OK to recap since my last post on this ride coming up. We're still looking for one or two or more riders wanting to ride the shit outta WV/VA mountain roads for 5 days with us.


MITM (Meet In The Middle) VA 2003


When: Sunday July 13th through Friday July 18th


Where: Warm Springs, VA near Roanoke VA and the Blue Ridge Parkway at the beautiful Meadow Lane Lodge. I have reserved The Granary (MITM HQ) and The Car Barn.

Why: We're right on Rt 39 which is just an amazing mountain road and we're close to the BRP and other super WV and VA roads.


Cost: $200 for lodging including a full country breakfast (this is a b&b) for all 5 nights or you can work with me if you wanna come out for 1 or 2 nights (see below).

HELP!!!!
I just got off the phone with Corbin and they said I cannot put the 99 model seat on my 98 S3. Even though I have the 99 stock seat on now, Problem is the paint under the seat is bad. Anyone know who else sells a GOOD seat for my S3???

I'm officially no longer a Bueller. The M2 was picked up yesterday. I was very sad...for about 30 seconds. Now I'm down to the Beemer so I'll have to treat it nice.

Next up after the dust settles? Maybe a Honda 954RR or Aprilia Mille...I want less than 450 lbs and more than 120HP next time around...anything less is just not worth the hassle.

What does the paint under the seat have to do with the seat? Did they say why the 99 seat would not fit the 98? They do nice work, but they're not the brightest bulb in the bunch at times (based only on what I've observed at various events where they had a booth or trailer set up at).

Are you talking about the paint on the gastank that is sometimes rubbed by the later style wrap-arounds of the front of the newer seats?

It's the cheesy colors and color accents and the goofy pipes (that don't work anyway) and the fact that it's another "do-it-all OK/do nothing great" kinda bike. Why waste time and money? For less money, a more honest bike would be a ZRX1200R.

Stubby, Fatslow; sorry, but as I've preached many times before - Corbin *SUCKS*. Service is non-existent, and product has gone downhill fast for years now. Off the soap box

Fatslow; do you need a backrest? If you're just looking for improved comfort, you can peel off the stock cover and reshape the seat. For even better result insert a Pro Pad - medium size. I did that on my '99 S3 seat and increase comfort mileage to beyond 500 miles/day.

I love my Corbin seats but Henrik is right about customer service sucks. The new design seat WILL fit on a 98 S3. Their folks onlyread off the screens and have very little real knowledge I'm afraid.

Why would an all purpose bike being ridden on the street be more of a poser bike then a racebike being ridden on the street?

On the street, the traffic laws, lack of corner workers, lack of prepared track surfaces, and lack of (non racing) traffic control mean you will never approach anywhere near the bikes performance potential anyway... at least not for long.

I can't count the number of guys that obviously have no business being on a motorcycle that come up to me "I'm gonna get me one of those bikes, you know, those racer ones. The suzukis, arent they called GS's or something?". And whenever I read the sportbike forums, the people asking obviously newbie questions like "should I use the back brake in a turn" or "how come my tires are completely worn out in the middle and not even scuffed anywhere else" are inevitably on R1/ R6 /GSXR /F4i's.

If I see a guy on a Kawasaki ZR7, BMW sportish bike, Buell, Aprilla, Ducatti, etc... Based on first hand experience I assume these guys or gals probably know what they are doing until they prove to me otherwise. If I see somebody on a SV-650, I assume they are either a very good rider, or a serious and careful beginner that may not be super fast but is in very good control.

If I see somebody on a Japanese repli-racer sportbike, my assumption (based on experience) is that they are lousy riders and dangerous to be near posers until they prove to me otherwise.

:) If I see somebody on a 450cc or larger single cylinder dual sport tooling along the twisties, I get ready to have my ass handed to me on a platter through the next group of turns. :)

Thats not to say every semi-exotic rider is some kind of pro, and every japanese repli-racer rider is a squid, you can tell pretty quick the exceptions just by watching them for a short while. But in my experience the posers are far more likely to be on bikes like a GSXR-1000 or R1 then on a naked Kawasaki.

It remains to be seen where the Z1000 and SV1000 fall, and if they attract the poser squids, or serious motorcyclists. They have points that would appeal to both groups, though I don't think they have enough plastic to attract the squids. I will have to wait until I run into a few riders and start to observe a trend.

And I don't want it to sound like I have anything against even the squids, they are great fun to watch... from a safe distance anyway.

My exact feelings on that as well. Los the lil Z is a pretty cool bike. Its size is right along the lines of the XB's but it packs over 120 horsies to the rear. I dont like the pipes or the weird little red puck things on the motor but thats what the aftermarket is for. Havent ridden one...yet..but I have sat on 1 at the show & at my local dealer & it actually feels pretty good..small but good. Certainly no worse than my X1 in the ergo dept.

And there is no way in hell that bike is a poser bike, it falls right in line with the SV's the FZ1, the ZRX & the 919. All extremely competant bikes that you will not see posers on.

who cares if posers ride the bike? blow past them and laugh hard. The Z1000 looks nothing short of awesome!

Especially when you let Muzzy's fix the exhaust issues

Those missing the "New Messages" utility...

It is now included within the general "Search" utility.

The Search Utility also now includes the capability to specify a date range along with any key word searches.

Those taking advantage of the BBS email notification can now choose specific subtopics, so instead of receiving email notifications from ALL the Storm Fronts groups/subtopics, you can now specify which individual group/topic in the Storm Fronts family for which you wish to receive email notification.

I'm still hoping to be able to recover our original "Registered" dates, but that info will soon disappear from posts anyway. I don't like all the extraneous info like post number, username (it's already displayed), and registered date. Everyone's comments here are equally valid and I don't really care how many posts one might have or how long ago someone may have registered. The little code under the username may stay though. Maybe someone, someday will decipher it. :]

It's the motivation behind the purchase...that's where poseurism starts. Tell me why a Z1000 vs a ZRX1200R or even an SV1000S...

Dyna I know...I'm just *ucking with these guys. I wanna get to the bottom of this which is that we're all posers to some extent but purity of function cannot be denied. The Z1000 is not purity of function...too many poser trinkets tacked on and not enough substance. I woulda been happier with a ZX12R with no bodywork a la Tuono. Even the FZ1 is closer to the mark.

Dyna: The Z1000 is a small bike? Really? If you say it's close in size to a XB I'll believe you but it looks pretty big in pictures.

Carlost: The bike mag tests all seem to be pretty high on the SV1000. Monster mid range punch and sharp handleing don't equal milquetoast.

Ray, the Z1000 is very tiny. I think the XB is still a bit smaller tho. Its not just wheelbase, its the entire overall feel of the bike, narrow & minimalist.

Thanks blake. yeah I was there...haven't gotten the T-shirt yet...I miss my Buell...desperately...I have been jonesing for a bike since I got home 2 days ago...the roads are so designed for motorcycles...I hope y'all won't mind a buell owning non buell riding poster.

im new to this place, and im not sure where to put this but ill try here. i just bought a 2000 S3 a month ago, in that month i put on d&d slip-on, race ecm, and race air box. Now im a little worried, i have yet to have the dealer hook up the scanalyzer and reset tps etc... now with all these things on the bike it coughs on occasion when revving and seem to run weird when around 2500 rpm. and when you gas it from 2500 it sputers. im worried that when i get the tps taken care of, that it may not solve the problem and i am now, or could be running too lean.

Not sure about the S3, but the Buell custom seat for the M2 is darn good.
