Dyna,

That is the ugliest paint job I have ever seen on a bike! How could someone do that to a perfectly good Buell?

Also,

Are we going to see Court in East Troy this week??? I will be sure to bring my jogging shoes so I can get away quickly when I spot him...

Rocket, have you seen the new fazer 600?

if they could get that body work around the big one, there'd be a bike (even if the swingarm is decidely plain compared to the rest of it)

The Great Street Squid
Taxonomy:
Via Architeuthis (The Great Street Squid)
Habitats:
Local bike shops, street corners, backroads (With no curves)
Coloring:
Bright, loud, obnoxious. Commonly the male of the species has multiple anodized bike parts that match the coloration of the rest of the bike. Colors may vary, but are generally offensive to the eye.
Locomotion:
Most often seen on a large bore bike with tires in poor condition. (In the center, the sides are most often unused.) Can be seen quickly accelerating in a straight line. This species seems to have great trouble with negotiating turns. Current theory seems to lean towards the possibility that the cognitive time/space abilities are not fully developed. Either that or a lack-o-skill. Tests are being done to fully explore the divergent theories.
Growth & Reproduction:
The growth of the male of the species seems to be arrested around the 12th year of life. This can be seen quite clearly when observing the critter in it's favorite habitat....a motorcycle speed shop. The obvious posturing and crowing are for the purposes of determining relative ranking within the pack. (Silimar to a wolf pack...only wolves don't squeak.)
Reproduction:
let's hope not.
Adaptations:
Custom paintjobs on the vehicle of choice and helmet.
Race takeoff tires
The standard 'No Fear' decals to make said vehicle go faster. (Good for 10+mph)
T-shirt & Shorts
Short lifespan
Feeding:
Fast food
High Octane gas

My guess is its fur textured... It's the latest rage w/the squidly's... for real!.... seen a couple of these guys rolling around my area w/this aberration....

Stubby,

SQUID is an acronym for Squirrelly Immature and Dangerous... Not to pigeon hole here.. But I will... These are the guys that usually start a group ride on public roads that escalate to the danger zone real quick.... The Pack mentality takes over and common sense goes out the window.... If you want to go nuts go to a track day...

Recently a friend brought by my house the 2004 Buell sales brochure. There I saw this picture of the XB12 with bodywork removed. I could not but imagine a street fighter with a tiny leather bicycle type seat and taking advantage of the fuel-in-the-frame, no gas tank.

If then, a thorough Nallinization of the power train is added, a unique and superb street fighter would emerge.

One of the roots of the squid joke is the actual fish squid. They move by filling their body with water, and squirting it out. If you watch them, they go like hell in a straight line, come to an almost complete stop, point a different direction, and then go like hell again.

Me and a local buddy have developed the "T" index for squids.

Teva's (sandals) (1 "T" point)
Tank Top (2 "T" points)
Temp Tag (2 "T" points)

You'd be suprised how many "5 pointers" we spot.

Stolen from NYC Cycles, which stole it from the BMW Owner's of Georgia list who stole it from the Ducati list. It was then posted and lifted from the Bad Weather Bikers BBS.

"I found a small reference to Squids in a Dungeons and Dragons book. The Squid is a beast with extremely high speed and maneuverability, but low intelligence, low hit points, low experience and low offensive capability. The Squid is largely dismissed as an endangered species with little danger to an average warrior. In fact, because of its high speed, low armor and low hit probability, Squids are primarily a danger to themselves and their mates, although Squids accidentally kill themselves at a ratio of more than 10 to 1 over their mates. The breed is largely alive due to a male creature called the ‘High School Student’ which can morph into a Squid, thereby continuing the species as Squids rarely live to reproduce.

“The Squid's only serious offensive capability is the ‘Crash’ during which the Squid rams its opponent, primarily a creature called the ‘Car.’ However, the Crash is almost always fatal to the Squid and rarely does more than a few hit points of damage to the Car. Squids have been known to use the Crash against a related and more vulnerable species called the ‘Enthusiast.’ Most Enthusiasts simply avoid the Squid as a defensive maneuver. The more serious danger to the Enthusiast is a Squid's only other offensive capability, which is a rudimentary magic spell called the ‘Pass.’ The Pass causes a decrease in intelligence and an increase in speed for the duration of the spell. The Pass causes the Enthusiast to behave as a Squid for a brief but dangerous period of time and can cause a ‘Crash’ which is almost always fatal. Italian Enthusiasts are very vulnerable to the Pass, while American and German Enthusiasts are virtually invulnerable due to a defense called the ‘Leather Jacket of Indifference.’ The Pass is most effective against other Squids or Japanese Enthusiasts. However, a new breed of Enthusiast called the ‘Buell’ is as vulnerable as the Italian Enthusiast to the Pass."

Tony Rocket I wasn't refering to the Z1000 or the 919.

I know you weren't, I was.

Kwak is supposed to drop the present 750 Superbike engine into a naked frame like the Z1000's it should be interesting since the 750 is a much better engine than the bored out 9r engine in the Z1000.

Sorry to disappoint you Tony but Kawasaki are dropping the 750 motor in favour of a re-engineered 636 motor bored to 750. The naked Z750 will not feature the cool looking twin\four exhaust pipes of the Z1000 nor will it have the 1000's upside down forks.

BTW a Gixxer 1000 motor in a naked bike would be interesting but given the width of Gixxer motors probably a bit cumbersome

You're kidding right? The GSXR motors have been the weapon of choice for Streetfighters for years. Wide compared to what, a V twin?

Jim, those Fazer's are a tad boring in my book, sorry.

Jose, after reading your post this one's for you

Best of British

I know of this bike through Streetfighters magazine's hard back book 'Extreme Streetfighter Motorbikes the Ultimate Collection' by Frank Allman and Simon Everett ISBN 1-84193-035-0. A nice book it has to be said. So Jose you just wasted nearly 2 hours of my night trawling the net looking for pic's of this magnificent Harley. Hope it was worth it. Check out the link.

Yes, there are quite a few and they are leaving showrooms without delay. I know at least one fellow (an interesting person in Buell history) who will be riding his to the factory on Wednesday.

GUITARS: If you are ever in NYC on Monday night, DO NOT MISS Les Paul playing at the Iridium. The guy is nothing short of incredible and I don't need to tell you that his two sidemen are pretty accomplished as well.

My oldest son, a guitar player, and I went again recently and sat at the edge of the stage. My arm was literally sitting on/near Les's foot as it tapped.

Truly...a living legend not only for his playing but for the technology he gave us.

My wife said they call 'em squids because of how they look on the pavement...
Like a squid outta water...

Court: Is there...will there be...when will we...
know just how fast the new 12s are moving out the showrooms? This has got to be some sort of record. The friends of mine that said they'd buy one if it (XB9) had more power, can't, they're all gone...this is too cool!

Hmmm... The Squids execute the pass, and the Buell is at risk? What is the best defense? The inside line? Spew oil? Wave 'em on by? I have seen some like that. The locals at Deckers, Colorado, call them the "100 mile-an-hour guys".

On the subject of the ubiquitous "squid".
Follow link to actual footage of squid captured on film in its natural habitat. This classic video clip just about says it all. Man can they rip through the gears, but they apparently cannot turn, nor do they see well.

Ah yes, right foot down coming into view, left foot down getting ready to turn right as he panics and clamps the front brake and runs into and takes out the rider in front of him sending his bike into a stoppie-in-the-bushes and his friend down and out.

For sales projections I'd be watching the Harley corporate site under their investor's section. And listen to any statements WillieG and the Chromites make at the 100th festivities. There is bound to be some event projection promotion going on for investors. And a lot of the attendees at the 100th are riding in on their investments. "Not that there's anything wrong with that".
