Dyna,
Best way to achieve a good solution is to SACBORG the dealer and Buell at every opportunity. That shows you're willing to work with them in an adult fashion towards a mutually acceptable solution.
Josh
ps and don't forget to threaten them of what you'll do if they don't bend over backwards to please you. This flies great with Mother Harley and her fleet of lawyers.

Lets see Josh, I have tried getting this resolved thru my dealer & Buells customer service BEFORE I said anything on the web yet I was denied based on the flip of a coin. And it really doesnt matter how many lawyers harley has, if they are wrong the courts can handle it.

And since you like to give out criticism, hows about removing the blame of Widmans Harley causing your bike problems from your profile? You know you are just making the problem worse & showing that you cant act like an adult without pointing fingers.

I'm not whining that Buell won't fix my bike out of warranty. I'm also not saying f-you and threatening to throw a tantrum at the next open house *while* I'm trying to resolve the issue.

Incidentally the dealer *caused* my problems. Buell had nothing to do with it and I didn't post any slams online until after the owner asked me not to go to his dealership anymore.

Uh Josh....let me correct you here. You may, or may not, recall the story of the guy I had to deal with who had the problem with the 1996 S-1 in San Francisco. He went ballistic. Folks sat in my office, listening on the speaker phone, in the trailer behind the Buell factory as he lambasted me (preventing me from getting an edge in word-wise and telling him we'd handle everything) ceaselessly.

It got good when he assured me that he had engaged, through a work contact, a Sikorsky S-56 helicopter and was arranging to have his Buell, draped in lemons, flown over a public event.

I paused and begged the guy to tell me where. He, taken aback with my renewed interest in his tale, asked "gonna try to stop me, aren't you?"

"Hell no". I replied, I want to get every available unsold Buell to the area prior to your doing this. Fact is, BAD press is better than no press and folks who didn't know a Buell from a beanbag chair would be going to dealer to learn more about a sportbike manufacturered by a subsidiary of Harley-Davidson.

It's very tough to create any genuine interest in the value of a "continuing" relationship (the other parties one clear chance to recoup their costs and make a profit on the deal) when you success metric is the demise and anilation of the other party......about the same expected chance of success of a 92 year old applying for a 30 year mortgage.

There was a time in my life that I was a fighter. Then I got a taste of winning and figured out that book learnin' and schoolin' was lots better than being good with a ballbat. I acquired a taste for WINNING.

A sage rancher from Berthoud, CO said it best...."follow the light".

Court (who has screwed up more than his fair share of Buells without the need of ANY help from Wisconsin :))

Josh, to use a term 'sacborg' in the manner you did is a little weak. There's several sacborg members that remain Buell owners, and enjoy the bikes, myself included.

It smacks a little of 'my group is better than your group'.

Many of us started riding Buells and then bought other bikes. We call 'em how we see 'em and Buells have let us down. I have never endorsed Buell 'bashing', but I don't sugar coat the experience either.

A great portion of my motorcycle enjoyment has been a result of my association with Blake and badweb, and Vik and sacborg.

I own a '99 S-3, and have learned the hard way its not a bike to take a long distance out of town.

So there.

Paul, any chance you're reading more into his usage of "SACBORG" as a verb than he actually intended?

He could just be saying "talk about it on SACBORG", or he could just be recognizing the fact that many people vent about their Buell problems on SACBORG, without passing judgement on that.

In any event, I think it's a reach to assume he's insulting SACBORG. I sure wouldn't jump to that conclusion.

The only conclusion I reached from reading his post is that he didn't think Dyna handled the situation well. I guess I agree with that. I can't imagnie how slamming HD/Buell at every opportunity could be viewed as helpful to getting something out of them (and yes, he did a lot of it before the decision came down). But whatever, I'm sure that somehow it made sense to him. It's not what I would've done, but there are no guarantees I would've been any more sucessful, either.

I hope the situation gets resolved and if there's anything I can do to help, I'd be glad to do so.

Aaron, actually slamming them doesnt make any sense to me. It wont do a damn thing for me bitching here on the net, just gives me a place to vent my frustrations with a large corporation picking on the little guy once again.

Personally I could care less if Harley or Buell likes me or cares about what I say. Its just too many times I have heard & met people who have been bitten, & I wonder "whens it all gonna end"?

Don't get me wrong, I have no knowledge of whether your slams had any influence on the decision or not. But it sure couldn't have been helpful, I think that was Josh's point, and I agree.

In any event, that's all water under the bridge. No one has any control over that, the only thing we can control is what we do from here. What exactly failed? Maybe there's something we can do.

I either cant get a straight answer or they simply do not know what happened. The first 2 times this type of problem came up it was simply a dropped valve that punched a hole in the piston. I never received an explanation other than Buells reply which was this "If the bike is run at higher rev limits this will continue to happen and is not covered under warranty due to the installation of the race module.

This latest issue involves the oil pump in some way. The light never came on while riding, the bike made no noises, ran perfectly, etc. Turned her off & then went to restart it later & it died after maybe 5 seconds. Went to start it again & thats when she made all kinds of noises & refused to start.

Dealer claims the oil pump, the cams, & a couple of valves are messed up as well as the cases. No mention now of any piston or cylinder issues. I have a copy of the required parts list in front of me & basically it lists, lifters, cams, gaskets, oil pump, push rod, & a few small parts.
Those all have prices next to them. No price next to the cases, yet it has replace cases typed in?
Total for parts is $839 & labor is $912. Now granted this is only an estimate, but they do have the bike stripped down so they have seen all thats wrong.

So it sounds to me like this time its the bottom end that went out, last 2 times it was just valve & piston related, now its oil pump & cams. But nobody knows what went wrong, yet for some reason its my fault on a bike that has been in the shop 6 times now in 12 months?

Aaron, you're probably right. It just seems to me that at times there's some polarization taking place, and it doesn't seem fair to the admins. of Sacborg to painted with the same brush as the individual posters.

Dyna, Take the bike back from the dealer. Drive it away in you truck, push it out the back, set fire to it, and call yer insurance. Claim you wrecked it, get the check, and dont look back. Dont forget to scuff your leathers and helmet.

Excuse me while I SacBORG for a minute... OK, much better, I need a tissue.

Anyway, Huh, Buell claims the Race ECM allows higher RPM's? Am I missing something here, or are they trying to SacBORG you with tall tale?

We've used SacBORG as a noun for just about everything (Movie title, feminine itch releief product title, parts of a Frank Zappa song...), but a verb? I like it. It could mean ANYTHING.

Anywho, gotta run, The SuperModel promissed to SacBORG me while I watch football in the morning, so I'llneed my rest. GO RAIDERS !!!

Sounds like a tappet got a little off kilter. They changed the tappet retainer pin in the later year sport engines because of this weak point.

Wisconsin Lemon Law

What is a "lemon"?
A new vehicle--no more than a year old and still under warranty--is a "lemon" if it has a serious defect the dealer can't fix in four tries, or if it has one or many defects that prevent you from using it for 30 days or more (the 30 days need not be consecutive).

What is a defect?
A defect covered by the Lemon Law must seriously affect the use, value or safety of your vehicle and must be covered by the warranty. An irritating rattle may not be "serious" enough to make your car a lemon. Stalling probably is.

Is your vehicle a lemon?
Your vehicle is a lemon if all of the following statements are true:
You bought or leased a vehicle in Wisconsin.
The vehicle is a car, truck, motorcycle or motor home.
The vehicle developed a defect or defects during its first year and before the warranty expired.
The defect seriously harms the vehicle's use, value or safety.
One of the following happened during the vehicle's first year and before the warranty expired:
The dealer failed four times to fix the same defect; OR
The vehicle was out of service for 30 days or more due or more defects

So if (as your profile says) your engine was replaced 3 times under warranty and now it has failed again it seems pretty cut and dried.
However, if it was only a valve failed in 1 head and later a valve failed in the other head and now the oil pump died, you'd need documentation to prove it was out of service for 30 days.

However, the first section states the vehicle must be less than a year old so you might have to work with only the documentation for the first failures.

Anyway, if you do decide to to hire a helicopter and drop it flaming from 1500 feet onto Erik's office please let me know, I'll ride up and watch.

Josh
Don't tell me I offended SACBORG. That's like getting Eddie Murphy to blush.
For those with sensitive skin:
a) what's the difference between a "regular" picture and a "SACBORG" picture?
b) why does me making a reference to this bend you out of shape but not the threat of killing and maiming innocent people?

Josh, the bike has been in the shop a total of 82 days in the last 12 months. It was in the shop 64 days in the first yr of its warranty. Yes I too feel its cut & dried. End of subject & I will not elaborate anymore on this until its over. I am thru being pissed off, now I go for resolution.

We now return to your regularly scheduled website.
