Bravo! The books quality and format is very well done. The writing flowed well and was totally enjoyable. Thank you for producing it, I enjoyed my copy and have friends waiting to read it!

How about a follow up book done on the Buell community - you could then do some of those personal stories about Erik, yourself and others and have pictures of the more notable privately owned Buells as well.

Just a thought -

Got mine yesterday, had to sit and go through it cover-to-cover before taking SWMBO out to dinner. Nice work!

Congratulations, Court and Dave--it's been worth the wait!

Court & Dave -
Got my copy over the weekend, what a great book. Makes you appreciate how hard all of the folks worked to make Buell what it is today. I'll get you to sign it at Buell Day at Liberty in Rahway this year if you are there.
Thanks for all of your hard work.

Thanks guy it great to read all the positive comments. WE had a ton of fun writing it, not every minute was fun mind you but overall it was.

Interviewing folks was fun and I heard some pretty interesting comments about those early days

Digging through the "archives" and finding stuff I had forgotten about was the best.

Thanks
Dave

Court, Dave;

You've got a very interesting book there. Mine got in last night and you've really captured what it is to be one of the Buell elvish folk. Much thanks from those of us on the outside looking in.

Dave and Court, thanks for signing my book at homecoming. I just received three more copies in the mail today that are going to friends.

It is a great read and left me wanting more. I had no idea how hard Buell had it in the early years but what an accomplishment. I think the number of people that worked for Buell in the early years, and still work for Buell today says a lot about the type of company Buell was and is.

Page 74, what is that antenna for on Court's S2??? I can only imagine what the challenge was that Court was responding to that led him to do a lap of the USA.

Even though I bought my first Buell in 97 I was still active duty and feel like I missed out on a lot that the company and Buell owners have gone through. I had a couple of goals this year and one was to attend MBV and Homecoming since I was never in the country long enough to do so in the past. I was not let down. Lynn and I had a blast at Homecoming. The 25th anniversary, the book, meeting Erik, Court and Dave and other people that I have only talked to on the BadWeb made it a great time for us.

Thanks Frank and MD. I really think I did a good job capturing the tough times Erik, Henry and Kim had back in 1986. Glad that it helps folks appreciate it.

That S2 and the trip were a direct result of Court's tireless promotion of Buell on the old Compuserve RIDE forum. He and Erik would get on that thing and take on all comers. Very fun to catch their act.

Anyway somebody got too nasty about how unreliable the things were and Court took on that ride to prove otherwise. I don't think he was an actual employee at that time, I don't think you could let an employee pull a stunt like that but it was a great promotion.

Court has logged a ton of miles on Buells, sometimes as sorta a roving goodwill ambassador, sometimes as a tester, sometimes employed sometimes not but always with the great enthusiasm that marks him. It took a lot of enthusiasm back in the day, The pay was lousy, the hours worse and the working conditions... well I remember the great Court quote "how many folks have ever had their office chair hurl them down the asphalt at 70 mph?"

Good times, better friends, I'd do it again.

While attending the 100,000th Ceremony I gathered and photographed the 42 employees who have been at Buell for >10 years. . . AMAZING!

The guys name was Steve Biegler (nice guy, VFR fan) and the forum was R.I.D.E. He called the Buells "sweepings off the HD factory floor".

I responded "you may be right, let's find out. Bring your bike and meet me at East Troy. We'll each leave $10,000 with Cary. We'll circle the U.S.A. and who ever touches anything other than oil, tires or gas forfeits the $$ to M.D.A.

The talk escalated and before you knew it I was doing shake down runs (the antenna was part of the on-board electronics - RD/Intercom/AM/FM/CB/Cass) to and fro twinxt Topeka, KS and St. Louis, MO.

Folks continued to think Erik and I were full of it (speculation lingers nearly 14 years later arguably with some basis in fact) and before long Larry Wallerstein, a San Fran Attorney quipped "I think the crazy SOB from Kansas is serious"

On July 5th Bruce Zimmerman and I rode our S-2's the 600 miles from Topeka, KS to East Troy. There was, at that time no S-2T and Bruce helped Erik and some folks check out the bags, lowers and stuff I'd been testing for several months and give the bike a quick look over. The bike was BONE STOCK.

Sunrise came on the appointed day . . . July 7, 1995 as a group of us stood around in our BUELL - Lap of America shirts. No Steve but damned if a crowd, including the Honda folks, from Chicago had not showed.

We had a short send off at the factory and Keith Ulicki led a ride to Uke's for lunch. After that I sat out.

I did a "Live from aboard a Buell" 15 minute radio call in show at 10:00AM on M-W-F. Got contacted by Ted Turner about attending a Braves game, James Taylor's brother about staying at some B&B in MA and an offer to come ride with Harrison Ford (BMW Rider) in Jackson, WY.

31 days and 37 states later I reappeared at Buell. I was in 100oF temps for 29 of those days, many times riding 18 hour days and got so "connected" to the bike that I got into the Oklahoma panhandle late one night, round midnight, was in the middle of a cassette (remember those?) I loved, and spent 45 minutes (after leaving Nashville that morning) riding around town sightseeing while I listen to it . . . .

The story goes on for about 94,345 words, but you get the drift.

Every place I went, sometimes I'd stay like I did in Orange, VA, for 2 or 3 days, I'd pop the bags off the bike and offer anyone (many had never even heard of Buell) "take it for a ride".

Results were (even to me to this day) AMAZING.

It was a life changing trip.

Buell's are like that.

Ask Dave.

Just sat down last night and started the book. Thanks to both of you for the book and for signing it at homecoming. It is great to just listen to you guys anytime you want to tell a story. You make all enthusiasts proud to be owners of a great motorcycle backed by and even better company.

For the next book, how about just a collection of stories from those on the inside of the Greatest American Motorcycle Company.

Ordered my copy from www.whitehorsepress.com last week, hanging for it to get here. Got an email from them saying it was being packed and shipped. Hopefully one day Vampress and I will make a trip to the U.S. to get it signed by the authors : )

Court/Dave - In the Fall 2007 issue of Fuell Erik mentions a prototype of the 1125R was built "almost 20 years ago". Is he referring to an earlier Buell (RS1200?), or was there a prototype not commonly known about? Is it in the book???

cheers,
chili

whitehorsepress.com has the book and is shipping. If try to save a few bucks by going to Amazon you will be waiting. Amazon buys the books from a distributor and may not have them for a little while

I didn't know they also sold moto-accessories. Also ordered headset for my Zumo audio! (sent them a nice note, too)

Slaughter, I suspect the wholegear thing at Whitehorse is a way to support the publishing. The book business is tough!

Lots of neat books as well as neat gear.

Read some more of the book last night. Fantastic!

I never saw the "family DNA" so clearly across the entire history of Buell before. It goes all the way back... with the S2 being the "missing link".

Great stuff. It really tells the story of the brand, and the brand has a great story to tell.
