Blake, the big bore Buells make the same noise I get from the two cyl. pony motor on my old CAT.

The Busa sounds like formula one. Makes my blood pump.

Now really, wouldn't you like to buy a Buell that would outperform a Busa? I sure as hell would. Nostalgia is fine, but performance is better.

Of all of Buells BIGGEST supporters, who has bought a Firebolt? Who will buy a Lightning? Aaron, Court, JVV, Vik, Me, Dave, anyone? Bueller? anyone?

Chop, i've got a gorgeous '98 VFR Interceptor out in the garage -- arguably the most decorated production streetbike platform of all time (deservedly so, in this owner's opinion) -- and if i can sort out a few financial details it'll be going away to make room for a new Lightning.

like many others, i wish the Firebolt/Lightning had more motor, but in the same breath i have to admit i've not ridden the new Buells yet, and with an aftermarket end-can i wouldn't be surprised to find out they already HAVE enough motor.

i like what Erik is doing, and i don't bemoan the end of the tube-framed models. and, i believe there's every likelihood that even MORE amazing stuff is in the pipeline, just waiting for the right moment/s to debut.

Buell has had it's share of problems over the years, and i've had my share of problems with my CURRENT Buell ('96 S2 in Ice White Pearl and PM's), but anyone who thinks that Erik is going anywhere other than fast-forward is NOT paying very good attention.

just one fan's opinion, of course :)

Snail.

Yeah, i've heard a 'busa at 11K. Not impressed. Couldn't care less if it pulled 25K. If it looks like rice and sounds like rice, then it must be...

Do i need to tell you what you can do with your 'busa and all the other jap bikes?

Mom, Apple Pie, and the 45 degree OHV V-Twin. You really don't understand, do you?

Court: In '91 I purchased a new Hawk GT that had been modified by the dealer with clipons, Muzzy pipe, and RC30 faring painted RWB like the RC's. WOW! What a fun ride. I only had the bike for about 2 years and had to sell to pay a higher than expected IRS bill. But I kept the memory of that bike stored away in some still living brain cells I wasn't currently using. Alot of really good bikes have come and gone through my garage since then, including a '98 S1W and '99 M2. I wasn't looking for a Hawk when I found this one. But just happened across it during a return trip from looking at an A&R Street Tracker for sale...another bike I severely lust after. From stock, I have added only pipe(Muzzy), jetting(Factory), filter(K&N and UNI), seat(Corbin Gunfighter), and Progressive springs. I won't try and BS anybody into believing that my bike is any kind of rocket ship, it isn't, but instead it is a comfortable, reliable, and FUN sport/standard. With very strong aftermarket support and cult like following that should keep these bikes on the road for many years to come.

Court: The 750 Monster is somewhere between the Hawk and S1W I had. More ballsy than one, but not the other. But more comfortable than either. Usual mods(pipe, filter, jetting) as well as a long list of cosmetic mods. At $6,245 new w/2year warranty it was too good a deal to pass up. On my favorite road, the Duc feels much better in the turns than my previous Buells. I'll attribute this to the bikes lighter weight, Metzeler tires, better ergos, and by accident the suspension is setup properly. The M750 does lack the drive out of the turns the Buells possess(or M900,or S4 for obvious reasons). But the road ain't a racetrack, and I'm not trying to see how fast I can get home anyway(my rationale for finding bliss in modest horsepower). Well, it ain't no Buell(though I have had a recall replacement of the clutch slave and warranty repair for leaking base gasket). Along with a bobbed tail, X1 turn signals, and Blast flyscreen it's not that much different either!!

Since I'm "Chock full o'Nuts"(the coffee) this AM,let me just say this about the CBR...WOW. This is the first IL4 I have owned(w/exception to BMW) in 30+ years of riding. The big WOW I give it isn't due to it's sporting prowess(which it has in spades), but instead for the complete package that it is in terms of overall fit, finish, AND performance. Of the 2 dozen+ bikes I've owned, only 2 others have fit my 6'4" frame so perfectly...'88 Paso and '95 Speed Triple. Mine is 100% stock in true gorgeous HD colors...black and orange. Silky smooth, nimble, frickin' marvelous machine. I would never own one as an only bike. Prefer something a bit more unrefined for that...Buell perhaps?? (Okay, Okay, that was supposed to be a joke!!) But she sure makes a sexy mistress waiting in my garage to be ridden harder than I could ever manage...my wife will probably verify this.

Thanks,

Steve:

Please keep us posted as to your parts "experience". I am as interested in the dealer's predisposition to help as I am you getting your hands on the part. I'd like to know how you "feel" during/after the experience.

Please DO NOT post any pictures of the Buell XB9S, I feel a strange disturbance in the force as if a hundred Elves just cried out is a communal cry as a chunk of disposible income raced toward East Troy, WI.

Just stopped by Vallejo Buell and checked out the Black XB9-S.Nice bike in person.Felt good sitting, black is a proper color for a m/c,and headlites look great.Needs to lose the rear license plate bracket conglomerate, though, then it will look more like an S-1.I'll test ride one next week as they aren't even set up yet.

so sorry Court, posted a pic of the XB9S over on the Quick Board before I saw your request (plea;)). Will pull a page together with some details soon.

On the parts deal, they had the Y0802T for the '99s+ (much beefier part), but not mine. He was kind enough to do a dealer search and found a few. Unfortunately not in Topeka, so I'll make a phone call Monday. Which is OK with me since it's just a spare to carry -- plus it can be shipped to my home.

much thanks, Steve(2)

Court,
My first bike was a CB400F purchased brand new for $1,000 my only regret was that she was not that beautiful "arrest me" red. But even though I had to settle for blue I still loved her. With a set of Jardine headers at 13,000 rpm she was what Blake might describe as a real shrieking bitch.
Yeah, I know the redline was 10,000 but the tach went to 13,500 and Honda hadn't discovered rev-limiters yet and other than that wondrous shriek she never complained. And no I wouldn't accept your proposal even if I still owned her!

Ferris, I feel sorry for him.

I got my CRF450 back togeather tonight, with the motard wheels, lights, sprockets, etc. Tried to start it, kicked as hard as my broken leg would allow, but couldn't get it to fire. I think the batt. is so dead its taking the fire away from the ignition, or something like that.

I'll coast the sucker down the hill tomorow, should start by the time it gets to the bottom.

Buell is down, bad thrott. cables, (the cables were in place on the thrott. body), but I noticed one cable was frayed and is hanging up inside the sheathe. Order parts Monday.

Thanks to RD350 for the heads up...

One of the things that was suggested here for Buell to "entice" potential past and future customers was to offer a three year warranty.

Buells in Europe Get a TWO year warranty

US Buells still only have a ONE year warranty

When it comes to engine sound...I love the sound of a lopey snortin' twin.

Triples sound cool...refined but still raucious...

...but, IMO nothing beats the sound of a built to the hilt, unrestricted single.

That said, most fours sound like an annoying buzz.

SNAIL -- Geez....really? And I was just trying to help. Thanks!

FIREMANJIM -- Whoa there! narrowmimded? You must be confusing me with Snail. You are absolutely right, jim. There is no shortage of fine two-wheeled machines on the market. I see a R1150GS in my own, hopefully not too distant, future. Until then, if my '01 X1, for any reason, was no longer rideable, I would probably not be kicking Buell tires at the dealership. I actually had the pleasure of seeing a black XB9S at the HD/Buell place [South Coast HD/Buell, Chula Vista, San Diego, CA] on Friday, and it is sweet. As many have said, much better looking than in any photograph. If and when a demo becomes available, I will swing a leg over one. However, i too feel that they should have stuck more motor in the 9S. Maybe they wanted to, but could not, due to financial constraints. Maybe Erik and his generals think the bike is perfect "as is", and doesn't need more motor. Whatever the reason, it is a shame, because there's money on the street right now that isn't going to end up in Buell's coffers. How many Buellers did not, unless it was already done, swap out headers, mufflers, ECM's, intakes, or ignitions; or rejet, recarb, remap, rebuild their past or present Buells in search of more? How many of us are waiting for the rumored XB12R? How many of us would be more enthused about the 9S if it charted 100/100 at the rear wheel?

Now, if all of us were like Snail, we'd ALL be riding 'busas, right? Because the 'busa makes 800hp and has a top speed of 350mph right out of the box. Yeah, nothing but 'busas as far as the eye can see. First gear, 30,000rpm, and 150mph. Yeah, that's what we're all looking for.

I don't know anyone who said, "I'm gonna go buy the bike with the most horsepower. Don't care who makes it, what it looks like, or anything else. I just want whichever one makes the most hp." Or revs the highest, has the highest attainable speed, greatest lean angles, most cylinders, fattest tires, whatever, whatever, whatever.

I think for most of us, the bike we eventually acquired had to satisfy, more or less, quite a long list of requirements, and no ONE bike can do that. That's why we're not all riding 'busas. That's why we're not all riding X1's, or M2's, or R1150GS's, or blah, blah, blah.

Anyways, gotta cut this short 'cause it's a beautiful day out, i hear the X1 calling me from the garage, and i gotta get some seat time in before the San Diego riding season ends. Yeah, right...

Hope i cleared some things up. If not, we'll do this again when the tank's dry.

Bob
