I too am looking to sell my Blast. I recently purchased an 100th aniversary XL1200S and the dealer said they'ed only give me 2200 trade in on my 01 Blast with stage 1 work and other tidbits. It only has 2500 miles on it so I think I'll wait till spring to sell it myself

(Brad Green), has any of you guys heard from/about him lately ? You remember him, he was the Buell Enthusiast who's Wife crashed on her Blast right before his eyes, and died in his arms. I felt so bad for them both.
Please tell me he's doing better...?

Hey,

Does anyone know anything about how to fix cold weather start problems on a 2002 Blast? I already tried changing the oil to 10w40, but the only thing that really seems to work is shoving a hairdryer in the intake for 10 -15 minutes to warm up the engine. The thing runs like a scalded dog once you get it started (no problems there). It is just a complete biyatch to start below 60 degrees fahrenheit. Any help here would be appreciated.

I'm having some trouble mounting the Kerker exhaust. The p clamp is mounted over the resonator tube but the mounting hole end of the clamp is too long and is running into the exhaust cannister and the hole is not lining up with the cannister mounting bracket hole. It's like the angle of the exhaust pipe is angling in too much towards the resonator pipe. Anyone with some experience mounting this exhaust have any ideas? Thanks, Jim.

Citadelfox,
I don't have any problems starting my Blast! until the temp hits the low 40's. But mine is also stock. Have you installed an after market exhaust, and/or modified the intake?

No,

Everything is completely stock. I may have exaggerated the temp--- probably low 50's, but my 1100 shadow sabre starts right up with no prob. Just can't understand what could be wrong with the buell. My first thought was that the dealer put in some left over heavy weight oil, thats why I tried the 10w40 motorcycle oil. My only other guess would be the stupid auto-choke system they've put on the blast. For cryin' out loud the mirrors suck! I would rather have an old fashioned manual choke and good mirrors! But like I said before, it runs great when I can actually get it started. It is a fun little bike!

Citadelfox - your Blast shouldn't have starting problems at all. It's still under warranty, yes? So make the dealer get it right.

Mirrors? No problems here, but adjusting them is harder than it should be.

Citidelfox - go to bar end mirrors - you have endless choices - that problem could be half a dozzen new bike glitches - vacume leak at the carb intake, faulty auto enrichener, bad kick-stand circuit, or leaning circuit, if cali model - could be clogged smog canister, or fuel vacume line leak. all pretty much easily fixable. If its a new bike have the dealer do it - if not - then check past posts to deal with each of the issues. Just Blasting on the Dark side! EZ

What would you have to do to put 17" buell wheels on a blast?

Josh,

The front wheel's only problem would be fender height, which can be altered fairly easily. The real problem is the rear wheel. The two solutions that I have heard of involve either lengthening the swingarm (which would potentially make the stock suspension worse) or the relocation of the lower shock mount forward.

You might check with Crossroads as they did this with their project Blast.

Hope this helps

Ray

Thanks for the tip Ray - that was alot of fun, I picked up more info. and part ideas on the Blast - plus got to speak to the gods of power about the 720 kit - they need a few more people to speak up before production starts, but they say no problem if ordered - like a fool I forgot to ask about price. Still it was a great experience. Just Blasting on the Dark side! EZ

Chaser,
Give me a week or so and I will have some pics of 17" wheels on a Blast. I have converted to X1 inverted forks and I am lengthening the swing arm so that the axle adjusters from a Twin steel swing arm work. Trust me, this isn't a bolt on deal though!!

You are correct, it is nice to discuss the topic in a live environment. As far as I know it is planned for 9pm mountain every Tuesday. They just keep finding more and more ways to get more power from our babies. :) :) :) :)

Quiet board here lately, so I thought you all would enjoy a photo of a '00 Blast I snapped at the local dealer. Aftermarket exhaust and fancy paint scheme.

Was cruising along at 75mph just approaching Willows when my bike acted like she was loosing power,I down shifted - she caught for a second and repeated the process getting louder in the process -so I coasted her through the exit ramp to the Shell station on the corner. Nice people - gave me the number to Hall's Buess & HD. in Chico. Well after taking off the tank and checking the plug - what was left - and then reassembling - I called and they sent out Jim to pick me up. Nice guy - loaded up my bike like it was his own(end result no scratches - hear that DP) - took me to Hal's and unloaded her. They wheeled her right to the shop and gave her a preliminary check - 55psi - she had sucked a valve and it had hit the plug. The Mech. - nice guy - asked about my plug system - I explained that it was just like the V - Rods, except the origional aftermarket - Direct Hits - (which HD made their own on the V - Rod - though the diff.s for patent reasons centers around capacitor capacity - I think the V - Rod's is a bit more If I remember right). With jetting at 180/45 - I knew I was'nt too lean - I had been running them(fresh set every 1000 miles) for almost two years. They had other Blasts there with Bubs so I know the know the Pipes Characteristics. I've heard Hall's is a great shop - I was going to drop by sunday and pop in on my way back - but life had other plans. Well the service guy - another nice chap - told me not to worry - with my extended warrenty and their service manager - there should be no problem getting her back on the road - though with the part ordering and stuff it will take abuot three weeks - posssibly less befor I can pick her up and be on the road again.Hall"s sounds like really good people so far - any others have experience with them - Hey I choose them over DP because I've heard nothing but good about them and I've experienced too much of DP - SF. I really wonder - what happened? Just Blasting on the Dark Side!

EZ - doggone bad luck! How long had you been on the road that day and how many miles had you gone during that stretch?

Please keep us informed about your Dark Blast. Too bad your Blast is the one that will get more data points to us Blastards.

Keep a good attitude (don't be tempted too quickly to get a new Lightning!)

About a hundred-eighty miles with the last stop about 48 miles behind - prof. No problem - I hope this all works out well myself. I've always planed on keeping the Blast - for incity commutting - don't cha know:0), and I was always thinking of picking up an XB9 for the long tours - next year - and it looks like that purchase includes a trip to Colorado as well - lol - Fingers crossed till tues. afternoon when final disposition of bike is is heard from Hall's in Chico. Chaser - the Blast paint scheme in the above picture looked great close up. Only the "tank" was painted. I can send you the original large 4 mpixel file image (about 2MB I think) if you would like, then you can zoom in and really see it clearly. I only took one photo of it.

Question on vinyl stickers: Is there a company that can do them in multiple colors? I have some artwork I made that fades through several colors, and I would like to stick it to the sides of my bike. I've seen companies that do one or two flat colors with no variance, but that definitely won't work here.
