Just got finished putting the Crossroads bars on (thanks David), the bike has a more natural fit now. She's not a virgin anymore! This would be the first mod. What kind of glue do they use to hold those grips on? It was like glass, I cut my finger all up.....But that's not going to stop me tomorrow from trying it out with the bars on. I hope everyone has a happy & safe 4th of July!!!!!!!

Recent posting/reposting of problems with the "New" Force sidewinder intake got me to thinking about getting off my butt and finishing my own intake. Ray German (Fssnoc2501) designed a very nice intake but the external hose for the Float bowl has bothered me from the get go. After reading Aarons post about repairing/returning the new force intake to the same design as the ones of old I had an idea. So I have filled in the Float bowl vert in my Kurykyn spacer with JB Weld and once it sets I'll Dremel out the side venting it into the intake just like a Force. Right now I'm taking stock of all the hoses, nuts, sheet metal, Jet's? I need so that tommorrow I can make a Home Depot (and dealer) run and gather the last of the parts. The aim is to install it on Saturday and tune it on Sunday.

Xgecko,

Great idea think I will do that myself would improve the design and looks. Thanks. Now only wish the rest of my bike would get back so I could get in some riding time.

Tire update: Today I ordered a Pirelli MT75 rear tire to replace same which has 3500 miles and might get another 500 miles. $85 installed on the bike.

Xgecko: how are the Avon's doing? Wear about the same as the Pirelli's? Handling radically different? Rain handling?

Oil update: the Mobil 1 15W-50 definitely makes for a smoother motor. Should have used it sooner.

When this month will Buell annoounce the 2003 lineup (as if there will be any surprises)?

With about 1K on the Avons I don't notice any wear but that's about the same as a Pirelli It does handle better in the rain do mostly to the very deeeeep grooves cut in the tires. They are taller and much better suited to my normal driving (Commuting) than the Pirelli's were but in truth I don't notice much of a difference at this point....more later

Well, I'm 140 miles from home, and my rockerbox finally started leaking. It was kinda funny when I saw it, I wasn't suprised at all. Little annoyed that it happened here, but luckily there's a dealership in town.

If the dealership can't fit me in and get it fixed by monday, how bad would it be to ride home? I know my leg would get dirty, but would the engine be seriously damaged if I kept the oil level up?

Added bonus, I'm stuck at my girlfriends house. =)

Looks like they can fit me in. It'll be ready in a couple hours. Labor is pretty cheap too, $52/hour.. $20 less than Minneapolis.

Dan save your receit's that should be a warenty item. I finally finished my Intake...I will be chewing a serious Piece of A$$ on monday at the dealer2 years ago they charged me for rejetting and oopps stock jets are still in the carb and the air mix plug is still there. the Slow was really stuck and took a lot of masaging to get out So now it's really jetted and everything is put back together. Boy does it run nice Surprisingly I haven't needed to mess with the air/mix screw It starts right up and idles well. The mounting bracket for the left side duct/flap of plastic make a great Mount for the breather. Photos will follow....I figure I should get a free Dyno Tune out of the dealer for their charge for work they didn't do. The good thing is that it's on their computer that they were supposed to do it. I bought the jets when the parts used section of the work order didn't have any jets listed.

$83 for fixed rockerbox... not too bad if you ask me. They even got my got my idle set right (I've been meaning to). I don't know if I'm under warrenty on my bike.. I'll have to go ask my dealer about it when I get home.

Tony - That's kinda funny... annoying, and stupid and make you want to kick some ass. But kinda funny. Are you sure they changed the pipe?

yes of that I am certain because I've since re sold it to someone else. The Slowjet was way stuck and it reqired overtightening it to crack the seize and then backing it out then tapping the carb to get the damn thing to fall out.. What amazes me is what I've been missing. Time to relearn my bike again. not that that is a bad thing. I launched a nice wheelie (I don't do wheelies) leaving a parking lot. The Blast definatly has a dirt track/Rat bike look now.

Got the Corbin seat yesterday. It seems to be working ok. It weighs about double that of the old seat. Fit and finish looks good. However the back end doesn't sit flush with the bike. It sits up about 1/2 inch. I have a fix for this so I will keep you posted....

Also I am selling the stock (high) seat so if anyone wants it let me know...

Well, I made it home ok, the bike runs great! I'm gonna have to write a letter to the guys down in Winona (where I was stuck).

I think I might order up some rearsets this week.. Gotta look at my finances though. I'll probably get the customs, just so I only have to deal with those unreachable bolts once.

A word about the Customs from one who's done 6k miles on them. they are attached to the motor... you will feel more buzz than the y arms. Gel insoles or Doc Marten's are nice. The customs are a more complete package than the regulars they have all that you need and you can shed so many unsightly things on your Blast with their use. That said they are awesome I love them I am so much more comfortably with the rearsets than I ever was before I've been wondering about using the original shifter turned backwards in Race shifting style but I don't know if it would reach/fit (mine was destroyed in the crash so 've not the parts to play with).

That's a good point about the engine buzz, I hadn't thought of that before. Fortunately I ride with a pair of Dr. Martins.

According to the Crossroads website, the Rearsets move the pegs back 9" and up 2" while the Customs move back 8" and up 2.5". I must say the customs look way cooler too. I'll probably order those, the extra 10% doesn't seem like too big of a difference.

Tony - When can we expect some pictures of your intake? I'm curious as to what it looks like, as I might be doing something like that myself.

I will have access to a digital camera tommorrow at work so tommorrow night I'll post some. I started the bike up after skating a new skatepark and as it was idling I changed into my gear. I can hear the carb breathing now which is different and it idles way better. not rough at all... it just purrs

Dan,

Look back in the archives, I posted pictures of the intake that I built about a year ago. This is a simular design as Tony's. I just today machined the inner groove for the floatbowl vent and removed the external hose. I also polished it and it do look good.

Tony,

Thanks for the idea, it looks so much better without the external hose. Will look forward to seeing pics of yours for comparison. What K&N did you put on? Thinking about changing to a RU-1260 myself.

Ray, the OD of the ABS is 2 1/4 right??? I think I used a R1260...At least that's what I think It's been so long since I bought it I was gonna get a straight filter but as I was digging out the parts and what not, I found that filter in my closet. It works quite well and it's small enough to tuck away.
I know I used less of the elbow than you did I also haven't polished mine. I'm more in tune with the Rat Bike look.
The cops at the skatepark were way cool today they had me move my bike off the street and next to the park (Inside 2 fences and across a soccer field) they were very interested in "what" my bike was.

Tony,

Your correct at 2 1/4", originally I used a RU-0620. It was 6" long and rubbed on my Y-peg. So I'm going with the RU-1260 which is only 4". I know I need rearsets, but I need the Y-peg to mount the rear of the sidecar for the LSR attempt. My intake may be getting shortened after Aaron dyno's it in preparation for Bonne.

Waiting to get my top end back it has been to Nallin's and now is at Axtell's. Then I can get my little Blasterd back together for some long overdue riding. It's been down for about 2 months now.

Where did you mount your Breather? I found that the Bracket for the leftside AirScoop to be the perfect place I just trimed an inch or so from the engine side of the T. and mounted it there. I busted the clamp that hold all the hoses to the motor though so I need to find another clamp (not as easy as it sounds BTW). And I really need to clean the engine under the old airbox. it's grimey and the rest of the engine is pretty clean

Tony,

I mounted mine under the tail section just behind the start of the plastic. It has a tendency to drip a drop of oil occasionally and in this location is easy to clean up.

Ok, so I was at work today, thinkin about my future intake mod, and I'm wondering, what would happen with a dual intake? i.e. a smaller filter on each side with a T or Y joint on the carb instead of the one big one on the right. Maybe even a full size filter on each side.

Also, does the direction the filter is pointing in make a difference? It seems to me that if you had a pipe pointing straight forward with a filter somewhere down the line (as opposed to a filter with the pipe behind it) you would get more air and thus better performance. But I really don't know much about this.

Any resources that you guys can point me towards would be awesome.

Yes dan that was what I said to Force's Johnny lightning when the Blast first came out. However as it turned out the soured on making a blast intake Remember that this filter and pipe combo have to occupy the same space as your knee If you have rearsets it's a bit easier to fit but not much. The version that Ray and I built sits well under the knee but only because it's aimed back and down. Ideally the hose should go back down and then forward under the carb but I'm not gonna try to craft something that elaborate (that's for someone of Jesse James' capablities). There have been people who attached a simpler intake, Aaron for instance, and or a more expensive store bought one but that's all I've heard.
