I have done quite a bit of maintenance work to the 01 blast since I brought it home 1 1/2 weeks ago. She fires right up now and runs pretty well. However, I had her out for a quick ride this afternoon, and every time I had to downshift, esp into 1st, she sort of lost power and shook a bit maybe even a backfire before she recovered power. No problems at all in 5th gear - something about the lower gears.

Anyway, I adjusted the primary as my last step last night and wonder if it would be too loose - it is out more than it was with the spacer in place. Any other things that it could be? I read that the intake boot would be a cause of this problem, but I just replaced that with a new one before buttoning up the bike.

Thanks!

Hil

You're posting the same question in too many places. You did a lot of stuff all at once, so it could be any one of them. Look at everything you did, and check them one by one. Erik keeps saying (and others) that you should do just a few things at a time so that it's easier to find out what went not quite right. 3 things at once, and it could be any one of them, or two, or 3. Since it seems to be on a downshift, you wouldn't have the problem in 5th.

I mentioned 5th gear to differentiate my issue from those of others I have seen posted - that more throttle/higher speeds causes a problem.

Most of what I did was fairly simplistic - changed mirrors, grips, oil filter and oil, transmission fluid. The only modifications (non-maintenance) items were rejetting/shimming the carb, installing a new exhaust and a K&N air filter.

I have double-checked everything except the carb work, so I will move on to that now.

As for the other post, I got a response that the problem was likely not the primary (which is the topic under which I posted), so thought I would post it in the more generic diagnosing problems section. Sorry if the duplication was a nuisance.

Not a nuisance. I'm just an ornery Blaster sometimes. Don't sweat it.

When I was doing my upgrades, I changed the exhaust, rode it, had a Blast, but noticed flat spots in the idle response. I then took to rejetting, got it running well, then did the intake. It continued to run well. Then one day, I accidentally changed out the cams, noticed a big improvement, but then found that flat spot again. That's when I tried the shims. It wasn't quite right, so I tried an XL needle without shims, etc. It's the one thing at a time mentality. It works quite well.

Ignore anything that sounds like it might me derision or even complaining on this board, especially from me. I mean nothing negative. Blast on!!!
