I also just remembered that modern motorcycle electronics are such that you cannot "push start" a motorcycle if the battery is COMPLETELY dead (which is similar to "having no battery at all").

The put cooling duct on because they had warping issues in the past.
One of the biggest obstacles EBR face is misinformation.Very few ZTL bikes suffered from warped rotors. Many experienced uneven pad material deposits and almost universal complaints of fade. The cooling ducts were NOT added to cool the rotor and prevent warping, it was added to provide cooling to the caliper and equalize temps between the pads all to prevent FADE over longer periods on more demanding tracks. To aid in more even heat dissipation of the rotor itself, the new RX rotors have slots both lateral and longitudinal. The ZTL 2 on the RX with stock pads lack bite but have excellent feel and power! Haven't gotten them to fade despite trying.

Sorry Tim I guess its who you know. Yes they did have warping issues. EBR had issues first year and the 1125 had them prior. We are talking the race bikes not the street versions. As far as you making the fade. 95% of the riders that ride street will never experience fade from that brake system on the street and many can't push that bike hard enough like a pro racer will to experience there also.

To be clear Dana, I'm not saying no one experienced warped rotors, I am saying the vast majority of warped rotor complaints actually turned out to be uneven pad material deposits on the rotor not a warped rotor disk. You're correct most people will never complain about the performance of the ZTL designs, but its unfortunately well documented that those that did complained about fade.

Of course every mechanical design has some trade offs involved. The ZTZ offers the advantage of more leverage so should require less pressure by the caliper and as I understand less unsprung weight, but has the pay for it with higher rotor speed. I can see where this would cause more heat generation on the brake pads.'

The un-sprung weight mainly comes when you consider the front wheel as part of the system. A front wheel that transfers braking forces from tire to rim to caliper can be much lighter than a wheel that has to transfer those forces through the spokes and hub.

Correct, in fact Britain once owned the world but that is another story entirely ; )

Unfortunately, Eslick is racing in British national Superstock not the FIM Superstock cup that runs at WSB races. Good result for his first outing at Brands Hatch though, especially considering lack of practice on the bike and the awful weather they had all weekend: )

Erik's comments in the May issue of Motorcyclist about why they are in superbike are quite telling about the future. I wasn't aware of how much truly stock equipment is on the WSb bikes until talking with the Demo crew. I think once they have the ECU sorted out they will run respectably, but even bone stock this an extremely capable machine.

I wasn't aware of how much truly stock equipment is on the WSb bikes until talking with the Demo crew.

I would be surprised if the opposite were true. EBR have 'sold' this bike to all as a racer near enough ready to put in a WSBK race. They did.

Please don't tell me EBR are now using this as an excuse for not being as competitive as they'd like to be?

I don't think their making excuses. They are struggling with the electronics for sure. Engine wise the machine in my garage is closer to what's lining up on the grid than many of the EVO bikes. An EVO spec RSV4 engine claims to make 210hp at 14000 rpm but it shares almost no parts with the stock bike. Different cams, rods, pistons, valves and bearings, for an EVO Corsa bike. In fact the Corsa catalog has a different frame componentry, engine,subframe, wheels,rearsets, hell even clip ons than a Factory APRC. Similar situations for Kawasaki and Yoshimira Suzuki. Let's not even talk about a Graves R1 vs stock. I'm so used to race bikes having just about everything but the frame replaced or modified I was surprised to hear the rearsets, pegs,frame, sub frame, calipers wheels, cams, pistons, rods, heads and a whole host of other parts are the exact same parts on the street bikes as the race bikes. That is impressive whether they win or not.

You could probably take an 1190RX off the show room and grid it in WSBK in 4 hours.

Court - try to be objective : ) You could do the same with any of the leading litre sportsbikes, probably with more success (in fact I think they call it the EVO Superbike class). EVO bikes have superstock engines so are a lot closer to showroom spec than you might think. 4 hours would turn a BMW HP4/Kawasaki ZX10 into a fast bike at national/international level for sure. Not a race winner but certainly not disgraced either.

The EBR team have had a lot longer than 4 hours so far......................

(Apologies to those who think this is a downer...more just a reality check).

Last I checked the rules allow for MFG's to homologate items "for sale to the public" which means any parts including "racing only" in the racing catalog of the MFG can be homologated as "stock", even if they are not sold on the bikes on the showroom floor. I hear people complain about the cost of an RX vs a YahmaKawazukis, Duprillas, KTM's or Beamers but the truth is you'd have to spend close to $7 grand on parts to get to the same "EVO" level spec on the grid at WSb or even FIM Superstock. Look at how much the oversize radiators and lightweight stators costs for those bikes. Just those two items alone is $3.6k for the Kawai and the ones on Sykes' bike are custom, not Attack catalog parts, so you couldn't buy them even if you wanted to. EBR is running the same ones off the showroom bikes. So I get the glass is half empty crowds' take that EBR aren't running as well as any of us wish, but if we are doing reality checks, the reality is EBR has a lot more showroom content on its bikes, than most of the other bikes in the field. Again to ME, after years of the reality that race replica meant similar instead of the SAME parts actually on competition machines, it was refreshingly impressive.

but if we are doing reality checks, the reality is EBR has a lot more showroom content on its bikes, than most of the other bikes in the field.

Even if that is true, it is still no excuse. Where the rules allow 'race' parts to be used instead of stock parts, and they give a significant advantage, then you can't complain if you don't use them. This is WSb not club racing, and you get no points for being the most 'street' bike out there.


Sykes Kawasaki has a lot of specially developed parts of course,as have most of the bikes in WSb, the rules allow it and every team takes advantage of the rule book. However I think you would be surprised at how stock the EVO Panigale and BMW HP4 actually are compared to the full fat WSB race bikes.

The bottom line and the reality in WSB is....If EBR they want to win in WSB they had better develop some 'race' parts pretty quickly ; ) having a 'showroom' bike may impress EBR fans but it won't win any races.

If you want to race a stock bike or in a stock class there are plenty of better places to start than as a factory WSB team.
