...as someone who knows his limitations and KNOWS he'll never set foot on a race track in any form of competition, I have to throw my $.02 in here by saying this news "isn't good enough."

I want my street legal sport bikes!!

Damn you, Harley! Damn you to HELL!

Let's put things in perspective: There were 180 people at Buell who were going to lose their jobs in the middle of a recession just before Christmas. Now some of them will not. That's what really matters -- and I think that Erik would agree.

As to street legal Buell motorcycles, don't give up hope. Just over a month after Harley's announcement to close Buell down completely, it's back up to support racing. If it EBR wants to compete in World Superbike, they have to build and sell street legal models of the bike that they want to run there.

I also wonder if there's a lot more to this deal than meets the eye. Harley has an obligation to provide parts for Buells. For the air-cooled Buells, Harley produces the engines. For the 1125 Buells, the engines come from Rotax. Rather than sourcing the frames from Italy as they did with the XB series, Buell had the frames for the 1125 bikes made in the USA (Illinois). Basically, it's a very different bike as far as sourcing of major components. I would not be at all surprised to see Harley buying Rotax parts, frames, and other 1125 parts from EBR.

I think that HD may be starting to look at the costs associated with this vendetta-driven decision to close Buell. The may be starting to look for ways to reduce the ongoing support costs. If HD can rely on Erik Buell Racing to handle stocking, ordering, quality control, vendor negotiations, etc. for 1125R/CR parts, then that reduces their costs a lot and lets them concentrate on core brand issues -- like how long the leather fringe should be on the saddlebags.

Fireboltwillie just put the photo up to clear up where I got my (paraphrased) quote from. Some people don't get pop culture references.

Some of us are old enough to remember. ; )

As much as I enjoy your thinking . . . it's a pretty straight forward deal. Erik leaves HD, gets a license for a period of time for RACE parts and HD, beyond licensing, has ZERO involvement.

And, in contract sense, the marque stays alive.

It's easier all around if there is never a flatline period.

Some of you whine waaaaaay too much.....

I probably won't be able to afford any Erik Buell Racing motors/builds/prep and it is unknown if I will be racing in 2010. But I am stoked like crazy that Erik Buell Racing exists!!!

I have full confidence that Erik will produce a street bike as soon as he is able and understand it may take a while.

In the meantime lets have an appreciation for Erik following HIS dreams!!! After all, his roots are in racing....

Congrats Erik!!!

Too early to say at this point . . . but you understand Erik's roots and feelings about privateer racers to know that he'll do whatever he can to get the most parts into the most hands.

He's no interest in any elite . . "only for the well heeled" operation.

Erik's goal will be to involve the most folks in racing.

Cool post.

Real racing shirt: like the long sleeve, mock neck, that nike, underarmour or alpinstar make, but with the Buell logo on the neck.

Christmas is not too far away.

Erik,
I want to put in an order for a new Racebike,i do not have the money for it just now but omly want to put in an order as it may take sometime before it is ready tobe built ,by that time the money will be there. This racebike will have the best components ( nothing new there.)that the future may offer.performance without equal ,comfort(hey this is my racebike and I can wait as long as I want, the ironbut is now for the bmx boys and mc(?) makers) without limits, a SUPERBIKE. FULLCOVERAGE ( from the weather)fairing,bags-side and top- two saddle seats made custom for the rider and the passenger-airhawk? 20k tires, adjustable sound-exhaust
beauty beyond compare. Of course these are just the standard features so we all can understand. no matter that some assembly maybe required, hey that seat needs to FIT many a custom seat of which I have one. Erik just build it,I can put the minor stuff on later.Sorry for messing up that lightness that took the engineer so much effort to achieve so I could enjoy the max gross weight to the fullest.hey do not inquire about my spring scale reading.

Paint I'll do what I can do to help you again this new season.

Even if I am only playing pit man, go fetch this and that, fix things when they get broken and ect. Like we said the other night on the phone we have options. We both have fully prepped race bikes. They may be xb's but they are ready to race.. With some real luck we may get a 1125 bare bones bike somehow. Just think I made my race bike as a backup even though I don't race. I just own the bike and buy its parts as needed. I'm sure we will get a few parts from EBRacing. We/You did Very well the first season already with two 1st place season overall finishes in points and many wins. you will be fine you have rider skill.

GO race win.
GO Buell Racing!!!!!!!!!

now where do I buy My race shirt?

Court,

If I am able to race, in 2010, my ENTIRE season budget will be barely more than the cost for an 1125r swing arm conversion....

Grass roots?? Ha!! I Quess I am "crab-grass" racing!!!! LOL

If there are any plans to support the XBs, I am sure we will have something from EBR on there!!!

Xopti... I still say it is mainly the bike, over any skill I have! LOL

I wonder if this means I will be able to get the RR1000 frame and body kit I wanted back in '88 for my XR road racer? Also, my Dymags are showing their age. This is good news indeed!

On a more serious note (not that I wouldn't want the race parts) I know EBR will be a success and all of us will be on here cheering on Erik and his crew for many years to come.
