Philly is back in Philly - Newark SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!
I'll have pics up on my website later tomorrow or so - great time on the salt, FMJ backed up his record run with a 173! today, the supermodel did 80! on the Triumph this AM to back up a record run, and then I left Wendover's airspace and couldn't get 1610 AM anymore, so I don't know what else happened.
Most confusing moment of the weekend: when I ran to the Carquest auto parts store to try to find a replacement fuel pump for FMJ's tubo S2. The guy at the counter asked me what the fuel pump was from and I said "a turbo Buell" <IMG SRC=">
He tried to cross-reference part #s, and check the book, and finally he just let me go back into the shelves and rip open damn near every box on the shelf until I found one that would work. The only one I found pumped 16 psi, so a return run to the salt was in order to verify that would work, and then back to the parts store to pick it up. I walked into the parts store on the second trip, waved at the guy and headed straight back behind the counter to the parts shelves, verified the pump was the right one, paid, and left. They looked VERY confused. Not to mention the customer standing at the counter that couldn't figure out why I was allowed to just walk behind the counter and open up a bunch of boxes then grab the one I wanted. DagNabbit, HE had to wait for the guy to look it up on the computer!!!
peace out
philly

OK, I have to know, what happened at the starting line? Is Richard OK? Can we give him crap about it?

FMJ & Bartimus, Thanks for the tips, guys. The front isolator wasn't bad at all once I got the 3 bolts loose.

2 questions:

1. The FSM didn't say to use Loctite on the bolts, so I did not (it does say that for the rear isolator though). ???

2. I didn't have enough hands to hold a crescent wrench on the top nut while torquing from underneath (and reading the torque, duh). So I just made the bolt as tight as I could with a ratchet and a Johnson bar (seemed reasonable, since it took a lot of persuasion to get it to come loose). Now I've only got about 1/8" of thread showing through the top of the nut, and I can't budge it any more. Is that adequate?

TIA.

Jim

Al,

Spidy had the same problem. We had to use a cobalt ( with the purple rainbow finish) bit to drill the hole for the combo drill/easyout thing he got at Sears. Titanium just got dull. If you need to contact him, don't expect a prompt reply, he is in the hospital due to a crash today.

Thanks Bill.

I spoke with Don at Modesto Buell today. He said that they've done a number of them, and that it should be easy enough to drill out the bad bolt with the engine in place, after removing the other bolt and engine mount, of course.

He indicated to drill it out with successively larger bits, and to use this style of Easy out:

easy out

Serious Change Of Subject Here:

How fast does a Y2K Buell M2 go in second gear? I.E., what does 5,800 rpm equal in second gear?

Thank you, Ray

Now, back to your previously scheduled program:

Yet another Buell rider using non factory parts to get along...

Wruffus:
I'm surprised that you got a Sears easyout to take that bolt out. Most of them that I've used have broken. That Hanson one looks like a quality piece though. I have a box full of bolts with broken easy outs in the head.

Jim_SB,
I used a box end wrench on top, which wedged against the frame and allowed me to tighten the bottom with the torque wrench.

I wanna say its somewhere around 72 mph. I am not 100% positive on that tho. Hopefully one of the math experts here can figure it out.

"Green acres is the place to be
Farm living is the life for me
Land spreading out,
so far and wide
Keep Manhattan,
just give me that countryside.

New York
is where I'd rather stay
I get allergic smelling hay
I just adore a penthouse view
Darling, I love you,
but give me Park Avenue.

The Chores

The Stores

Fresh air

Times Square

You are my wife. Goodbye city life.

Green Acres, we are there!"

...

Speaking of Zsa Zsa, has she slapped any officers lately????? <IMG SRC=">

Figured I'd better come back and fix the lyrics. Found on http://www.maggiore.net/greenacres/gatheme.asp . Okay, I'll exile myself for a few minutes for posting all that, Charlotte and Henrik made me do it. We should make them both sing a duet next time they are in the same place together. bye, ducking and running out of here for a bit

Mikej, you evidently suffer from a profound case of Gabor confusion. The Gabor sister that starred with Eddie Albert in Green Acres was Eva, not Zsa Zsa. Eva is dead now. Zsa Zsa is ancient but still considers herself royalty. There was a third sister but I can never remember her name.

I told some kids wandering by the pits that Chop's scooter was covered in Angora, like the sweaters, and it grows - when the fur was put on it was a crew cut, and he has to cut it or it wraps around the wheels and get's caught. One guy actually bought it! "Cool - so you have to like, trim it?"

Comments overheard during the weekend:
Choptop (see above) "It's ugly, but it's slow"

Young punks wandering pits upon seeing Steve's white XB "Wow, I want one of those!"

Someone near the starting line "There sure is a lot of Buells here"
