I almost messed up and posted the results up here, not thinking about those who don't get a live feed. I get the Motogp.com feed online and I am just anxious to get others opinions on the last lap fight for third place.

All I will say is:

Repsol Team orders.......to be continued till after speed tv shows the race later today.

Way to go, MARCO!! That ought to answer any questions on his ability, and that miserable Ducati he had to ride last season...

If Rossi loses to Lorenzo tommorrow in Muggelo, it will be the the end of the Rossi era. But I still think that Vale will win.

Prediction :
1. Rossi
2. Lorenzo
3. Stoner

Stoner's only chance for the championship is to finish consinstently in the top 3 and let Lorenzo and Rossi fight too hard and have some crashes.

Ducati needs a major redesign. Hayden and Kalio are last for another track. I wish Ducati makes something really bold like a in-line triple. Since they realised that a V-2 had no chance for a GP bike and built a V-4, I hope they keep Desmo as their trademark and tradition, and either design a "short" V-4 (like 65 degrees) or even better a in-line triple with desmo. A 3 cylinder engine will give them a lower weight limit.

But anyway, Ducati still has the fastest rider in the world. Go Casey !

Conventional wisdom seems to say that the V4 is the best configuration for MotoGP, otherwise why would Honda, Ducati and Suzuki all be running it? Ducati is known for V-twins, and Suzuki is known for their IL4s, yet both factories went with V4s for MotoGP.

Honda has always been a proponent of the V4 (though their current superbikes are IL4s).

Only Yamaha and Hayate (Kawasaki) stayed with the IL4, and only Yamaha has had success with the design (probably due to the work of Mssrs Rossi and Burgess).

A triple would be cool, but it would be better if it was brought out by a manufacture with some history with that engine configuration. That means Triumph or perhaps a certain Italian motorcycle company namely MV Agusta. Then let us design a frame with potentially the biggest air box to go with lower center of gravity. Sounds like Buell and Wa La Harley goes MotoGP Racing.

I think Laverda Jota was the first IL3 moto produced in the 70s, not Agusta or Triumph.

I do not think there should be "tradition" in racing, especially GP level. It is better to have fresh ideas and inovvation.

Watched a little MotoGP racing today but usually interested in Daytona Sportbike with our Buells competing. Can someone explain the jumping on another bike when pitting? Seems unusual for any type of racing but I'm just uninformed in this venue.

i believe they were changing bikes because the track had been wet and was drying out. faster to change bikes than to change tires.

"Conventional wisdom seems to say that the V4 is the best configuration for MotoGP..."

Most likely reasons.
V4 is narrower thus more lean angle with a lower CG.
Also four cylinders allow more valve area and less piston assembly inertia for the displacement thus more power/RPMs.

The Triumph and BSA Triples came out in 1969 and MV was racing triples in the late Sixties.

Hey Bob...

When the race is declared 'Wet' they are allowed ONE change of machine/tires. So, if you go out on Rains with a 'wet' set up and it's drying, you can come in and change to Slicks and a 'dry' set up. Or if it's dry and raining, you can go the other way. Rather then change the wheels (like an endurance race would) you get on the 'other' bike and go.

Now, if you went out on one bike changed over and for some reason wanted to change back, you must use the same tires that started on that machine.

Remember, this is only if the officials declare it a 'wet' race. If they do not, you must complete the race on the machine and tires you started it on.

Hope that helps clear it up a bit more for you.

Thanks for the explanation Peter(Blublak). Seems reasonable enough. I still think the pitting in any venue add a bit to a win or good place finish. This does add a safety factor though.

Hayden was 6th in FP1 !!!

Much as we would all like to see Hayden do well on the Duc, FP1 isn't really an indication of how competitive he is going to be when the pace hots up in FP2 and Qualifying. I would expect Capirossi, Edwards, Vermuelen and Melandri to get significantly quicker as the weekend progresses, not to mention the Spanish home contingent.

Apparently Haydens bike has been significantly altered since the last race following tests by the Ducati test rider, and as he says 'the only parts that are the same seem to be the grips!'. The electronics have also been changed a lot in addition to the riding position to get more weight over the front wheel.

Maybe this is what has made him quicker?

Nice to see Rossi back on top in FP1 : ) His Isle of Man lap must have reinvigorated him ; )

I think the biggest problem with Ducati is that the bikes are set up for Casey's style. Casey is unique and apparently NOBODY else can ride that bike the way Casey likes it.

GO NICKY!!

I really feel for Hayden. He cannot be happy not being competitive; this has to be tearign him up. I hope Ducati can get a bike that he can make work. I doubt that he can ever win race after race like Rossi sometime does but he should be on the podium with some regularity.

"Stoner relies in electronics" = A modern Myth

He is the only one to slide in the corner entry like this.

What changes were made to Hayden's bike, in geometry ??

Don't know exactly, but they say that they have altered the bike 'significantly' so that he has more weight over the front wheel. if all they have left ae the grips it wouldn't surprise me if they had a complete new frame for him.

FP2 isn't looking great for any of the Ducatis at the moment though (with 1 minute remaining) as the top Duc is Stoner in 7th with Canepa 9th and Hayden 10th, Gibernau 14th and Kallio not even registering on the timing screen at the moment : ( I expected Kallio to do a lot better than he is doing recently, especially after his early good results. I think he is in the same situation as Hayden in that it seems very easy to 'lose your way' trying to set up the Ducati, and once lost it appears to be extremely difficult to get back to a competitive setting.

Maybe it is just a confidence thing, as Stoner says that he thinks the problems are in Haydens head (so much for the supportive team mate!)

As for the electronics, Stoner appears to be the only one who trusts the Ducati electronics 100% and so is able to exploit his 'loose' riding style and get away with the slides etc that he does. Every other Ducati rider is still trying to ride it like a conventional bike and is over-riding it because they can't let the electronics dictate their riding.

You only have to look at the transformation in Melandri to see that it is the bike that held him back last year.

Rumour has it that Simoncelli has been approached to either replace Hayden at Ducati (difficult under the new proposals that will ban 'rookies' from factory teams) or go to the 'satellite' Pramac team with factory support, but Marco seems to view the Ducati ride as the poison chalice, and is keeping his options fully open elsewhere!

I believe Simoncelli will end up at Yamaha (maybe with Ben Spies) to replace either Edwards or Toseland, both of whom are out of contract at the end of 09 and unlikely to be retained on current form (6th & 7th places at the last round not withstanding).

Tech 3 could do with some outside sponsorship cash and Simoncelli would certainly bring a lot of support with him from the 250 team.

I am really impressed by Spies, he is much better than I thought.

Spies & Simoncelli on the M1 sounds good for the motoGP fans.

Rossi looks unhappy during the last sessions. It is difficult for him to accept that Lorenzo is faster. But I think on the race in Catalunya he will bit Lorenzo, since he has the fastest race pace.

I would also like Stoner to leave Ducati for eg. Suzuki. This would make for an interesting champioship, together with fast rookies on the M1 !!!

race prediction

1. Rossi
2. Lorenzo
3. Stoner, But I hope somenthing happens and he gets 1st

It seems that Hyaden is still unable to go fast on the GP9.

Kallio must have read my post, becaue he moved from nowhere up to 10th in qualifying!

With Hayden down in 13th it makes Mika the second fastest Ducati, although he admits that he still has problems to solve. Canepa went from 9th to 18th in the space of 2 minutes, so it shows just how close they all are, with the exception of Talmacsi, who has somehow managed to wangle a MotoGP ride even though he has only done 3 250cc races this year. Surely it must be a danger for someone (even an ex 125 champion) to be 'learning' a new bike at 4 seconds a lap slower than the leaders during a GP?

Rossi was again fastest in the morning warm up, although with only hundreths separating him and Lorenzo it looks like it will be an exciting race : )

Really impressed with Lorenzo's attitude after the race. He was really cool. He took it much better than either Rossi or Stoner would.

Great result for the rest of the season!

Shame for Hayden. I think his season is over....... Maybe Laguna will be his last chance for a top 6 finish.

I think Stoner will have another year at Ducati in 2010, and then he will have HRC pay him a lot of money. Maybe he will team up with Burgess after Rossi withdraws in 2-3 years.
