I would like to see Colin Edwards come back and ride an EBR! I think he could win easily--like he did on the RC51.

I have never cared for Spies and to see him on an EBR in my opinion would not be good and two since he's played on the world stage he is probably too damn expensive.

If they have a second rider its most likely Cory West. Very very talented rider. Give him the right equipment I bet he's do great. Hes done very well so far.

Latest rumor I heard was Cardenas to Yosh. That would be great for him and be rough for the rest of the grid. He is way good and on that machine he will really give Hayes a run.

I would love to see Tommy Hayden on the other EBR. That would be great but I doubt it will happen.

That would be a great ride for him. however he was on aSuperbike and a good one the year before. He really didnt do all that well in comparison. The gixxer is long in the tooth and really needs to be redesigned.

He was 4th in the championship and had a win and 2 other podiums. On a lower funded bike than the Yosh. I do agree about the GSXR though.

Trojan- That wasn't a misprint. More than one team runs 2009/2010 GSXRs because they are set up and there have been next to 0 performance changes to the bikes over the years.

He was in points way back from second also. Close to Bostrom and Hayden which all three riders were new to Suzuki. As far as funded?? He was with M4 quite a well funded team. Just as well as Jordan. Jordan Funds 2 bikes. M4 funds how many??? In all classes as well. I like Cardenas but Eslick,Disalvo,Zemke (not on the Ducati) gave him a handful as do others at times. Like Zemke my opinion he is a sensational 600 rider. Hes gonna have to prove himself more in Superbike. BTW why did he go back to the 600 after being in Superbike 1 year?

I think Cardenas went back to the 600 because of money. He went back at the same time the Geico switched from RMR to M4. For some reason Geico only wants to support a Daytona Sport bike team and not a Superbike team. Probably costs them 1/2 as much or less for a winning team.

That is what I heard that M4, and new sponsor to them GEICO, wanted him back in SportBike and he was under contract. I think Cardenas can be great on a 1000 if given 2yrs instead of 1 and then bailing. So you are saying that M4 is as well funded as Yosh? Without knowing exact numbers I would guess M4, through all classes, are 3/4 the Yosh budget. Love the debate. Makes the off season more fun!

Sam i didnt say they were funded as well as yosh. i said they were well funded and sponsored several classes. So I could see how they could afford Superbike if need be. Remember Yosh isnt funded like they were...... two rider at one time three.

Yosh isn't funded anywhere close to how they were 5 years ago. The 2nd rider is bringing money to the table, just like they do it in Europe.

For those waiting for Spies and Edwards (or Hayden for that matter) to return to AMA racing......don't holds your breath.

Both have said that it isn't an option for them and to be honest why would they want to now? It would be like Valentino Rossi returning to race in the Italian championship or Cal Crutchlow to BSB..it just ain't gonna happen.

Big teams really should be looking to take on younger talent like JD Beach and PJ Jacobsen rather than trying to sign people at the end of their careers. Signing a known but 'older' big name at the end of their career may bring short term sponsors but it does nothing for the long term future of the sport.

bringing money to a team is now an unfortunate necessity in motor racing, at least for the minor teams and second/third string riders, although I have noticed some teams now make ALL their riders pay to ride, regardless. (PTR racing in WSS is one such team). The days of big pay packets for riders in domestic championships is very quickly becoming a thing of the past. If the AMA series can't attract a decent TV package then the prospect of paid/contracted riders will be even less prevalent, and will see the series sliding to not much more than major club status in relation to other major domestic sports and other domestic Superbike championships : (

Matt... thing is the racing in AMA is great watching right now. Its not sliding.... our economy is!! The racing is much better then it has in many years. The AMA will get televised. Where ever our Motocross series goe's our Road race series will follow and Motocross is by far more popular here then just about any motorsport other then our Nascar type series.

I really believe that Colin Edwards could come back to AMA and win 2 championships before he retires from "old age". I think he would be having more fun (the bottom line when you are racing), compared to running second rate equipment in GP and being unhappy.
He has unquestioned experience winning on a V-Twin.

ompared to running second rate equipment in GP and being unhappy.

Those second rate machines are anything but second rate.lol What Colin is... is one of the highest regarded riders for development in the Paddock. Which is why he has lastest as long as he has there. Colin coming back??? Kinda doubt it. He'll retire before that.

Second rate for sure compared to factory Honda and Yamaha, without a doubt. Deep pocketbooks cannot be matched by lower budget teams.

So then is Gresini and Tech 3 because they are not factory. And this is why CRT's are there. The Budget and more affordable. Looks to me like we are seeing more bikes because of it.

All the CRTs are 2nd rate machines compared to the leading factory prototypes.

I'd agree that winning a national series has got to be better than getting repeatedly lapped in MotoGP.

Sure don't see how bringing the very best talent to AMA Superbike could hurt the series, no matter their age.

CRT's are third rate practically behind the factories and the satellites! Why any rider would want to be on a CRT instead of a WSBK machine is amazing to me. At least in WSBK you COULD win but in MotoGP on a CRT you can only win if 8 prototypes crash and can't get back in the race.

And you can only win if your on a factory bike.lol Ever see Tech 3 win?? Gresini Win??? No and even those teams don't have exactly what the factory teams have. Might as well put two factory Honda's out there and 2 factory yamaha's out there and let the 4 race. Because thats what it is. Why compare... get pat comparing and see what GP can be. A full grid. These CRT's aren't slow.... they are getting faster and faster. Blake are you serious??? Theres great talent in our series.lol Motogp is getting boring and something needs to be done. Even the riders are feeling this way.

Sure don't see how bringing the very best talent to AMA Superbike could hurt the series, no matter their age.

You would have to convince the riders that returning to a series they left years ago is a 'step up' in their career, regardless of how long that career has been. Both Edwards and Spies have stated that they will NOT return to the AMA series, so no conjecture is going to make it happen. There are very few (if any) teams in AMA that could pay Colin or Ben what they would consider to be a 'living' wage these days, and neither of them are in it just for the sport and thrill any more.

Running at the back of a world championship like MotoGP, even on a CRT bike, is still considered by most riders to be better than winning a national Superbike series. Why fo you think most riders aspire to riding in MotoGP?

MotoGP may have only 4 bikes capable of winning, but look at AMA Superbike. How many bikes are really capable of winning that series at the moment? Only Yamaha springs to mind. The racing may appear closer and more exciting, but the results is still in little doubt at the end of the year.

I agree with Matt, once you have tasted the major leagues you don't want to go back. Everything, and I mean everything is better for a last place MotoGP rider than it is for a champion in a national series. The track food, the accommodations at the track, the access to the track, all the helpers, the motorhomes, the hotels, the girls, everything. It would be same as a fading veteran ball player being given the choice of sitting on the bench for the New York Yankees or starting for the Toledo Mud Hens. The Yankees are going to be the choice every time.

But I'd still like a Toledo Mud Hens shirt at least : )

Another factor that comes into play is that as riders get older they tend to take less risks and need paying more to take them. Would Colin Edwards want to risk life & limb just to beat Josh Hayes? Probably not.

However, JD Beach, Josh Herrin or PJ Jacobsen just might (as Herrin showed occasionally this year). They have the skills, ambition and the drive to climb the greasy pole and get to the top, and they will do it for less money than Edwards or Spies for sure. These are the type of guys that should be on the top of every teams shopping list right now.

Unfortunatly we are seeing more and more shopping lists wanting riders to pay. If the teams can't find sponsers how are the riders going to find sponsers? A handful of really talented riders get paying rides and the rest of field is rich kids who want to race will make for a very boring race: (

Since the rule changes the bikes have gotten some what closer by far.... but not quite. Jordan couldn't succeed when at the time he couldn't get what the factory bikes got. At the same time there budget isn't of a factory team whether you believe that or not. But this past year Jordan has shown its front wheel alot more and its looking better for them. Them switching to EBR will never happen. Finacially they get more from where they are.
