Aaron: you blew me away when i met you in Taos, New Mexico a couple years back. in all the years i've ridden, i can count on one finger all the people i've tossed the keys to MY bike to and said "Flog it 'til it hurts".

putting the whip to your FXR that day (hey, wait a minute, wasn't that SUSAN'S FXR??? :) ) was a treat, and a little glimpse into what fuels your particular fire.

on top of that, you were as friendly and casual and warm and genuine as anybody i've ever met.

Bonneville: so you go pretty fast on a Buell, big deal. it's not like you've come up with the cure for cancer or something.

well, it IS a big deal.

what you, and Richard, and Wes, and team Elves, and BADWEB, have done is SO much more than "just" go fast. your dream, your desire, your vision, your dedication, your persistence, your professionalism, your care, your concern, your friendship, your compassion, your determination, your humility and your humanity have touched people around the world, and joined the hands and hearts of motorcycle enthusiasts who otherwise would never have had the tremendously great fortune to be a part of this very special family.

yeah, yeah, i know i'm being dramatic.

rightly so, i'd say.

you've made people -- some of whom you've yet to even meet -- giddy with joy, tearful with emotion and bursting at the seams with the pride that comes from not only talking the talk, but walking the walk.

i know, because i'm one of them.

the fact that you are so gracious and humble at this point doesn't surprise me, nor anyone else who knows you. the fact that you're giving US so much of the credit for what you've accomplished is not surprising, either.

thank YOU. not only for what you've done, but for how you've done it.

i am so proud to be able to say these words.

Congratulations, Team Elves!

Pammy gloat? No way!

It's really amazing (and wonderful) that so many had an opportunity to participate in some way, sharing in the fun and glory. Way to go!

Everyone should be proud. It was a team effort. we got here by building on the success of the past, and everyone who so much as purchased a patch or cheered for us along the way helped this program.

Richard and me

Richard getting awards

The 200 club folks tracked him down and showered him with gifts. They also took his picture to record his ugly mug in the official book.

They also got MPS-PG 1650cc with an average speed of 192mph.

They're fast, no question. Brian is a sharp cookie.

Okay, last one, I promise (as all the guys on dial-up reach for their weapons).

timing slip

This was the backup pass, done in the opposite direction. They don't give 1/4 speeds in this direction.

Unfortunately, we don't have a picture of the 208 timing slip. It just got lost in the shuffle. You see, we turned it in when we went to impound to claim the pass. It was late, we were the last ones to run and it was about 6:30pm. Knowing we'd have very limited time to prep the bike for the following morning's backup pass, I let the guys take the bike without me and I went to the trailer to start refilling nitrous bottles. The officials took the timing slip of course.

The next morning, after the little motor problem kept us from backing up, we all just spaced the idea of going to retrieve the slip.

Oh well, we'll get TWO next year. Each will have a bigger number, too!

The BadWeather Conundrum -

On May 21, 2002, the California BRAG, a ride rife with Badweather members, passed thru Porterville California during Day 3 of the ride. Point of interest...the last time measurable rain fell in Porterville, CA was (drum roll) May 21, 2002.

This begs the question: Which came first, the BadWeatherRiders or the bad weather?

Not to mention the question: Should the drought continue, would the State of California pay the BadWeatherRiders to come back for another ride?

Unfortunately Dino...that was way back when we rode Buells at sub-sonic speeds. I fear, that at 208+ we'd not be there long enough to do much good......:)

TEAM ELVES announced in a hastily called press conference that their banner entry for the 2003 season will be in the SFC-FN class at The Bonneville Salt Flats.

The event is expected to draw thousands from far away lands as FERRIS BUELLER becomes the first Buellist to compete in the SFC-FN class.

The class, owing in part to it's very nature, has attracted little attention unitl the Elves, who go after everything with vigor and resolve, were able to draft Bueller to compete.

PH-LFC is racer tech nonmenclature that denotes the class and type of vehicle, in this case

Bueller was unavailable for comment at press time.

Aaron,

It appears from the SCTA results, that team Perkins Performance failed to backup their MPS-PG run. The only record showing for them is the M-PG one, very impressive at 178.387 mph.

They list their bike as a HD. Is it not using a Buell frame?

Oh, they backed up their MPS-PG run, I saw them do it. The speed was 193. On Friday afternoon, piggybacked on Al Teague's FIA backup pass.

That M-PG record was the first one he took. I believe he qualified on Wednesay and backed it up on Thursday, if memory serves. Then he put the RR fairing on (yes it's a Sportster) and classed it in MPS-PG. Trust me, I was there. What they put on the web site isn't always right.

I suspect they relisted the Thursday M-PG record in Sunday's results because that's when they did the teardown and got certified. But then you'd think they woulda also certified and listed the MPS-PG record they set on Friday. Unless perhaps they busted'em on taping their fork stanchions. Or maybe it's just an omission or maybe they set another record on Sunday and SCTA accidentally reported the previous record, I've seen many mistakes on those daily results updates in the past.

Whatever, I don't really know or care, it doesn't really matter to me. We did what we went there to do, nothing anyone else may have done can change that.

So taping the forks violates the MPS rules?

So next year? Ram air intake? Dual carbs? 1650cc MPS-PG? 200+ mph :D

I'd be willing to help.

I was just catching up on back posts and read the one about Brian Perkins bike not being backed by S&S,if it was not he sure has some dough as that big ass trailer had some mighty fancy equipment in it--reminded me of a NASCAR rig.
