Shawn Higbee took the championship today at Willow Springs Raceway. Crummy photos at http://www.meetup.com/SoCal-Buell-Riders/photos/96 1085/ - equally crummy videos soon on YouTube. |

Sweet! Took the win in Twins according to the text just now. 2nd in Formula One (this is THE money race of the month at Willow Springs!!) Said he was running 1:14s - and Toye was running in the high 1:13s - on the new BMW. Shawn is BUSTING HIS BUTT! (gotta go look at MyLaps.com to check times) WOLF, was he on your bike?? |

Pictures are fine SoCal. Great to see Shawn sticking it to some of the "big boys" with big money and factory support even if indirectly. Hope you make it to Millers again next year. Thanks for sharing this race with us. Bob,(Utah Buellers) |

Battle, I mean skirmish, of the V-twins. Score Buell 1 - KTM 0 (actually including the F1 race the score would be Buell 2 - KTM 0.
Robert (Rodrob) wanted me to get a picture of him leading Shawn around the track. Okay, so he is really getting lapped but he knew that was the only way to get that picture ahead of time.
The big wheelie going by Robert was priceless.

Shawn did great in the F1 race leading quite a few laps. The top three guys had all set class lap records in their earlier races.
If there is anybody on the west coast that can really make the the BMW S1000RR ultra competitive, I think that is going to be Jeremy Toye. I hope he comes back out next month on the big track with that bike.

Its good to see Shawn on a buell. I'm sure all he would ride is a buell if he could have it his way. |

CONGRATULATIONS to Shawn and mondo thanks to all who lent him a hand. He's a true champion and you can't help but get caught up in the enthusiasm of a true privateer. Well done. |

Was he on a 1125RR or was he holding off those big bikes on a regular 1125R? Either way everyone knows how fast the BMW is so nice job! |

How did Shawn look stacked up against that KTM? Someone said they had the big factory support group on hand and I recall being lectured about how superior the KTM was. Eager to hear from someone who was there? Was Shawn able to hold the factory KTM off with his 2008 1125? |

The bike Shawn was riding this weekend is a Daytona Sportbike Spec 1125R. This is an 08 model that saw a lot of AMA duty last year and was used in the 200 in March. The chassis has a lot of race miles on it. The motor was re-freshed for the 200. In it's current condition, the bike puts out just about 140 RWHP. How did the bike stack up against the KTM RC8R, you ask? The KTM team was well equipped with a KTM race support van, a pit crew of three and all the KTM branded Easy-Up and tools. I can not for sure say that it was "Factory effort". Sure looked like it though. In the heavyweight twins class, Shawn and Randolph (KTM rider) was dicing the first half of the race with Shawn in front but Randolph showing a tire every now and then. The second half of the race, Shawn put a hurt on the KTM and won by 10 bike lengths. He celebrated the win with a helluva wheelie across the finish line. In the F1 race, where Shawn earned second in a hard fought battle between the 1125R and the BMW S1000RR, the KTM came in a distant 5th. It was not a factor in that race whatsoever. The KTM sounds really cool though. Fun stuff! |

That's good to hear and exciting as hell. Apparently the "impossible to beat KTM" I was warned about didn't materialize. It's good to know that at least it sounds good. . . . Vroom....Vroom. Can't wait to see Shawn race again! |

Guy's,you probably won't unless Shawn can get some good sponsorship.About his wins this weekend what makes it even more impressive is Shawn won the two twin races with the same tires he practiced on saturday. And they had already been run before. The last race where he came in second to Toye(and he led the race for 4 laps)he switched out the rear tire for one that was'nt so used. He's on tight budget and needs some sponsorship. Can you imagine if he was on a fresh 1125RR with fresh tires Toye's BMW would'nt of been in sight.Thats how impressive of a talent he is.And if he does'nt get some help you won't be seeing or hearing about him racing. The economy sucks but, theres got to be someone out there that can sponsor Shawn. danny |

Anony "Shawn on an 1190RR at Willow? How about us fielding against the factory KTM's they enter in club races rather than at pro races?" WOW this is what we all want to see! Sounds like they already have a bike ready for him just needs some support. |

Danny - Shawn is working every angle to race at Laguna. Obviously we're trying every angle to make sure he can do it on the Buell. Keeping fingers crossed and trying to pull some strings out here. Sponsorship is tight everywhere |

Steve -- What would probably do the trick for Shawn at Willow is the 1190RR bodywork, radiators and oil cooler, and front head pipe. The radiators are handmade and expensive, but maybe $6000 would buy the package, and noticeably improve speed and acceleration at speed. If you could get a 1190RR frame and airbox too there would be a noticeable power improvement with no other engine changes. Anyone want to start a fund raising program? |
