent Buell "events" would not have caused that.

Right about now that Triumph is starting to look real good.

Ebear and others.
That ad for the xb looks a lot like an ad about a week ago on Ebay for a S3T. User reg in UK. Bike in NY. Low low price. Must get preapproved, etc,
After the listing was over I received this message from the supposed seller:

"Ad was placed fraudulently in my name. I have no idea what an S3T Buell is! Sorry this individual has wasted your time as well as mine."

There are lots of scams on Ebay. Be careful.

Re Ebay scams.

I have been taken advantage of (quality of parts not as represented) on both Ebay as well as at this site.

I have given up purchasing used unless I can physically inspect the part in advance.

It's not worth the money saved.

YMMV.

Ebay email to me a day later:

Hello John,

Thanks for writing to us. I appreciate the chance to help you with your
questions.

This Seller has become "not a registered user," and it is up to you
whether or not you decide to complete the transaction. However, eBay
does not suggest completing a transaction with an unregistered Seller
because of the potential for problems.

This seller is also attempting to sell you this item outside of eBay
which is is violation of our policies. We strongly recommend that you do
not go ahead with this sale.

Thanks again for writing, and thank you for being part of the eBay
community.

It’s been an exciting and busy month here at American Sport Bike. Always keeping the customer in mind, there is no other aftermarket parts store that offers you as much as we do with a showroom, website, complete on-line ordering store, full catalog, extensive parts selection, years of knowledge and great service.

Its official, the long wait for our Volume #6 Catalog is over!!! For those of you who ordered a catalog, be sure to check your mailbox because it’s on its way. Also make sure you take a look at the special sale flyer included and take advantage of our Holiday Season gift to you.

If you haven’t ordered one, get yours today. Volume 6 is filled with a lot of new items that you’ll love. There is a $5 refundable charge.

Stock Sucks!!! As we all know, the factory is limited on what they can do on both intake and exhaust because of federal regulatory guidelines. Well, because we know that you all ride your bikes on closed circuit courses, we’ve made it possible for you to scoot around the track even faster with our intake and exhaust systems. Speaking of performance enhancements, we have a question for you…….
What XB owner wouldn’t want more horsepower?
We can provide it with our Carbon Fiber Cold Inducted Air Tank/Intake Cover (#9006 C.I.A.). 2.8 HP on the Dyno-that’s what you can add to the rear wheel when you install this part on your XB9 (fits 12’s also)

Just a reminder, Tat will be in the Bay Area for American Sport BikeN’s 5th Anniversary, so if you want to save on freight and need him to bring you parts, just let us know.

December is the season for giving. American Sport Bike has gift certificates and fills “Wish List’ orders (call for details). Let’s close out the year with lots of parts being delivered to your doorstep.

Hey Dad,

Thanx for the past couple letters you've sent. The one with messages from BADWEB was definitely encouraging. I graduated basic!!! Passed all my tests and am now a soldier. Tomorrow we begin MP reports, tactical vehicle training, and urban combat training. I'm so ready to get done, and go to Korea, but I still have a few more things to learn.

Take care and keep writing --
