I have a question. I peeked through my book to the "bikes and years" section twords the rear and noticed that the XB9 Lightning's year(s) of manufacture were only 2004. Is this an error?

I haven't read it all the way through yet, but the pictures and storyline are very very well thought-out and done! Nice work fellas!

As I recall, they were introduced late in 2003 as a 2004 model. I remember even not being terribly impressed by their looks, either. Of course, now I OWN an XB12Ss, so tastes can change...

I believe the plain XB9S was a one-year deal. Then came the SL (low) and SX (CityX) versions.

+1 on a great book...although some three guys scribbled a bunch of stuff on the front inside cover of mine. <shrug> Guess I can always remove that page later if I need to, LOL.

"Then came the SL (low)"

My bike is an 03 Sl. Date of Manufacture was Jan 03. The XB9S was intro'd in late '02 for 03 I thought.

Thanks Froggy, I am very proud of that chapter, it was hard to write and I think I got it just about right. The balance between despair and achievement was touchy.

Congratulations Dave and Court.

I simply inhaled the book.

In spite of all the many things that were happening at Homecoming, I managed to finish the book before I got home!

I especially liked the clear explanation of the tube framed models which had always been a bit of mystery to me.

The descriptions of the ups and down of running a small business will certainly resonate with anyone who has attempted it.

Thanks guys, this is exactly the book that everyone was waiting for.

Its a book that you're excited to dive in and read, you can't wait to get to the next page, but you don't want it to end.

It's kinda like the "BlackHawk Down" of books.

I really enjoyed the book, and will enjoy it again and again!

I look forward to converting more people to Buell with the newest weapon in my arsenal; )

I added Crusty's story of the shirts to it as an example of Buell people and what they go
through for each other too.

I'm so glad that I bought my Buell and "discovered" the community that came with it!

Thanks again to both Dave and Court....and Erik, Abe, Dave, Kim, Laura, Henry, Shawn, Steve,
Toni, Tim, Jen, Oz, Crusty (& family)....and on and on and on!

Thanks to all of you, it's nice to hear. It was fun to do but frustrating as we came to the realization that, short of something that looked like War and Peace, we'd only have time and space to tell such a small part of the story.

Buell is an amazing company.

By the way . . . this book project has got me in hot water. My Mother demanded a copy as soon as I got my hands on one . . . . and she asked that I overnight it to her and "write something personal" in it.

I did.

quote:

Dear Mom, you owe me $26.00. Love, Court

I didn't need the inheritance anyway.

Court,

If your mom is like my mom, she will stiff you on that book. We could start up a collection if you really need the $26.

Still waiting for my copies. Would it be possible to get one autographed??

Same here-still waiting. 5 months AFTER paying for it and the only thing I have heard was the immediate "delivery at a later date" statement from Whitehorse. They- Whitehorse- WILL NOT get any more of my money! How friggin hard would it be for them to send a notice once in a while? Not very since they keep spamming me trying to sucker me into ordering other stuff from them! Worst transaction I ever made across the net! Don't get me wrong-I REALLY want the book! If it shows up some where else like B&N before I get it I will buy it and file a fraud charge with my credit card company against Whitehorse.

Over reacting a bit? You knew it would be a few months when you ordered it. **** happened and it got pushed back. Same thing happens in all forms of media and entertainment. A copy of a certain game I ordered recently got pushed back 2 months. Disappointed? Sure I am, but it’s no big deal, I rather them take the time to make everything good rather than send out an incomplete game, or in this case a copy printed on bamboo.

Mark:

If that makes the grade to get on your list of things to devote that much effort and agita to (pursuing a "fraud" charge??) please for God's sake let me just send you a free copy.

Man I'd die to have that as my biggest problem!

Just be glad you didn't have a 2009 Ford F-150 Lariat ordered . . . . when Ford announced that they were indefinitely suspending the F-150 production I had to go order a frickin' German car and the damn thing only has two seats.

Life sucks, eh?

4,500 books arrived at Whitehorse today . . . . and I take the lion's share of the blame for the delay . . . couple that with the wrong paper shipping to the printer (we wanted you to have the best) and the fact that the freight company trashed 78.37% of the first shipment . . . well, I'll still take the rap,

Send me your address and I'll send you my copy.

Mark, if you could meet the folks at Whitehorse, you'd have a different attitude. They're good people who are trying their best. Nobody working there is getting rich. I also ordered my copy last February; it'll probably arrive in a few days.
This is just another example of Life is what happens when you're busy making other plans.

>>>>When do we get to see Volume Two?

Long conversation about that today . . . some folks need to retire, some law change and some folks move away.

: )

Look . . . I ran late with some of my stuff and we shoved Whitehorse right up against the fence. I didn't intend to have a sister with Stage IV Renal cancer, a Public Service Commission audit and be dumb enough to take more classes than Columbia recommends in a single semester at the same time . . . . but. . . among the considerable list of things I've screwed up in my lifetime . . . well, this one pales.

Life's funny and it gets more precious the less of it you have to waste. I worry about fewer things these days. Suddenly being healthy with healthy kids, great friends and so forth suddenly has come to be more important than some of the things that used to tip me over.

Unfortunately Court's sister passed. Live your life well friends, and treat each moment with every person you love like it is a gift direct to you from God.

Dave and Court, thanks for bringing the first batch of books to homecoming and signing them and passing them out there, instead of shipping the back orders from Whitehorse.

I was not at homecoming (family vacation conflict) and did not get a book, and this is as it should be. The right thing to do was to sign the book and pass it out to somebody at homecoming, and make me wait. Thanks! : )

I bought a couple of things from Whitehorse already, I want to support a company that would make the investment necessary to get such a neat little niche book published. Its an expensive and royal PITA.

That being said, I am anxiously awaiting my copy to show up in the mail : )

Shipments are starting. A bunch are going out to the magazines for review and hopefully we canget these 4500 sold. Reepicheep is correct, Whitehorse has put about $50,000 on the line to get this book out so hoepfully he will make a profit.

I know Whitehorse was hoping HD and Buell would buy a very large number of them to use as part of the 25th, sorta like BMW did for their 80th. BMW had a book written and GAVE a copy to everyone who bought an 89th anniversary bike.

Of course BMW had full editiorial control over that book and HD did not have that with us. BMW's book is very pretty, lots of neat old photos and loaded with detail but reads like a corporate report. Hopefully you all won't find our book to be as dull.

I'm still amazed (and at the same time confessing a glaring conflict of interest) that each owner of a 2008 Buell bearing the 25th Anniversary headstock is not getting a copy of 25 Year of Buell.

Think of the impact . . . you buy a Buell and 3 weeks later in the mail, accompanied by a "Thank You" note . . . you get a hard cover book.

Imagine if 10,000 folks experienced that this year . . . how many would enthusiastically relate the entire Buell ownership experience to friends . . .

Again, I confess, as I say this, to a personal interest but it pales in comparison to my interest in seeing Buell succeed and if we sell a million copies I'll not recover what I've invested (and am happy about it) in promoting Buell over the years.

The stinging part of it is that one kinda gets the impression that the sole reason that was not done was because it was not an "official HD product". There were some folks pretty well bent out of shape about HD not "controlling" (although final content reflected their requested mods) the process.

I'm not sure I'm correct on this . . .

Court - whatever hoops you and Dave had to jump through to get the book approved, it was well worth it. The photography alone is worth its weight in gold.

(Maybe that could be Vol. II - all pictures, no politics, a "photo history" of all things Buell?)

Now I just need to figure out how to afford a couple of boxes on my salesperson salary - I love the idea of handing a book to every new owner.

And guys, don't worry. Your book is definitely NOT "dull". The whole thing reads like a drinking-cognac, smoking-cigars, sitting-on-the-porch conversation. Bravo.
