Aw Court, you're the greatest! But I already ordered a roll from Aerostitch. I have two helmets to do, so I figured I might need a roll of my own. Thank you for your kind offer, Court.

Brake question. I have a 1998 S1W. I have recently noticed more travel in the front brake lever than I have had before. The pads are pretty new. What other than pads wearing would cause this? Thanks......

worn master cylinder?

more data would help diagnose the difficulty

Budo,
What Bomber said, though I would bleed the brakes before trying to diagnose anything else.

Budo: How old is the brake fluid? Flush that first, bleed thoroughly, and if that doesn't solve the problem, look for another answer.

Discussion of brake problems might be valuable to put in the Knowledge Vault? C'mon guys, help an old BBS admin out here will you? Let's keep the good stuff for posterity. Like it asks at the top of this page, please post any technical questions to the Knowledge Vault. Help in this regard will be much appreciated.

As another year comes and goes, we would like to wish you all a very happy and prosperous new year filled with friends, family and of course….a lot of ride time. To start the year off right, we’ve added more new parts. In the tube frame tradition, we have now added steering dampers for the XB9R and XB9S models. With a short wheel base and a steep rake, this will certainly help stabilize your ride with imperfect conditions. These clamp on steering dampers are easily adjustable with 16 positions. We will be posting pictures on the web site next week. Part # 9050, $319. Also available for the XB9R and XB9S bikes are Penske Shocks available for $795 in the 8100 series, $1025 in the 8600 series and $1150 in the 8700 series.

Just a reminder that ASB’s show bikes are still up for grabs. Please call for details or information. Serious inquiries only, please.

I asked on 12/26 how to lube my cables (01 M2, 93 FXR) with this new cool can of cable lube and didn't get a response. (If I haven't been 86ed from this site yet I'll ask again: which cables should be lubed and how should I do it?)

Thank you and Happy New Year.

(I've been 86ed from worse, you know)

Clutch, throttle & idle cables should all be lubed. You can either buy a cable oiler syringe which is easy to use & needs no explanation, or they sell a device I have seen in magazines that somehow clamps around the end of your cable & works as a funnel of some type. Or you can pull the cables off at your controls & tie a plastic baggie around it & fill it up with yopur preferred lubricant & ket gravity do its job. Some folks say to use regular motor oil, but I dont like that as it tends to thicken up in cold weather & makes the cables rather stiff.

I just use the syringe deal withever lubricant that comes in it. Works great for me.

Fogcity - I've used a product called "Cable Life" and it came with a clamp on thing that forces the oil into the outer cover of the cable. When I use this product I free up some cable from the housing - clamp the aluminum thing around the cable and the housing, big end over the housing, and shoot some of the oil into the hole in the side of the aluminum clamp deal, which forces it down the cable. Seems to work fine.

The 2003 BattleTrax schedule sucks. I'm betting the "2003 Buell BattleTrax Champions" won't be from the east coast with only two events. Any takers?

Dyna,
They ought to run the state championships just like last year, then take the top two riders from each and have a shootout at the end of the season. Just my two cents worth...(Hoping I don't piss off Reg)

I think the state deals will be the same way this year. And I agree that your idea would be cool.
Looks like I will be running in a different class this year. Last year I took 2nd overall in the X1/XB class, but since the Buell is down/no more/outta commission/etc, looks like I will be competeing on my Dyna. Little more paranoid about going down on that bike, too many cubic $$$ invested right now:D

Ara, My wife bought some cool stickers for her skid lid on E-bay. The stickers are black and match the paint (solid black), in the day you can't see them but at night, (reflecting light), they are white. The come in cool shapes and you put on the ones you want. Many colors to choose. I'll find out which E-bay location she found them. Something arround ten bucks.

Rick- you should have snail mail.
Adam- you too should have snail mail.

Ferris is one of the original BattleTraxers. He knows the rules. He and I have seen everything from a Yamaha RD400 with clapped out shocks and forks, to a Boss Hoss V8 run BattleTrax. The RD was pretty fast the Boss Hoss was pretty slow.

If anyone's in need of some stock front pads for a '97 (don't know what other years they'll fit), let me know. They'll be cheap! I got them for half price when a dealer in VA (Waugh's, I think) went out of business. Too bad my S3 is a '98 (they shipped the wrong ones)!
