Does anyone know

1) how many pulses per mile the Blast speedo sensor delivers

or

2) exactly what rpm is the Blast speedo sensor measuring? Countershaft?

Probably the same as the twins, with the magnet on the 5th countershaft.

I have been checking out this site for sometime and have gotten some really good info. Thanks.
I have finally arrived. I spent the good part of an hour last night at Wal-Mart looking at the wall of oil filters. Does anybody have the crossreference numbers for the HD Filter? There seems to a be alot of filters that look like they may fit the Blast.

Wal-Mart ST4967 is the correct oil filter for the Blast. In fact, it is the EXACT same factory-made filter.

It's just a little cheaper...

Have any of you installed a size 100/90-16 FRONT tire ? And if so, what were the results and make of tire ? did it have clearance ? How did it handle etc.?
I'm looking toward this size front as it's a more common size and more makes are available. Also, I like that it would be taller. For me ,I could use the steering slowed down a tad, have a little extra front end height, and the extra cushioning of a taller sidewall profile. Thats MY reasoning.....

Mobile has been listening! I went to get a quart of 15W50 this morning, and all they had was V-Twin 20W50 fully synthetic motorcycle oil, so I got it. I asked the guy at the counter if he thinks it would work for a single. He knew I was being silly.

Joey - funny comment on v-twin oil in a single. :) Compare the price of a quart of the v-twin oil with the standard Mobil-1 15W50 auto oil.

I'm not sure the price difference gets you any significant increase in performance or reliability. Might make you feel better, though.

I broke down and bought a Ventura Bike Pack for my Blast. It's a fairly pricey piece of soft lugguge, but the workmanship is first rate. Installation took about 1-1/2 hours and most of that time was spent messing with the Blast bodywork. I installed it on October 11th, just in time for 1) a sinus infection to kick in, and 2) the nasty Chicago weather to hit. For some strange reason, today it's sunny and 50 degrees, so I actually got to ride the Blast to work with the Bike Pack. It's a little big for commuting, but works just great. I suspect that I'll grow to love the extra space, but I would like a 20 liter commuter bag (I know, use the courier bag).

Now if only the weather will hold...

Hi Gang, I think I found the replacement CV allen head bolt set for those cheapo little things that always strip. It's from Gardner Westcott ~$14.00, part# P-61-36. There nice chrome plated/polished bolts and it comes with all the washers and an allen key. They're label as being for all Keihin CV Carbs '88&up XL / 90&up FX. I'll let you know how it goes after I try them out.

I've seen several Blasts in the past few days. They look much better in motion...and sound even meaner than the twins with a proper pipe.

Gardner Westscott update... That's the kit! Everything went on great and no more fighting with the cheapo factory phillips head screws that ALWAYS strip. I did notice that the screws were a little tighter, probably due to the plating so be careful not to cross thread! The up side is that they did manage to chase all the old loctite out of the carb body though :) I also installed new Lockhart Phillips signals using the stock locations and factory front spacers, really cleaned up the look of the bike as opposed to the factory antennae signals.

Wet weather here in the NW. Lots of fallen leaves make my favorite roads a bit scary. Having already once gone down, I'll be patient and let the Blast have some time off.

Okay, bit the bullet today and ordered the 515 kit from Nallin with the stg3 head and module ... Was it PhillyBlast that already installed the kit or someone else? Are there any 'gotchas' with the installation or if it was pretty straight forward?

Thanks

RD350 installed it (Aaron's done it too, a number of times with various configurations).
I've hemmed and hawed about doing it on a number of occasions but never actually did it, then I bought the S2.
Still have the Blast, still probably will do it, just need to get the positive cash flow thing happening.

Ltlboybuell,

I installed most of the kit, but because of wanting to stay within the 500cc constraints for an LSR record, I didn't go with the larger bore. It installed without a problem. If you have question feel free to ping me. Brian is a great guy and answered many questions that I had. I don't think he would have any problems in talking to you either by email or telephone. You might want to check www.nallinracing. com for current phone as he hes moved closer to Aaron. Aaron is a great resource also.

I have nothing but good things to say about Brian and his work!!!!

I wasn't sure if this should go into the exhuast section or here in the general area. I tried using Luster Lace on my White Brothers pipe and it worked great! here are the before and after pics:

Tires:
I passed 4000 miles on my Avon rear tire! It doesn't look new, but I think it might make it to 5000 before I reach the tread wear indicators. I have a phone number for a cheap source, but not at my fingertips...

What size is the carb on a Blast? Will a Dyno-jet kit for a Sporster 40mm Keihen work on a Blast?

Carb size is 40.
If you can cross reference your jet kit with dynojet the blast kit is 8111?
Maybe just compare the parts.

Question for anyone running a cafe style fairing.
What fairing fits the a stock buell blast the best. The only mod I've done replace the factory bar ends with napoleon baren bar end mirrors.
Is this one good? (its the universal on the bottom of the page)

Josh,

That's very simular to the one in my profile. It will require some trimming, but nothing to radical. You might want to go to a set of low rise bars. The fitment is much easier, and the low bars are much more comfortable. :) IMHO You might want to check out www.chaparalracing. com that's where I got my fairing and bars.

O.K. everybody, I'm putting the Blast up for sale, no problems with it, I just got FIREBOLT FEVER. Problem is I went to trade it in and all they wanted to give me for it was 2500.00. What a joke!, a 2002 with 1900+ miles in immaculate condition. All stock except for crossroads bars and custom graphics (looks better than any new one they have on the floor)and this is all they will give me? A Buell dealer? I am spending 9000.00 on a Bolt! just a little bothered. What should I ask for it? Any offers?

Blasterd - you'll do better selling it outright in most all cases. But I'm surprised they don't have some sort of trade-up clause for 2002 Blasts. Have you tried other dealers? Does your state allow the trade-in to reduce the sale price so that you pay less sales tax?

I suppose they don't want another Blast on the showroom floor. Also, the Buell line just doesn't have the resale value of the Harleys. Sort of makes us Blastards hang on to our toys a little longer.

I'll give you $2501 for it. :) :(

Damn! It's a BEAUTIFUL day for a ride! I got up this morning, looking forward to my 50+ mile ride to work. There wasn't a cloud in the sky! The sun was on the horizon, and I was ready to go. I've been taking it easy because my front brake pads were worn to their limit, but now I had new pads, so I could ride all-out.

After scraping the ice off my seat, I started her up and let her warm up for a little while. On the road, I was quickly in a race with a VW of some sort. She got me on the line, but by third gear, I was passing her. I entered a 20 MPH curve doing about 40, opened the throttle, and was doing 50 by the time I was out of it. I entered the 270 degree loop (25 MPH) onto the freeway doing about 50, and was almost up to my 70 MPH cruising speed when I finished the curve. "Just lean a little more," the words are going through my head. No foot peg scrapes, but I'll try again tomorrow.

What a beautiful day!

Blasterd-

A Firebolt for $9k? Your Blast would've been worth more if you'd paid $10k for the 'bolt.

The dealer needs to make money on BOTH deals. You're losing cash by trading in to the dealer. For some people that's OK 'cause they're buying a convenience and instant gratification. For the Cheap Bastards such as myself...

Saro,
that is the price the dealership has set to sell the Firebolt, and more than likely I am putting it up for sale, I was just wondering about what it was worth. It is in excellent condition and just broken in good- anybody want it?
