According to GregOnTv.com, "Trip Nobles is going to race a Kawasaki 600 this weekend. Trip is a myspacer... so if you are on my profile look for Trip and send him good wishes."

Trip Nobles has been a great Buell racer for many years...

Tripp was also a privateer VR1000 pilot. Good luck Tripp!

So far McWilliams is the only Buell rider listed in the first practice session. Currently inside the top ten, but just under 4 seconds off pace. However practice just started with plenty of time to move up.

Dean Adams is starting to sound like a parrot...

http://www.superbikeplanet.com/2006/Sep/060901b.htm

"British broadcasting legend Chris Carter, of the famed Carter Radio Show at Daytona, is co-announcing this weekend with ex-racer Richard Chambers and Ben Chitwood. Carter's near endless stream of tales and opinions may alone very well be worth the price of admission here at Road Atlanta.

Former GP rider Jeremy McWilliams is here racing the clearly illegal Buell in FX. So no matter how angry Carter makes the Yanks here, he'll still have a dinner partner."

I'm still trying to figure out how a bike declared legal by the AMA is "clearly illegal".

Sounds like Adams has a clear case of "don't confuse me with the facts". What a dick.

Just checked the article myself, note the clever revision to the statement:

"Former GP rider Jeremy McWilliams is here racing the clearly illegal Buell in FX. So no matter how angry Carter makes the Yanks here, he'll still have a dinner partner."

McWilliams ended up 12th in the first round of practice:

http://www.amaproracing.com/prorace/raceres/rr/qres.asp?cls=fe&snct=p6280&type=p &rnum=1&year=2006

Is he the only Buell running this weekend?

FX Qualifying is over. Looks like McWilliams will start in 13th place exactly 4.5 seconds off pace. Hopefully they can start finding some speed in the thing. We'll see what happens race day. Good luck Jeremy.

I believe at Laguna, Jezza was able to move up 7 places from his qualifying position to his finishing position. Hopefully he can accomplish something similar this weekend.

If you look at his position by segment times:

S/F-T5 -
13th place

T5-T9 -
8th place

T9-S/F-
12th place

Curiously between turns 5 to 6, as well as 8 to 9 are long straights.

A top 5 would be sweet, but I don't see it happening without a first corner pile up taking out five top guys. My prediction is 9th place. Good luck Jezza!

If you were to ask me at the start of the season, I would have told you that they would be in the top five by this point. Hals and Kosco were top ten regulars with their XB's.

I truly believe (and I've been flamed before for stating) that the reason progress is slow coming is the fact that it's McWilliams this week, Crevier the next, Hale off and on. You first have to have a consistent team in order to be successful. Hopefully they will build upon their experiences this year and start next year with a more focused gameplan.

To a certain extent, I'll give you that. However DuHamel and Zemke have been replaced by Hayes and Gobert so it's a wash with Honda. Yamaha is obviously a power with the addition of Bostrom and DiSalvo. Interestingly enough if you look at the results of 2004 and 2005, you'll see the same cast of characters +/- a few.

The class is evolving and the competition isn't going to get any easier.

Mutant Man sez:

What that "naysayer" JScott said. I believe that Hayes and Gobert are good, but they are not Superbike quality riders like Duhamel and Zemke, who were the cream in FX for the last two years, so it isn't a complete wash. Hayes and Gobert took over the Honda FX bike with two years of development, and are improving on it this year. They may be in the same league with the Superbike guys next year, or not.

This year Yammy Haul brought in two Superbike quality riders in Bostrum and DiSalvo though. So the top 4 riders are really in a class almost by themselves. But a lot of the of the rest of the cast are the same characters or similar in talent and equipement.

If we are lucky, Yammy Haul's team will move into Superbike next year with Bostrum and DiSalvo, making room for more of the satellite teams upward mobility.

At least McWilliams was excited for a while.

Yamaha is in a conundrum for next year. They have three SuperBike quality riders for a traditionaly held two rider SuperBike squad. I guess they could go the route of Suzuki and field three riders, but I don't think they will. I believe Bostrom and DiSalvo have SuperBike clauses in their contracts already. I don't know if Hacking is signed for next year or not, but he has given Yamaha the SuperSport tile for this year and may give them the SuperStock title as well. He is definitely deserving of the job.

Broken primary drive chain took out Jeremy, so now we know how long they last! Actually Jeremy still is excited, as this is a very interesting and challenging program.

"What that "naysayer" JScott said."

Hey if "naysayer" = "realist", then I'll take it.

I agree that Gobert can be hit or miss, but Hayes was consistently in the top 8 (he even podiumed once) on a Attack Kawasaki. Kawasaki did not have a factory bike in the series last year so there was no factory development to build on. He's a hell of a rider and is definetly SuperBike caliber.

"Broken primary drive chain took out Jeremy, so now we know how long they last!"

Weren't primary chains an early source of trouble with the XBRR's development? Do you mean final drive chain?

"Actually Jeremy still is excited, as this is a very interesting and challenging program."

I bet Jeremy makes the best lemonade!

Is Jeremy through for the year or will he be making the final MidOhio date?

Back on the Yamaha topic...

I bet Josh Herrin will be in FX next year, who is teammate will be is the unknown. Maybe Hacking wouldn't mind a shot at the mini-SuperBikes, but I bet his heart would be in SuperBike.
