Anybody tried putting the new isolators (L0504.9 & L0505.9) on an S2? We tried and couldn't make them work. I ordered some for my bike but haven't tried toinstall them yet.

Success? Failure? Tips or Tricks?

Boese, I have had multiple experiences there!! My dad works for HD in York PA, I have ridden with many Harley riders, but it is a bitch when we have to wait to roll out so they can get the bugs off their chrome!!
Here at college, I put 311 miles on my M-2L, in just 3 days, of checking out the back roads. Attempted to ride with some crotch rockets, we went .2 mile to Taco Bell, .7 mile to gas station, 1 mile to ice cream parlor. Took us over an hour to accomplish this. They are more about the looks, trying to hook up with girls. Look like a bunch of Power Rangers running around with matching clothes, riding high horsepower machines that have bald spots in the center of the tires since they are too chicken to actually ride the things.
The best ride I have had since being here at school was with a 22 yearold farm boy with a 69 Triumph, bought it for only 700 bucks! He rode the hell outta it, scraping all kinds of shit in the corners.
I love my Buell, its the first most people here at school have seen, and hell I have 2 guys wanting my help to find them one.
I dont really like crotch rockets much, had a friend killed on one, another almost died, I saved him from bleeding to death. I'm happy with my Buell, has not let me down yet, I can ride it for hours without my back hurting or my balls going numb, and no matter how hard I ride it, it always brings me back.
Now about the women thing, I dont seem to have a problem...

@dynarider : its like I said, i think it is just that it seems it is too small of a bike for me. I mean I knew I was going to have to compromise ( but I am used to that ) but I didnt think it would look so bad.
I am 6'9" or 6'10" somewhere around there and I guess I am just not meant to ride a bike. Unless some custom made chopper ...

@stingaroo and the women thing : Well it might just be me :-)


I like riding it and I it really is one of the few things I enjoy, but lets face it, if you look like an "elephant riding a unicycle" or "gorilla f**kin a football" it kinda takes the fun out of it.

Tell the 2 guys you know an X1 for sale, we will talk about commision later :-)

You ever think about stretching and reworking the seat and handlebars on your X1?

You WAY bigger than me, but I've found that a set of clip-ons and a custom seat go a long way to helping adapt my 6'-3" frame to a '97 Cyclone.

Send the engine off and have it worked over by Cycle-Rama, it will fit you fine. :D

I have the widest handlebars there are on the market. 840 mm !!!!!!! And how would a seat help`?? havent considered that yet ? I know rear sets would have opened my knee angle a bit ( that is the main problem when riding ! ) but the seat ?? please define .

We do know HD, Buell and Industry 651+cc registrations back to 1998 for the US, Europe and Asia, and you can find that HERE

These numbers do not include the Blast for Buell and all the 650cc or less sportbikes that the Japanese companies sell by the bunches.

The MCN numbers I posted earlier include the Blast in the totals and dirt bikes and 600 cc sportbikes for everybody else.

Court, I did not compare Buell to BMW, Elvis and JimSB named them as a target in terms of unit sales.

I just tried to point out to them that for Buell to sell BMW type numbers in the US, they would have to quit selling bikes everywhere else because Buell only projects shipping 12,500 units world wide this year. BMW makes 80 thousand bikes a year and sells about 12 thousand of them in the US.

But I will say this about BMW, "Race on Sunday, Sell on Monday" worked for them, they say so themselves when describing their 2002 sales.

I was at a local SCA event saturday next door to a BMW dealer. After packing my armor up, I wandered over (in 11th century Viking garb) to check out the bikes. Neat toys, some of em, I had to stifle a laugh at a salesman's comment to prospective buyer, "this one's only $10,000" Salesman comes up to me & after telling me some trick looking thing is the best handling bike in the world, finds out I have a Buell, and really really wants to try it, practically jumping up & down to get me to trade a ride on my M2L for a spin on a race replica...

Jim,

I did buy a BMW in September to supplement my S!-W. I got the R-1100S and have been very happy with it. The one I got was $11,990 and is the Boxer Cup Prep Bike. It is a great high-speed tourer as well as being pretty good in the twisty bits. It, like my Buell, has handling capabilities beyond my personal capabilities(or at least my nerve) but is a very capable motorcycle. If you get one, you will surely like it.

I'm getting to be an old fart, so I'm looking at the beemers for touring purposes. I haven't done my homework yet, but I know I'll end up with either a K1200GT or the R1150RT. I've ridden both bikes as well as the R1100S. I plan on doing some major lengthy tours in the summers since I'm retired now and the BMW's seem to be the right option for me. BTW, know any "good" discussion boards for beemers?

I wasn’t gonna post this, for fear of getting all preachy, but I find that I have to get it off my chest . . .. .

Got a commo from a non-riding buddy (who used to ride long ago) asking if solid wheels on a bike (i.e., Fat Boy) could contribute to a motorcycle accident in extremely windy conditions . . . .. .

I told him there were two camps, one agreeing that they pose significant barriers to wind flow, and another that maintains that they have no effect (I added that I had not seen physics to prove either point of view – Blake, you got any thing on this?).

It seems his brother in law had an accident on a cloverleaf riding his Fat Boy (new to him two months ago, which means he had less than ten hours on it), and the Police were offering the solid wheels and wind (20-25mph, gusting to 35) as a possible reason for the accident . . . . .

I looked at the site, constant radius cloverleaf, and found the spot where the wind had caused him to alter his line enough to dig in a peg (or floorboard, I’m not sure what he had on there), lowside, and spin the scoot into a retaining wall . . . .. . . all at approx 25mph . . . not much of a get-off, really.

Low hours on a new bike, extreme wind conditions, fairly new rider . . . .. .

His ONLY injury, sole, as in no others, was a crushed skull from the impact with the retaining wall. No helmet (a nice one sitting in the hall closet) . . . ..

The guy was, no doubt, a poster boy for the “lifestyle” gig . . . . new leather vest, jeans, engineer boots, t-shirt, ya da ya da ya da . . . . .and enjoyed himself greatly, I’m told.

His choice, while allowing him to cleave to his template of a “biker,” has cost his wife her husband, his 9 and 5 year old kids their Dad . . . . and so on.

Please gear up, and ride within your limits. Tell someone you love that you love em.

You are confirming that we don't have any comprehensive, detailed data on registrations. Since the XB's were just being put onto boats in May of 2002, any logical analysis of registrations would need to start no sooner than June 2002. If we can see a registration report that covers Q3, Q4 of 2002 and Q1, Q2 2003, we could start to do a real analysis. In absence of that information we have to use the limited information that we have.

Shipments are up . . . way up. Registrations for a year in which bikes were only being sold for half the year kept pace with previous full years.

I see nothing but extremely positive news for Buell. I will wait to pop the champagne until we have more complete numbers. I think you should also hold off on funeral arrangements until you have more complete numbers.

Your general attitude of "this is how Buell should be doing things" just seems to ignore the fact that they are doing pretty damn well without taking your advice.

The fact that they can even be roughly compared to a company that is as established as BMW in any sense at this point in their existence is flat out amazing.

You are one of the brighter people on these boards, and the information you post is invalueable, however, I would be able to stomach some of your posts better if you prefaced them by saying: "Buell is doing great, but I think they could do even better by . . ."

I'm sorry to hear about your friends brother in law. We all take risks everyday. This married man, with two young children, made the choice not to wear a helmet. Unfortunate for him it cost him his life. From what you descibed, I seriously don't think the wind was the cause of the accident.

I have friends who take the MSF Experienced Rider course every spring to "tune up" for the riding season. I'm up for taking the course again.

riding back East from the Buell-ganza in Sept/Oct I crossed SD and Minnesota in a steady 30 mph crosswind (big cold front from Canada) on my S2, with gusts higher than that. I leaned left the entire time, and when I went under an underpass, and the wind would abate, the gust as I exited the other side was a "bit of a rush" :)
aside from the fatigue I experienced from constantly tacking against the wind and the temps. in the high 30s that I wasn't prepared for, I didn't have any significant stability problems, and I was doing 85+ nearly the entire time.
My S2 has PM wheels on it, not solid by any stretch but they have some surface area to them.
My girlfriends mom asked her if I would stop riding if we got married/had kids, or if she would try to make me stop. She said no, because then he wouldn't be the guy she married. But I always dress for the fall, not matter what the season.
Very sorry to hear about your friends bro-in-law. Too many guys want to be "bikers" instead of wanting to become "old bikers" I think.

When I went to put new Isolators on my S2 last year I was told the new style DONT fit....Old style still availiable...went on REAL easy...hope this helps.

As Jose said twas I who made the Beemer comparo statement. Said comment was made only to be indicative of Buell's level of penetration and acceptance in the American marketplace.

As for competition, I'd be hard pressed to say Buell is per se in competition with any other specific brand. Buell marches to their own beat, they do it their way. Which is pretty much different than what the "others" have been doing.

Either way, I like mine and am keeping it. No complaints. No worries. Ride on.
