There ya go Blake....
The Spell checker seems to be working...
I had to setup 2 wordlists... One was really big but it did not have simple words like "the"... The other one has the simple words...
OK, now that I spell checked this, it doesn't have simple words like simple...
Or compound words like "doesn't"...
Oh well, if you want to edit the word list, let me know and I will tell you where to find it...

Does it have "hyperdeflatulated" in it? That's what happens when you eat too many beans and cabbage, and then have a near sandwich experience when passing between two tractor trailer rigs on the freeway who then decide to get closer together and you hit the throttle and release any available pressure to get out of the "alley", and then having escaped and forgetting what you've been eating the previous few days you relax a little too much and the adrenalyn still active in your system takes over and you hyperdeflatulate. Tends to lift you right off the seat it does, not that I would know anything about any of that.

Probably more than you wanted to know, right?

PLEASE do not take this as a slam, put down or any other insult of any kind - I know how much work it takes to WebMaster. That said, would it be possible to constrain the archives to a column width that is viewable without scrolling sideways? In the hope of learning, (and usually with great enjoyment) I am s l o w l y working my way through ALL the archives - well, the tech section at least. I have not found a combination of machine/resolution/browser that will let me view some of them without lateral and vertical scrolling. I really dislike reading from a CRT, but the information here is SO useful and helpful (and sometimes SO funny) that I end up reading for hours. The s**w will be here soon, and I expect to be much better informed by the time it melts.

Most of the wide-width pages are due to graphics, so see if your browser will support not opening up the pics. Some people have said they configure their browser to not show the pictures, and then they just click to open the ones that they want to see.

Oz: I'm with you. Follow Mike's excellent suggestion to set your browser to ignore graphics (in MSIE 5.5 click on "Tools", "Internet Options", "Advanced" under the header "Multimedia" uncheck the "Show Pictures" selection box). Simply right click on a picture marker icon, and select "Show Picture" to display individual pictures as you wish.

Some additional things that might help...

1. It does help to set your screen area to the maximum possible size and...

2. Maximize your browser window to full size (DUH!). Sorry for stating the obvious, but some one out there might not have a clue.

3. If fonts are too small when your display area is maximized (highest pixel dimensions), you can set the text size on your browser to the "Largest" setting (MSIE 5.5: Click "View" then "Text Size", then select desired size).

4. You can also adjust default font scaling for all applications (right click on desktop, select "Properties", select "Settings", select "Font Size" or "Advanced" or something like that, depending on your OS, then scale up your fonts as you wish; rebooting will be required).

I have my laptop set at its maximum display area of 1400 x 1050 pixels with fonts scaled up 125% and MSIE text size set on "medium".

Everyone should keep in mind this limitation of the BBS and avoid posting pics more than 640 pixels wide. As Mikej stated, (thanks Mike) that is the root of the over-wide problem. The alternative is for everone to upgrade their display/video card to a 1600x1200 capable system.

Another thing you can do is collapse the left hand frame.

You must have one heck of a nice laptop!

I talked with Blake about this before, but have not had time to look into it. The bbs is powered by perl scripts, and I think it would be possible to limit the max size of pictures to 640 pixels wide, perhaps implemented as a user preference of some sort.

I am going to have two weeks off over Christmas, and possibly a little more down time after that. Maybe I can look into it then. I still have all the info you sent me Blake, and will let you know if I get a chance to figure anything out. It is probably about 15 hours of work max, not a huge deal.

That would be too cool! The Discus crew is working on the next major release. Upcoming enhancements will be significant. We should probably wait on the new release. Would hate for anyone to do that much work and have it rendered obsolete due to a new version.

I don't have any suggestion for improving the board - I'm not bright enough for that! I just want to say thanks. The depth of knowledge, on a variety of subjects, is incredible here, and I really appreciate what you do. I also made sure to let ASB know when I placed an order that the reason I chose them was their sponsorship of BadWeb. I'll do the same when calling Sport Twin next week. I wanted to make sure these businesses know their money is well spent. As for you guys, well done.
