I don't know... Consider what Marco Melandri and Leon Haslam were doing with the S1000RR in WSBK, and Larry wasn't even in the hunt in AMA SBK on the same bike. The S1000RR cleans up in Superstock racing, and AMA SBK isn't much different than Superstock.

The S1000RR has performed pretty poorly in BSB spec, yet won the BSB Superstock class last year (with a very similar setup), so it seems that they either work brilliantly or don't seem to work at all : (

The WSB bikes were pretty hopeless for along while until they sorted the electronics last year, so if Pegram didn't have access to the 'proper' factory kit he would have struggled anyway.

Or is it the BMW's work well as long as no one else has anything better than what came with the bike on the showroom floor.

i take it suzuki was not happy seeing Young get beat 2 years in a row by Hayes.
Hayes is just a extremely talented guy.
At Jersey before you get tu tunrn 1 under the bridge,
i noticed all and i mean all tip the break, hayes did not at all. he kept full throtle. is like he memorizes the track.
its sick to watch him.
dude is awesome

My question and no offense to Aaron Yates. Is why EBR selected him?? Aaron has been off a bike for over a year other then a couple races last year because of a injury sustained in 2010. Why not Tommy Hayden,Jake Zemke or Blake Young ?? Don't these riders have what Aaron has ??

Yates has a very aggressive riding style that likely works well with the 1190RS.

Zemke rode the 1190RS last year at a test and his times weren't very impressive. We also know that Young rode it a few weeks ago and, while we don't know his times, we can infer from his own response to the test that he didn't knock anybody's socks off.

So it's safe to say Yates probably had better times than either Young or Zemke.

As for Hayden, EBR isn't the only team to pass on him. No other Superbike teams have offered him a seat. I don't know why, but EBR probably has limited interest in Hayden for similar reasons to why every other Superbike team has limited interest in him.

One of the Hayden's, don't remember which one but not Nicky, said some pretty disparaging remarks about either the last year of Buell or the first year of the EBR team. It was something to the effect of not having to worry about them being out on the track and oil. And no he wasn't talking about the XBRR. Memories run long when it is a negative remark.

Elvis,

I don't think they chose Yates on his times at the test. If you look at and Compare Yates record since 2002 to Hayden or Zemke and you will see they have done just as well if not better. Fact the matter is Yates Zemke and Hayden have all something in common. They all have ridden for Jordan and do not anylonger. Hayden and Yates both have ridden for Yosh and both dropped. I think theres other reasoning. It would be interesting to know??

Maybe it has to do with building a good team, maybe he works well with Geoff May and works well with the mechanics coming on board.

An experienced and determined rider, with some past excellent results, returning from (and healed up from) a serious injury, who will work well with the other riders and some good engine developers that bring some good experience and new perspectives to the team? Coupled with a new hungry company with a remarkable new bike? That could work pretty well...

I dont know about hayden, personally i don't like guys with their girly earings.
i think its good ebr is giving yates an opportunity to prove he is not over yet.
just because a guy gets injured does not mean he sucks.
look at the NFL how many guys that get injured come back and even better because they know it might be their last chance and they have prove something.

Haven't been a fan of Yates since Daytona 2002? (not sure of the year) when he went nuts and attacked (jumped up and kicked) a fellow rider after a get-off that was just as much his own darn fault. But I expect he's matured a lot since then. Will have to give him a reprieve since he's joining the EBR team.

Though not condoned as a professional, I was never mad about this. If you knew the other person involved (Fania Jr) you would most likely not be surprised by Yates' reaction. Plus - we all do dumb stuff.

I like Yates and happy to see him get the ride. I think he will do well. At this point in EBR development I think experience is better served than youth.

You can look at this two ways; 1. The guy is committed, extremely passionate about racing and NEEDS to win 2. He's an idiot with a chip on his shoulder. I would have to go with option #1. We all perform differently under stress and do things we wouldn't normally do under said conditions. I think Aaron is just as human as the rest of us.

#1, Did you see that moron drive over into him? He was likely running well in the race, and taken out by someone who had no business being in the race.

This is Aaron's record prior to the injury...

2009 7th AMA Superbike
2008 AMA SUPERSTOCK CHAMPION, 9th AMA Superbike
2007 4th AMA Superbike, 3rd AMA Superstock
2006 4th AMA Superbike, 2nd AMA Superstock
2005 AMA SUPERSTOCK CHAMPION , 4th AMA Superbike
2004 6th AMA Superbike
2003 2nd AMA Superbike
2002 AMA SUPERSPORT CHAMPION , 5th AMA Superbike
2001 13th AMA Superbike, 7th AMA Supersport
2000 3rd AMA Superbike, 6th, AMA Supersport

I talked to Larry Pegram in 2011 at a tire testing session at MMP,he said that every time he had a problem with the BMW,they would call the factory and the response was "Yea,we had that problem too" but no answer as to how to fix it!!The factory team just didn't want to give away any secrets,or they didn't know how to fix the problem, after all, they weren't performing so well either back then.

the problem with big corporations like BMW is that you have so many engineers, you don't really know who did what during the development, so just because you get an engineer it does not mean he knows how to fix the issue.

Shel'll be racing a Suzuki. I was incorrect about DSB. She'll be racing in Supersport.

Also of note:
"Fått kontrakt". Get a contract.
She was not given a contract. She is putting in $300K herself to realize her racing dream as part of that contract.

Shes most likely getting support from Jordans team as the National Guard/celtic team are as one in DSB.

Helmets versus Kilts? :-)
But that's a long time ago. Last scrimmage was in 1066. I think it is safe now.

And yes, BadS1. The article mentions the connection to MJ's team.

So now we know: Pegram will ride an R1.

http://moto-racing.speedtv.com/article/ama-sbk-peg ram-swaps-bmw-for-yamaha/

I don't expect him to be dicing with the two Joshes though.

Jaime,

I'm a little interested in the details of Pegrams R1. Will it have a electronics package?? If it does will Yamaha be helping out with his team more then we know?? I agree that he won't dice with Hayes. But on a good day Pegram can rip.
