Kscanuck785-What do you use to clean your jacket? I love my white jacket (matches bike) but it is a pain to keep clean.

I do all my laundry with cold water too BTW.

Mother Nature was on my side today, all sunshine and 80 degrees!
We(my hubby and I) spent the day riding around on back roads but staying somewhat close to home just in case the weather did decide it was going to do what it said it was going to. Before we actually headed out we went by the DMV to practice for my riding test, piece of cake. While we were leaving another woman showed up to practice (not on a Buell though). More and more women are riding everyday!

Its official, I have my mc license now! I have no idea why I waited so long to get it.

This past weekend my husband and I took a trip to Myrtle Beach for the last day of Bike Week. Even though the city of Myrtle didn't want the bikers and did everything they could to discourage us, many still showed up and had a great time. You can't just tell people to stop coming after 69 years. Anyways, it was a 520 mile round trip and it was great! We left Saturday morning and returned home yesterday so it was a short stay but fun. We averaged speeds of 65 to 70 mph and I have to say I'm impressed at how well the Blast did, nothing but gas and oil. Even in the thunderstorms the Blast was great!

Now I'm impatiently waiting for our next trip!

Congratulations on getting your license. Sounds like you guys had a great ride to Myrtle Beach. Why are they trying so hard to discourage people going there after this long?

The mayor says that the locals are fed up with the traffic and noise and that the events (Harley week, memorial bike week and the fall rally) last to long and hurt their tourism. A lot of folks I have talked to believe that they (the mayor and such) want to turn Myrtle Beach into a more family friendly place. They claim that the local businesses would do better without the bikers but from what I read the business owners are ticked off. It will be interesting to see how things go in the fall and next spring and to see if the mayor is re-elected.

Hi girls! I am new to your board, so I will introduce myself. My name is jude and I am new to this world of motorcycles. My husband has had many bikes and loves them, so all of a sudden this past winter I thought "why not me?". So long story short...I did my MSF class the middle of May and then I found an awesome Buell Blast on Craigslist. Even though I passed my MSF class, I just don't feel quite ready to take on the busy streets. So my hubby has been driving the bike to a school parking lot and then I ride it around for a while. We now have had 4 days of rain here so haven't been out for awhile. Did anyone else feel like this when they first started to ride?

welcome! good choice of bike : )

I am a new rider myself, I think most of us are nervous at different level when we start riding : ) I think the key is practice, practice and practice. You will build your confidence as you go.
something you can do is, set yourself goals everytime you go ride, maybe next time, say that you will ride a little bit in the parking lot and ride down 1 road back and forth maybe a few times and see how it goes, then kick it up a notch by going a little further maybe where there is a traffic light, then same road but take a few turns, both right and left, you'll see, 1st thing you will know is that you are going down the road like a pro!

I was personally a little nervous about 2 things on my 20 miles commute to work, the 1st one was an on ramp with a killer ditch on the right, once pass that, you need to get up to 5th gear ASAP because the cars are coming @ 70 mph! I aced it and now I dont even really think about it that much.

Then I had a 360* round-about to go through.
I was confortable doing circles during my classes BUT having a Tractor-Trailer behind you does change things a little bit, I had to get it right, in the right gear, at the right speed the 1st time around! the 1st day, I had quite a few people behind me, I wanted to be on the safe side so I pulled on the shoulder, let them go and once it was clear, I went and took the round about just fine. and now guess what? I am looking forward to it, because it is rather fun : )

keep your chin up, YOU CAN DO IT!!!

keep us updated!

I've been riding less than a year and I love it! After taking the MSF class I was the same way. we started riding around the block and than further out in the neighborhood, once I was comfortable with that we got on one of the main roads. After I became more confident we started getting on the highway(during the times when their was hardly any traffic)for a few miles. Now I'm riding all over the place, interstate, twisties, where ever the road leads me!

It takes some time but you will get there. Heck, I had my bike for almost 5 years just sitting in the shed before I finally got up the nerves to take the riding course, now I can't believe I waited for so long!

Welcome Jude! It is nerve racking when you first start out. Take your time and go at your own pace... don't let anyone rush you or force you to do anything you don't feel comfortable doing until you are ready. As the others have stated, just keep practicing and try some non-busy rodes to help you get more comfortable. In no time at all you'll be riding all over the place.

Ride safe and have some fun.

PS: I could have easily just gotten my husband in trouble with Erik... I almost posted as him, but noticed at the last second that he was logged in on my computer. Hmm.. maybe I shouldn't have logged in as me.

Hello all! My name is Kristi and I've been here on BadWeB for sometime now, but haven't really visited the Thumper Forum as you already have 2 custodians taking care of Blast riders. I'll be hanging out in the Thumper Forum more often, as we've purchased a 2000 Blast. My hubby (M2nc) has been riding Buells for the past 5 years or so. We have a '99 M2 Cyclone and an '06 Uly in the barn along with a little Honda ZR50.

The only "motorcycle" I've ever ridden solo is the 50! Guess it's now time for me to see if I like riding solo as much as I like riding with Carlos. I've gotten the DMV motorcycle booklet to study for my permit and am looking at the MSF class schedule.

We'll see how things go, but wanted to introduce myself to this forum of BadWeB.

I almost posted as him

It happens at our house too!

Hi, I'm nevrenuf's wife, "the wife "as he calls me. I also have a yellow blast, it was my sons but it is now mine. Took both the MSF class for beginners and the intermediate and both have helped. Still nervous on some things and I think it is true practice, practice practice. Although I don't get out much on it and yes this is my fault. I also did the riding around the neighborhood then ventured out on to small roads and have been on the interstate. I like to ride by myself I think I am more confident in that aspect, not worried about keeping up or messing up with other people around.
Kristi it's about time, hope to ride with you soon, we need to set up a womens blast get-together...

Hey Blasteey! I couldn't help but notice that you're from Greer. I live in Taylors, right down the road from you!

I'm with you on the riding by yourself thing. I always get nervous when riding with groups. I feel like everyone is watching me and waiting for me to mess up.(even if they're not)

I've been thinking about taking the intermediate class soon, I'll probably wait for summer to be over first. I took my beginners class last year in the middle of July, and let me tell you, that was hot!

Hey Diane! Glad to see you here. Are you and Neil planning to attend Buelltoberfest this year? Carlos and I are planning to go, but I'm sure I'll be on the Uly or M2 with him.

I got this message from Gearheaderiko:

I'm glad you introduced yourself at the "girls club". Feel free to 'moderate' there. It has a very strict policy of *no guys posting*, ever, and I dont like to break that rule even though sometimes I need to. Its still open for suggestions to a new name. Chicks club came up, once, but I really have no clue as to whats offensive.

We could have a good time with this one! If anyone does have any ideas for this section, please let me know and I'll try and set it up for us ladies.

We were in Greer, we were up there for a year and moved back to Florida, currently I am in Brillion Wisconsin,(staying with daughter future son-in-law and brand new baby granddaughter) and Nevrenuf is still in Florida. We hope to get back to either Greenville or Chattanooga area. I took the intermediate class in Greenville and it was a lot of help. I'm sure we will put in a valiant attempt to be at Buelltoberfest.

Thanks so much to all for the great encouragement! That little school parking lot was getting sort of "boring" the other evening, so I wandered out on to the street. My next step will be the neighborhood. I will do it and I will keep you all informed! Hope the weather is great for you!

Safety, safety, safety. One thing I do highly suggest it proper gear. Full face helmet dot and snell approved. Armor Jacket, gloves and armor pants. And always wear boots. Leather is better. And most of all have fun.

So, this is the first time I've posted on this thread but I thought you Blast girls could appreciate this.
Sleez, my hubby, and I were out getting an ice-cream cone the other day when we spotted a red Uly across the street, so naturally we strolled over to take a look. The guy came out and was chatting with us and Sleez was telling him about our bikes and said that I ride the white Blast. The guy said he'd seen it here and there but more than anything he's heard it roaring through town, and it just made me all giddy to know that I ride one of "those" bikes that people around town take notice of.

Hi ya'll - I know I don't post much, I do well hiding in the background and reading but I have never been much of a communicator, just the lone wolf in me I guess. I usually post when I need something (sorry to any of you guys lurking around the girls club, but you know I appreciate all the help you give me).

Anyway I finally had a rare moment to myself and thought I would check in. I read the recent posts and wanted to give my little two cents.

Congrats to all of you who are getting on those bikes and riding them, no matter now far or how much. I too spend many hours in a parking lot just riding around and around. The Blast was actually my 4th bike and the smallest one yet, but the most fun by far.

My first real learning experience was on a much larger, heavier bike (school parking lot practice) so it makes the Blast feel even lighter and smaller to me than some of you who may be riding for the first time. It is a great bike to learn to ride on but I have discovered it is not just a beginner bike, it's capable of so much more.

I noted some of you indicating not liking to ride around in groups - I am very much the same way. I did the group thing way back when and much prefer the company of my husband. We have been riding together now for 10 years and know each others riding style so well that our movements pretty much mirror each other. Adding others to that equation takes a little of our fun from the ride. Suddenly you are spending more time waiting around for others or dealing with different riding styles than you are just enjoying the ride. We have bike to bike communicators and love to be able to talk to each other as we share the ride.

We love the joy of being around other bikers and swapping road tales, but would much prefer to meet up with others at a stopping point or event.

The more you get out and ride, be it in a parking lot, on the way to work or taking that first overnight trip, the more you'll want to ride. I'm addicted to the road and long distance riding is my drug. I can't get enough of that adventurous feeling of hitting the road for days at a time, no planning and not caring where you go or where you end up, as long as I have a two lane road in front of me, I'm a happy girl.

Keep riding, stick to what you feel comfortable with and enjoy the journey - it's what life is all about. You never know what tomorrow has in store, live for today.

Happy trails to you all - hope to meet some of you one day in person.

Mags
