Well the Buell community has come through in a pinch, once again! Last night on my way to FL I had a front motor mount finally give up the ghost. After a few phone calls I was able to find one in the Nashville area, I wish to thank one of the Dealers for setting one "aside" for a late pick up. I also want to thank DAve for getting me names off the RAN for Buelligans in the Nashville area.

My huge thanks goes out to Scott H. for comming to my rescue. He turned his garage, house, and truck over to me to help get me back on the road. Unfortunatly, one of the bolts broke off in the head, otherwise I would be writing this from FL instead of Indiana. Oh yeah, two of our die-hard Buelligans also came up with some very rapid technical advise, but they wish to remain anon.

Time for the flip side run back to "Music City".

Later, Neil S.

Oh to be Buell-less, I should get Passion's engine back next Tuesday and I'll pull Stripe'r's head this weekend and get the offending remanents removed on Monday.

I have been looking around and ran into this Buell for sale, does somebody know the story behind the 1 of 6 made? I'm just real curious. T.I.A.

Looks like an M2, probably an M2-Low. The undershock looks odd or linked or strutted or set up for drag racing.

There is no such thing as an "H2", at least not publically known.

I'd suggest contacting the seller and requesting documentation on the 1of6, or at least get clarification on it. A factory custom inplies something else entirely. Ask if it has a clear title? Ask how the owner came to be the owner.

Jim_sb,

Pretty setup. Except for those purple things. Stupid prejudice, I know, but that Lyc. O-540 in the Maule never coughed once all the way to TBO, leak-down still in the low 70’s, governor twisted up an extra 150 rpm (Shhhh!), no cowl flaps and lots of dead-stick approaches, and enough mild aerobatics (Shhhh, again!) to screw up a couple sets of gyro instruments.

Your A-36 is of course a wonderful bird. They did put the tail wheel in the wrong place, but at least they got the tail feathers sorted out properly.

But now you’re going to make me go find a picture of one of those 450 hp Allison-powered Maules.

Bomber, you sniveler! It’s supposed to be breezy up there! Hang on just a little while longer and we’ll send up your daily tot of Rhum.

Henrick,

Workin’ on it. Delayed my departure to the western Pacific for a couple of months so I could drive a buddy’s shark long-liner for the duration of the July 1st opening. Estimates are that the quota will be met around Sept. 15th, which would work out perfectly. Unfortunately, we took her out for a short sea trial last Sunday and managed to blow up her 12-liter Volvo diesel engine. Now I’m going to miss the first couple weeks of the season while we get that sorted out, and that’s two weeks of all those other guys catching my share. I’ve had the pump working for the last couple of weeks, collecting information from both dragger captains and bottom-fishing captains that I’ve known for years, and I know where all the sharks are today. Two weeks from now, it’ll all be different.

But at least I’ll start out with a fresh engine. This fishery is regulated, and trip size is limited to 4000 pounds. If you get right, 10,000-pound sets are not unheard of, but you can only take 4000 pounds to the dock at a time. So a fast boat is helpful. This one should run around 16 kts. loaded, but that’s hooked up, so a fresh engine is a good thing.

And please leave you-know-who out of this. (I might want to bring what’s-her-name this time.)

Very funny, Court! If you're going to be putting a new engine in your Buell every six months, you sure can't afford to be flying around in any damned airplane!

And one more thing: I've got a bill for the Salt Peter fund, but I'm not sending it until you've met the quota for the ticket. I want this to go toward his working capital so he can afford to buy me a beer in Bendover.

Capt. Pete

Well it was an exhaust leak, and the rocker box was leaking around the allen nut, the washer was wacky. I'm not bummed about missing aday of riding, I think I may ride to Austin on the 8th through the 11th. I have an athlete getting recognized for the all state team. So it should be fun.

Pete, you'll get a beer. No problem :)

Two sides to every story
Her side: He was in an odd mood Saturday night. We planned to meet at a pub for a drink. I spent the afternoon shopping with the girls and I thought it might have been my fault because I was a bit later than I promised, but he didn't say anything about it. The conversation was very slow going so I thought  we would go off somewhere more intimate so we could talk more privately. We went to this restaurant and he was STILL acting a bit funny; tried to cheer him up and started to wonder whether it was me or something else. I asked him, and he said no. But I wasn't really sure. So anyway, in the car on the way back home, I said that I loved him deeply and he just put his arm around me. I didn't know what the hell that meant because you know he didn't say it back or anything; this is really worrying me. We finally got back home and I was wondering if he was going to leave me! So I tried to get him to talk but he just switched on the TV, and sat with a distant look in his eyes that seemed to say that it was all over between us. Reluctantly, I said I was going to go to bed. Then after 10 minutes, he joined me and to my surprise he responded to my advances and we made love. But he still seemed really distracted, so afterwards I just wanted to confront him but I just cried myself to sleep. I don't know what to do anymore, I mean, I really think he's seeing someone else and that my life is a disaster.
His side: Australia lost the cricket. Got a f... though!

Al, I think you have confirmed my suspicion that the surface of the rear pulley tooth engagement area is what is at fault, and yes its a Joker rear pulley that I'm using (matches the pattern of the PM wheels). So I guess its time to get the die-grinder and Dremel out and painstakingly smooth out all of the rough areas on the pulley.

Laps, FWIW some belt drive company (I'm thinking BDL but I can't remember for sure) used to warn people as part of their advertising that many of the aftermarket pulleys out there would chew up belts, and of course theirs wouldn't because of the special way they cut the teeth or something.

Peter,
My gut hurts. That was great. ROFLMAO

Interesting event here in Kilgore. Not 35 minutes ago the house gave a bit of a shake and a sound kinda like thunder but different made itself known. The sound was more like a loud powerful yet distant "KAWHUMP". Michele just called on her way home from Longview and said that three miles up the road north of our home there is a HUGE fire, masses of police and firemen and a HUGE cloud of black smoke with continued hurt-your-ears-loud booming explosions. Developing...

:( This really sucks. Lamb Entertainment (5 acres, pyrotechnics/fireworks business) has blown up and continues to blow up. As many as three dead. Angela, the wife of my good friend Keith Thrash (Skully) works in the office there. She caught some some glass in her hand, but is unbelievably otherwise unhurt. This is an explosion that was felt at least three miles away, she was right there and is relatively unhurt. Police are evacuating the entire area, about equivalent to four city blocks square. She told Keith that she thought three of the guys might be dead. I was just getting to know Joe Lamb, the owner. He was thinking of buying my dad's Gold Wing and we had talked about riding to Arkansas or the hill country. My mother worked there in the office this past Winter/Spring, just handing the job off to Angela in May when they (mom and dad) headed to NY for the Summer.

This sucks.

I've got one just like it without the PM wheels for sale for a hell of a lot less. The orange frame was an extra option but other than that I don't know why it is 1 of 6. I'd even sign the tank for you and call it a 1 0f 1 signature series.

S1joel,
Sounds like a heck of a deal.... Maybe throw in a matching signed helmet and it might be worth a couple thousand more, hehe. I was kind of thinking that it might be 1 of 6 from a certain dealership or something like that. The term "Factory custom" never has sounded right to me.

Thanks JM. The news just reported that 8 homes and 4 businesses were destroyed or rendered uninhabitable. Three good men and a dog are dead. Definitely puts a damper on the Independence day celebration this year. God bless Marvin Lamb and his friends. I stayed away from the site today out of respect. Will see if I can visit the site tomorrow to get some pictures.

Stupid prejudice, I know, but that Lyc. O-540 in the Maule never coughed once all the way to TBO, leak-down still in the low 70’s

Capt. Pete, my old Piper Arrow III had the Lycoming IO-360(?) 200hp engine. Good engine. Hard to start when hot, but well sorted.

Our Continental IO-520 is nearing TBO and has been solid as well. Compression 72 - 78 / 80 in all cylinders, and it has fuel specifics that are much better than those in the IO-540. We see 165 KTAS on 13.5 - 14 gph regularly at 2300rpm. The only real knock is we had the dreaded crankcase crack 12 years ago. Repaired it at great expense. Now we've developed another at the opposite end of the engine so we may forego the last 100 hours and swap it out. We shall see.

But now you’re going to make me go find a picture of one of those 450 hp Allison-powered Maules
I've seen it! But if I were lusting after an aircraft a Malibu would suit me nicely.

Jim_SB,

That’s the neat thing about airplanes. No one machine will do it all for you. Consequently, a man needs at least three of them in his stable.

As far as the lust department goes, my choice (for #1) is a Beaver on amphibs. (Just a little less $ than your Malibu.) That would be my fishin’ plane.

#2 would be an Extra 200, just for fun.

And #3, for getting’ about (along with a few friends – and their Buells) would be a DC-3.

Hmmm. That list is pretty heavy on round engines and tail wheels. I think I need a 4th for getting’ there in a hurry. Better add a Mig 16 camera ship (2-place – just in case I want to bring an ex along) or an F-86 in the same configuration.

Man, it’s fun to dream, ain’t it?

But, about our little controversy: Want to spend a few hours wringing out your Pitts S2B, chasing that trophy? You’ll be sittin’ behind a Lyc. AEIO-540.

C P
