Chris Dolan, an avid bike collector from San Diego, bought that RS 1200. He now owns a RR and an RS. As well as about 50 other bikes! Bastad!!

Blake, Congrats! Nice tale...

Court! The sidewalk is NOT a part of the road (at least not in this country).

Meanwhile, I'm incredibly curious, how quickly are the new 12 series Buells moving out of showrooms? Anyone know?

Sweet bikes. I personally would prefer a less varied color scheme, but dang those are nice bikes...

Depends on the location. Some dealers have em flying off the floor & cant keep em in stock. others have em sitting & collecting dust. Right now it seems to be location & job market driven. In the areas that are being hit harder by job loss & the fear of potential job loss the sales appear to be down.

personally if you are in the market for a Buell I would hold out for a bit. You are going to be very very suprised with whats sitting in a certain non descript ex factory here in wisconsin.

I dunno Dyna - they haven't even been able to keep them in stock at DP in SF where charging 5g's more over msrp is common and the 9's hung forever. I think they have a hit on their hands - lol.

Dark_ninja: Yes, you need to use glue but you need to clean all traces of oil off the surfaces first. First use a small amount of laquer thinner to cut the oil, then use denatured alcohol to remove the laquer thinner. Best glue is the rubber cement-type stuff that's used to glue auto door seals on. Comes in yellow and black. It's messy. Use the black.

Court, that is the classic answer one would expect from an Engineer. It is concise, accurate, direct and in no way answers the question.

Dyna, "you must share with us....."

"Resistance is futile".

>>> classic answer

Liked that didja?

I, to be concise, DO NOT know. But you do not have to be a rocket scientist (apologies in advance to Blake) to figure out if Iowa can't keep them in stock, they are doing something right.

In addition, the reviews (and bear in mind many journalists were predisposed to belt Buell in the corporate chops <<also see: Louis Rukeyser: Bureaucrats hates success - circa 1969>>, have uniformly been enthusiastic.

I have no idea and I'm willing to bet that Dave Gess doesn't either, what's in store; that's by design. But, I assure you that had I adhered to the "wait to buy your Buell" logic in 1990 (I broke down and bought after 2 years of drooling over RR's) I'd have missed most the favorite bikes I've ever ridden.

My logic...but the Buell, enjoy the experience, but another Buell...REPEAT PROCESS. Each and everyone has thrilled and amazed in a special and unique way.

I've sold 6 of the 12s so far.
I'll be getting 2 more this month and have prospects on both of them.

It's just that I have 2 daughter's preparing to go to college. So much for the new Buell budget...

I bear good tidings oh like minded mortals...the joy-to-age ratio of a Buell does not include the variable "newness" in the eqatiocity.

Ever notice how those most bit by the bug, regardless of what or how many they own, are powerless to resist acquiring or retaining an S-2 Thunderbolt.

There are among our numbers even those who have foregone for the time being their Buells and still emulate the joy of Buell by riding a _______ whilst harboring fond memories of their Buells.

Buell appears as a motorcycles only to the small of mind. To those who know, tis a state of mind.

I've a weakness for indulging my 2 sons, both seniors, and no complaints about being "stuck" with a 1995 S-2.

Can you say..MAXIMUM SATISFACTION?

Why? Work-study and loans work great. Nice long payoff with low rates.

Josh,
Read the news. Most graduating college students have very little job prospects and there doesn't appear to be a rainbow in sight. Taking out $60,000 in student loans now, how are you going to re-pay it later?? Work study? Yea right, most kids feel Mommy and Daddy should pay for everything. Why should they work?

>Taking out $60,000 in student loans now, how are you going to re-pay it later??

Stay in school. No repayment until you leave school. 'Course if you have no job prospects, why go to school? What I'm seeing up here is the few jobs avail go to people with degrees.

At any rate, since there are typically only a handful for scholarships for the 30,000 kids at the university, a grant or scholarship is more likely.

Apparantly your whole point is to get kids into the military, yet these are the same kids you refer to with "Why should they work?" which, if true, sure won't lead them to the military.

Josh,
Point---counterpoint

Maybe if there parents told them they were going to have to find their own way to pay for college their motivation would be different?

I'm not saying that everyone should join the military but I just see too many kids that are being given everything by their parents. Most of them turn out to feel everything should be given to them by the government, their employers, spouses, etc.. The "entitlement generation" is what I refer to HS grads of the new milenium.

Also,
Those few jobs that are going to the ones with degrees. How much do those jobs pay? New lawyers are lucky to land a $40,000 a year position. Of course you must start re-paying your loans at that time which leaves you what???

Court, I never said the S2 was for sale. Or trade. I just thought an XB12S or 9S might look awfully nice along side the S2 in the garage. I do like those bikes.. ;)

I am one of those people who worked his way through college paying for everything on my own. I've essentially been on my own since graduating high school.

Knowing how difficult that was for me, it has always been a goal of mine to be able to provide a reasonable college education for my children. I don't know if they'll appreciate, I sure hope they do.

I'd be worried most just wouldn't go. It takes more that telling them when their seniors that you won't pay for college to motivate.

>How much do those jobs pay?

Better yet - which ones pay more. I know lots of people whose degrees cost the same as mine yet a Journalism or Mass Comm degree means you'll more likely be asking "Would you like fries with that."

Salary.com has interesting stats (but biased since they sell/resell training)
